What are you listening to?

Thank you all for sharing....

.... some great songs all through this thread. Some I have not heard in a long time, and some that are completely new and inspiring.

I am right now loving "Dig" by Incubus.

This song never fails to conjure at least a few tears, sometimes a lot.

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world ... mad world
Enlarging your world
Mad world

Gel yanima gel- a traditional Turkish song

I like this version, it's almost spiritual. (Excepting of course, I know what the lyrics are- and they sure ain't spiritual!)

and this one, it's very raw! I can't help but move to this!

It certainly isn't spiritual. You know I have never heard of this song, thank you for posting it. If you like the songs that sound spiritual but aren't I recommend this song, both in Turkish and Kurdish:

_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8oXzX81NqY

The group sings their songs in Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian and other languages who were a part of Anatolia. The group is called "Fraternal Folk Songs".

If you find the singer, Kubat's style spiritual, I suggest a song among those called Thessaloniki Songs, belongs to that region. It carries Greek sounds in it and Kubat sings it perfectly.

I wasn't going to translate it, but after listening the song, I think I should:

Hit to the drums below the river, mercy, mercy
Dig my grave, my friends, below the belly
Pour my waters after the cauldron is filled, mercy[water to wash those who passed away]

Have mercy Death, ruthless Death, just stop for three days
Take this love from me and give it to my love

In Thessaloniki, selam is singed, mercy[selam: a form of religious song]
The voice of the selam, my friends moves our souls
Those who are brides get henna, mercy[henna: kına in Turkish, brides color their hands with it before the wedding night]

Have mercy Death, ruthless Death, just stop for three days
Take this love from me and give it to my love

Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, you may be destroyed, mercy
Your stones, your soil and trees may be taken by floods
You may be without your love, just like me, mercy

Have mercy Death, ruthless Death, just stop for three days
Take this love from me and give it to my love

The 7th song that was on the playlist when I learned of Victoria's (Pepperfritz's) passing (It was 15 - 20 minutes before I was able to see the playlist of the station I was wanting to listen to when I read that she had passed). Thus, the songs were as follows 5th = Say Hey (I love you) - Michael Franti, 6th = She is Love - Parachute, 7th = Wonderful - Gary Go, and 8th= If Today was Your Last Day - Nickel Back

Wonderful - Gary Go

Uhhh uuuhh

The person that you were has died
You've lost the sparkle in your eyes
You fell for life into its traps
Now you wanna bridge the gaps
Now you wanna bridge the gaps
Now you want that person back
Uhhh uuuhh

And all your ammunition's gone
Run out of fuel to carry on
You don't know what you wanna do
You've got no pull to pull you through

Say "I am"
Say "I am"
Say "I am wonderful"

Say "I am"
Say "I am"
Say "I am wonderful"

If what you've lost cannot be found
And the weight of the world weighs you down
No longer with the will to fly
You stop to let it pass you by
Don't stop to let it pass you by
You gotta look yourself in the eye

Say "I am"
Say "I am"
Say "I am wonderful"
Oh you are

Say "I am"
Say "I am"
Say "I am wonderful"

Cause we are all miracles
wrapped up in chemicals
We are incredible
Don't take it for granted, no
We are all miracles

Boston- a man i'll never be

If I said whats on my mind
Youd turn and walk away
Disappearing way back in your dreams
Its so hard to be unkind
So easy just to say
That everything is just the way it seems

You look up at me
And somewhere in your mind you see
A man Ill never be

If only I could find a way
Id feel like Im the man you believe I am
And it gets harder every day for me
To hide behind this dream you see
A man Ill never be

I cant get any stronger
I cant climb any higher
Youll never know just how hard Ive tried
Cry a little longer
And hold a little tighter
Emotions cant be satisfied

You look up at me
And somewhere in your mind you see
A man Ill never be

If only I could find a way
Id feel like Im the man you believe I am
And it gets harder every day for me
To hide behind this dream you see
A man Ill never be

Enigma

WHY! …

I was childish and unfair to you, my only friend
I regret, but now it's too late
I can't show you anymore, the things I've learned from you
Cause life just took you away
I'm asking why
I'm asking why
Nobody gives an answer
I'm just asking why
But someday, we'll meet again
And I'll ask you…
I'll ask you why, why it has to be like this
I'm asking you why, please give me an answer

Many years of stupid fights til we accept to see
How it was and would always be
Why it has to be like this, why we don't realize
Why we're too blind to see the one who's always on our side
I'm asking why
I'm asking why
Nobody gives an answer
I'm just asking why
Just tell me why, why it has to be like this
That the good ones disappear
I'm asking you why
I'm asking why
I'm asking why
Nobody gives an answer
I'm just asking why
I'm asking why

THE ROUNDABOUT

Life is a wheel of changes, but changes are life
And someday we will have to say goodbye, but our spirit will survive
Love is phasing, love is moving, to the rhythm of your sight
In the darkness, I get closer to the crossing point of light
Reason is lasting, passion is living, and dying is teaching us how to live.

The thing I liked most about Michael Cretu's music is that Cretu (the man who is Enigma) is a classically trained, yet self-made musician (producer, composer, and arranger). According to a biographical account: deserting his goal of classical music, he claimed, "I started writing hits the day I sold my piano."

Cretu is also known for his mixture of sixth-century Gregorian chants, bewitching French whispers--provided by Cretu's wife, Sandra --and hypnotic, ethereal music set to intoxicating dance rhythms.

Note: I love music, but I don't normally listen to music like this without an understanding of the lyrics first. I think most of us know that when the brain is in Alpha and the rhythm is hypnotic, the critical faculty of the conscious mind is bypassed and you are open to programming. No need to create more automatic thought loops that we'll have to do Work on later. :)

Quiet riot: Sign Of The Times

Well I have street sense radar
Ooh, is supposed be news
You better lock up your daughters
You never know when we're due

Good news, bad news
It's all the same
Addicts on main streets
They give us the blame

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
We're a sign of the times
Having fun ain't no crime
We're a sign of the times
Having fun all the time, yeah

Great impersonators
We broke all the rules
We laugh with our masks on
The joke is on you

You're getting furry
It does you no good
It's the same old story
It's a human zoo

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
We're a sign of the times
Having fun ain't no crime
We're a sign of the times
Having fun all the time, yeah

My, my, my, my, yeah

Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!

Cha!
Cha!

I see a sign up ahead
Got it's lights flashing red
I can see you're the same
These are the words that I read

Long live rock and roll (Roll!)
Long live rock and roll (Roll!)
Long live rock and roll
It's gonna save your soul

Good news, bad news
It's all the same
Addicts on main streets
Please, please give us a break

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
We're a sign of the times
Having fun ain't no crime
We're a sign of the times
Having fun all the time

Hey!
We're just a sign of the times
We're just a sign of the times
We're just a sign of the times, yeah
We're a sign of the times
Having fun all the time
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

I'm not quite sure what you are getting at with posting this song, except the familiar "Signs of the time" motif, so I opened a topic to discuss it here

For me, too.

Thank you so much for posting this song, RyanX. It’s heart breaking, beautiful and filled with sadness and longing. I like it much more than the original Tears for Fears version, and it’s perfect too at the end of Donnie Darko. The video is a perfect foil to the sadly wistful longing in Gary Jules’ version. Like seeing my childhood from my adult viewpoint, and wishing that I could remember it, and that I had not been left with so many layers of psychological pain.
