Never Say Never - The Fray

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLdcTUvB2hc

There's some things we don't talk about
Rather do without
And just hold the smile
Falling in and out of love
Ashamed and proud of
Together all the while

You can never say never
Why we dont know when
Time and time again
Younger now than we were before

Don't let me go
Don't let me go
Don't let me go
[x2]

Picture you're the queen of everything
As far as the eye can see
Under your command
I will be your guardian
When all is crumbling
Steady your hand

You can never say never
Why we dont know when
Time, time and time again
Younger now then we were before

Don't let me go
Don't let me go
Don't let me go
[x2]

We're pulling apart and coming together again and again
We're growing apart but we pull it together, pull it together, together again

Don't let me go
Don't let me go
Don't let me go
[x4]

This is a song I've listened to on and off for the last 25 years or so...

It always seems to grab me for some reason.

Re-listening to the lyrics with what I know now, it almost seems like it's about bouncing back and forth between 3rd density and friends in 5th density.

One thing is for sure, I have always felt this song was about the pain of separation.

(Give it a listen, it's not metal)

Junior's Eyes - Black Sabbath

Junior's eyes looked up to the skies in tears
He prayed that his maker, the giver and taker, would hear
Junior sighed, as his hands reached out to the sky
Junior cried, the day that his best friend died
Yeah!

They're coming home again tomorrow
I'm sorry it won't be for long
With all the pain I've watched you live within
I'll try my hardest not to cry
When it is time to say goodbye

Junior's eyes, they couldn't disguise the pain
His father was leaving, and Junior's grieving again
Innocent eyes watched the man who had gave everything
Junior's sorrow, who knew what tomorrow would bring?
Yeah!

They're coming home again tomorrow
I'm sorry it won't be for long
With all the pain I've watched you live within
I'll try my hardest not to cry
When it is time to say goodbye

Junior's eyes looked into the skies once more
Now he knew well, this life was hell for sure
He desperately tried, his fingertips stretched to the stars, yeah
Reaching for reason, along with the time and the stars
Yeah!

They're coming home again tomorrow
I'm sorry it won't be for long
With all the pain I've watched you live within
I'll try my hardest not to cry
When it is time to say goodbye

Q: (L) Now, frivolous question number one: Do you guys like Pink Floyd?
A: "Like" is a bit off base.
Q: (L) What would be more 'on base?'
A: Absorb.
Q: (L) Do you absorb Pink Floyd?
A: We are Pink Floyd, and all other facets of your higher consciousness.
Q: (L) Well, cool!.......

INDEED! how cool is that?!

Don't know how that all ties together with the vid and lyrics here... just know that i'm a bit "absorbed" with Floyd as well and why i think i hear the birds talkin below. enjoy

We went out on the road today
And the sky was full of tears
And each small town looked so blue
And they seemed to ache for better years
Then my cell phone started ringin' wild
Like a fire alarm from hell
And when i picked it up a sad voice said,
"It's time to ring that golden bell"

And i was talkin' to the Buddha
And i made the Buddha cry
Yeah i was talkin' to the Buddha
And i realized that i, i've been causin' all this rain

He said meet me at joe's diner
Where route 6 meets 88
Well i arrived at the appointed time
But Buddha said, "you're runnin' late"
We both ordered an espresso
From the owner's new machine
And as the jukebox played Nirvana
He said, " ignorance is mean"

And i was talkin' to the Buddha
And i made the Buddha cry
Yeah i was talkin' to the Buddha
And i realized that i, i've been causin' all this rain
I've been causin' all this rain
Somebody help me stop the rain

Buddha said the twelve gates wait for you
And creation's in travail
Waiting for us all to see the light
And restore what we have failed
The waitress said, "hey you want a refill?"
But Buddha said, "there is no time"
"There's three seconds left to zero"
Then that white light stole my mind

And i was talkin' to the Buddha
And i made the Buddha cry
I was talkin' to the Buddha
And i realized that i, i've been causin' all this rain
I've been causin' all this rain
Somebody help me stop the rain
Somebody help me stop the rain
Help me stop the rain...

We've been talkin' to the Buddha

This song never fails to conjure at least a few tears, sometimes a lot.

For me, too.

Thank you so much for posting this song, RyanX. It’s heart breaking, beautiful and filled with sadness and longing. I like it much more than the original Tears for Fears version, and it’s perfect too at the end of Donnie Darko. The video is a perfect foil to the sadly wistful longing in Gary Jules’ version. Like seeing my childhood from my adult viewpoint, and wishing that I could remember it, and that I had not been left with so many layers of psychological pain.

I like this version a lot too, but there is still a soft spot in my heart for the original on The Hurting -- I remember being about fourteen, and writing the lyrics of this song into the front of my Social Studies notebook because I was touched by it even then. I also liked the way that it segued into Pale Shelter, the song that comes after it on the original album that I thought was a good song too.

My daughter (age 12) just discovered that she really likes Genesis, so we went out tonight and bought a couple other CDs in that genre that I liked when I was her age. She has heard the Gary Jules version of Mad World on TV shows (it gets used a lot on teen angst TV), so since she was familiar with it already we got a Tears for Fears 'Best of' album. I was inspired partly by this thread, so thanks from me too, Ryan X!

Great to start Wednesday morning ;D

Hot on the heels of Nina Simone's like-minded project, this 14-track disk takes Billie Holiday's masterful and mourning vocals of 1935 to 1958 to the 21st-century digital dance floor, courtesy of some resourceful remixers and DJs from Swingsett & Takuya and Nickodemus & Zeb to Organica and Poppyseed. You have to give these aural alchemists credit for their daring, but some tracks work better than others. The best include "Spreadin’ Rhythm Around," featuring Digable Planet's Ladybug Mecca, the echoplexed embers of GXR's "Long Gone Blues," DJ Logic's string-centric "Glad to be Unhappy," and Daniel Y's infectious, Soul to Soul/Loose Ends grooved "Billie's Blues." With augmentation provided by live guitarists, keyboardists, and percussionists, these scientists of sound don't desecrate the gardenia-wearing goddess's eternal artistry; rather, they globally reposition it for this era's electronica-fueled iPod generation, from the downbeat to the download. --Eugene Holley, Jr

Here Comes The Rain Again _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PscogedAWTI

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do
Walk with me
Like lovers do
Talk to me
Like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Raining in my head like a tragedy
Tearing me apart like a new emotion
Oooooh
I want to breathe in the open wind
I want to kiss like lovers do
I want to dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion
(here it comes again, here it comes again)
I want to walk in the open wind
I want to talk like lovers do
I want dive into your ocean
Is it raining with you

I'm gonna lock my heart
And throw away the key
I'm wise to all those tricks you played on me
I'm gonna turn my back on love
Gonna snob the moon above
Seal all my windows up with tin
So the love bug can't get in
Park my romance right alone the curb
Hang a sign upon my heart
"please don't disturb"
And if i never fall in love again
That's soon enough for me
I'm gonna lock my heart
And throw the key

And if I never fall in love again
That's soon enough for me
I!m gonna lock my heart
And throw away the key

I'll never fall in love again
I'm gonna lock my heart
And throw away the key

Actually I'm touched by this simple little song with some celtic flavour and ballad rythm :

Mark Knopfler : Piper To The End

When I leave this world behind me
To another I will go
If there are no pipes in heaven
I’ll be going down below

If friends in time be severed
Someday we will meet again
I’ll return to leave you never
Be a piper to the end

This has been a day to die fo
Now the day has almost gone
Up above a choir of seabirds
Turns to face the setting sun

Now the evening dawn is calling
And all the hills are burning red
And before the night comes falling
Clouds are lined with golden thread

We watched the fires together
Shared our quarters for a while
Walked the dusty roads together
Came so many miles

This has been a day to die on
Now the day is almost done
Here the pipes will lay beside me
Silent will the battle drum

If friends in time be severed
Someday here we will meet again
I return to leave you never
Be a piper to the end

It comes in the right time for a pipe smoker and breather XD

I really enjoy listening to this one recently

Oceana - Cry Cry

An ode to Life as Religion vs (fake) religion as life.

"Hard Road"

_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16UfktNhrvY&feature=related

Old men crying, young men dying
World still turns as Father Time looks on
On and on
Children playing, dreamers praying
Laughter turns to tear as love has gone
Has it gone?

Oh, it's a hard road
Oh, it's a hard road

Whirlwind churning, lovers learning
On this path of life we can't back down
Is it wrong?
Widows weeping, babies sleeping
Life becomes the singer and the song
Sing along

Oh, it's a hard road
Carry your own load

Why make the hard road?
Why can't we be friends?
No need to hurry
We'll meet in the end

Why make the hard road?
Why can't we be friends?
No need to worry
Let's sing it again

Brothers sharing, Mothers caring
Nighttime falling victim to the dawn
Shadows small
Days are crawling, time is calling
To the Earth another life is gone
Love line drawn

Oh, it's a hard road
Carry your own load
Oh, it's a hard road
Oh, it's a hard road...

Forget all your sorrow, don't live in the past
And look to the future, `cause life goes too fast, you know
Forget all your sorrow, don't live in the past
And look to the future, `cause life goes too fast, you know
Forget all your sorrow, don't live in the past
And look to the future, `cause life goes too fast, you know...

I have Battlestar Galactica on the brain lately for whatever reason, and I think the first track off of the season 3 album is hauntingly beautiful, and quite appropriate for any group of STO candidates who long to return to a paradise lost. The song is in Armenian (which I don't understand a word of, though I think that is pretty cool in its own right), but here is the English translation:

A Distant Sadness

A distant and familiar sadness calls to us
As if carried on the wind, like burning sand
Brothers and sisters, away, you endure
Stranded on our own land
A memory etched into soul and skin
Leaves a scar that never heals
Our family is strong, but scattered
Across the stars and fields
We will not abandon you
We will not forget you
We will return for you

Turin Brakes - They Can't Buy The Sunshine

All and all it's been a blast
But fame and fortune never lasts
So, we'll take refuge in the sound
They burned our churches to the ground

But they can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
But they can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun

We may have sold our very souls
The ghosts inside the radio
They warned us once and they told us twice
This life's never very nice

They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
They can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun

The credit card skyline rises high
Crushing the sky and multiplies
They bind up souls to fill their holes
We know the one thing they don't know

But they can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sunshine
They can't buy the sun
But they can't stop the sunshine
They can't stop the sunshine
They can't stop the sunshine on the sun, the sun, the sun
Shine on the sun, the sun, the sun

Chances

This is the time to die
I'm not someone on whom to rely
Chances come and chances go
This is letting go

I feel the tightening of the dawn
The creation of something I've sung
No one goes back 'cause they're all there
Are you everywhere

Becoming who you think you are
In order to do your part
In the multi-dimensional scheme
You'll know what I mean

This is the time to die
I'm not someone on whom to rely
Chances come and chances go
This is letting you know

I'm almost where I'll never be
This cutting off of fate like a string
A line that falls to the floor
And I'm not me anymore
