Been really into a band called Plini lately. Their new record is called "Handmade Cities" and it's phenomenal. If you like instrumental music and fusion (in this case, a mixture of rock, metal, jazz, electronic). Their music is layered, complex, dynamic, rhythmic, melodic, and really beautiful - I feel like their sound has an excellent balance between evoking emotions as well as being very cerebral, especially if you're a musician and enjoy analyzing the complexity and nuances of compositions. The drumming is also outstanding.

Here's another good one:

wow these guys are great musicians, kind of have a Planet X prog vibe going on, thanks for posting PhoenixToEmber!

Yup, a similar style as Planet X for sure. I've been a fan of Planet X since high school, particularly their drummer, Virgil Donati, who I think is one of the greatest drummers in history. The song you shared is an excellent example of why I feel that way, especially the part from 4:26 to 5:34. "Quantum" is such an outstanding record - highly recommended. Glad to know other forum members are familiar with them, too. :)

Beautiful voice, beautiful song. John Denver performing Annie's Song in Australia, 1994.

Lyrics:

You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again

Come let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again

That's sound good Tim.

I have to agree that Virgil is one of the best drummers for sure, and he's an Aussie :)

another one of my favourite drummers is Danny Carey

Same here. Danny Carey and Tool are legendary. What I find so interesting about him is that he studied Indian tabla hand-drumming under a master and then took those complex traditional Indian rhythms and patterns and began to apply them to the drumset, which is a major factor in his unique style.

Yeah and he has a very unique setup too! It will be interesting to see if Tool ever release another album, I hope so!

Here's an aussie band with an exceptional drummer too
