What are you listening to?

"Thrown like a star in my vast sleep, I opened my eyes to take a peek, To find that I was by the sea, Gazing with tranquility"
"Twas then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man, Came singing songs of love, Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man, Came singing songs of love"
"Histories of ages past, Unenlightened shadows cast, Down through all eternity, The crying of humanity"
"Tis then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man, Comes singing songs of love, Then when the Hurdy Gurdy Man, Comes singing songs of love"
"Here comes the Roly Poly Man, He's singing songs of love"

Came across with these videos where several musicians from all around the world play one particular song, there are several songs which are quite awesome, plus the whole idea of uniting musicians from around the globe, IMO, is great!

You might enjoy this if you haven't already seen it: 1000 musicians play a song at once. They've done it with a bunch of different covers, it's quite impressive.

JJ Cale has got me through some tough times, this song in particular.

Carry On
If life's little downs they keep coming around
Carry on, carry on
With darkness all about, you want to scream and shout
Carry on, carry on
Don't cry baby, look at where you've been
Everybody knows you just need a friend
Please, please, please, if you're down on your knees
Carry on, carry on
Your head is full of doubt, you can't figure it out
Carry on, carry on

Between the time it takes to make all those mistakes
Carry on, carry on
It don't matter what you say or do
It just seems to work out if you want it to
Let out all the slack, take it off your back
Carry on, carry on
Let me bend your ear, never shed a tear
Carry on, carry on
Carry on, carry on

I wish i could say the same of myself, that i'm in perfect harmony.
That i do not use the sword of my tongue to lash out at the enemy.
That i do not fear the light.
That i do not stray from Love as my guide.
That i'm at peace inside.
And all the pieces are fine - they dance and sing in unity.
A dum dum dum dee daa da deee.

I wish I could fly through the sky and the moon above me.
I wish I could talk to the Gods and the birds above me.
It's not fun to be so blind.
To be so blind.

I wish i could stay in the present day not lapsing into vicious sleep.
Cause it gives my bones a brand shiny new home - one that does not confine me.
And i do not fear the Light.
And i do not stray from Love as my guide.
And i'm at peace inside.
And all the pieces are fine. They dance and sing in unity.
A dum dum dum dee daaa da deeeee.

I wish I could fly ,,,,,,

Slo fuzz in the morning,
where i can tempt you to be my air...
But it's not enough to be lovely when i feel other things i can not share.
That i can't.

Zager & Evans "In The Year 2525"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhNM2K8cmU8
There are a few videos set to the music: fx
This one shows scenes from the movie by Fritz Lang; Metropolis
Another video set to the music and lyrics, but sung by an Australian singer, Jane Rossi (from what I understand and produced in Germany in 1983): https://www.youtube.com/embed/3Xb2aYmzVo8 It is a sensual expression of the content, but some crucial points come across like the ratio between truth and lies and the possibility of destruction by comets.
The music in the above video itself is maybe taken from this video version (also Jane Rossi) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Uxh6UnkMOs where the video art is abstract, more settled.

The first two videos offer interpretations of the lyrics which tried to investigate possible futures when it was written in 1969.

Zager And Evans – In The Year 2525 Lyrics
In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, and say
Is in the pill you took today
[...]
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head then
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

Recently found this song. Sums up human (d)evolution pretty much - when considering the State of Things at present moment, bolded what moved me most:

In the year 2525, if man is still alive
If woman can survive, they may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you
In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

In the year 7510
If God's a coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
Guess it's time for the judgment day
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down, and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday
