(Willie Nelson)
Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson

Sometimes it's heaven and sometimes it's hell
Sometimes I don't even know
Sometimes I take it as far as I can
Sometimes I don't even go.

My front tracks're headin' for a cold water
Well, my back tracks're covered with snow
Sometimes it's heaven sometimes it's hell
Sometimes I don't even know.

--- Instrumental ---

Heaven ain't walkin' on a street paved with gold
Hell ain't a mountain of fire
Heaven is layin' in my sweet baby's arms
Hell is when baby ain't there.

My front tracks're headin' for a cold water
Well, my back tracks're covered with snow
Sometimes it's heaven sometimes it's hell
Sometimes I don't even know.

(Sometimes it's heaven sometimes it's hell)
(Sometimes I don't even know.)...

Omnem crede diem tibi diluxisse supremum.
Omnem crede diem tibi diluxisse supremum.

Peace of the Gods

Father in Heaven, God bless us...
Father in Heaven, God bless me... [4]

Believe that each day which breaks is your last. [5]
Believe that each day which breaks is your last.

[1] The object of Roman religion was to secure the cooperation, benevolence, and "peace" of the gods, hence "pax deorum".

[2] [3] This Latin may be divided to obtain "domine o venite o sacramentum (disces m)eo deo", which is difficult to translate and is questionable grammar. It may be intended to mean both "lord o come o sacrament by/from that god" and "lord o come o sacrament (you) learn of/from my god". The lyric doesn't seem to be duplicable in English.
The word "sacramentum" is a Latin word used to describe an oath. Later, it came to refer to a formal Christian rite, especially one considered to have been instituted by Jesus as a means of grace (often communion).

[4] This Irish Gaelic is the same as the first two lines of "Athair ar Neamh".

[5] This Latin is an exact quote from Horace's Epistles, Book I, Epistle IV, line 13. The whole sentence of which this is part (lines 12-14) reads:

Inter spem curamque, timores inter et iras
omnen crede diem tibi diluxisse supremem:
grata superveniet quae non sperabitur hora.

This means:

Amid the hope and worry, the fear and anger
believe that each day which breaks is your last:
the unhoped for hour will be a welcome surprise.

Cursum Perficio

Cursum perficio.
Verbum sapienti: [1]
quo plus habent,
eo plus cupiunt.
Post nubila, Phoebus [2] [3]
Iternum [4]

I finish the course.
A word to the wise:
the more [people] have,
the more they want.
After the clouds, Phoebus

[1] To be precise, "sapienti" is the dative singular of the adjective "sapiens" (knowing or wise). Therefore, without a noun, "sapienti" can only refer to a wise man or woman, while "to the wise" refers to more than one, which the Latin does not state.

[2] Phoebus: the Roman god of sunlight, prophecy, music, and poetry (same as the Greek god Apollo) [Lat. < Gk. Phoibos < phoibos, radiant]. When not capitalized, the sun.

[3] This is also a modern Latin proverb meaning "after clouds (comes) the sun" or "after rain comes the sunshine".

[4] In the Watermark notes, this word is spelled "iternum", which is either a nonexistent word or a poetic form. In all probability, it is either a misspelling of "eternum" (eternal), a misspelling of "iterum" (again and again), or a poetic form meaning "journey". Here are the various possibilities played out:

- "Eternum" is rather clearly enunciated, but it is very rare that an adjective be used as an adverb. In addition, "E" is not a strictly accurate beginning of "Eternum" because it leaves out the preceding "A", which creates a diphthong. It should be "Æternum".
- Transcribing "iternum" instead of "iterum" is a common error to make, and has occured elsewhere (such as the Codex Vaticanus manuscript of Tacitus's Agricola), involving the lengthening of the tail of "r" to "n" and duplicating it. "Iterum" also fits the tone as well as the tense, that of one tormented by the demands of others again and again.
- Iternum means "journey". It is related to "iter" (to journey), and the form seems to be in the genitive plural, which actually should be "itinerum", not "iternum" as written. This should be translated as "journey" or perhaps "of the journeys" since the notes state that this song was inspired by an inscription found in the portico of Marilyn Monroe's last home, "My journey ends here".

>REM: "So fast so numb"

>These guys might have a clue.
>Reminds me of G's mechanical man - awesome:

You're movin' through rough waters motel boy,
And swimming in your sleep
How could I be so blind, mis-sighted,
Not to see there's something wounded deep?

Anyone could scratch your surface now,
It's all amphetamine
You're blasting yourself into the present
Like some vast indignity, say that,

You say that you hate it,
You want to recreate it
I've been around, I've been your lover
I let it go at Kill Devil Hill,
You're coming onto something so fast, so numb
That you can't even feel

You're drinking the raw Drano baby,
You do-si-do, saddo
You're you in cartilage, shark-eyed, shock horror, all present tense,
And boy your blood is running cold
Listen, this is now, this is here, this is me,
This is what I wanted you to see
That was then, was that, that is gone, this is past,
You cast yourself cast, passed by, thrown down fast, you say

You say that you hate it
You want to recreate it
I've played this round, I've played your lover
I've played it out to the hilt
You're comin' on with something so fast, so numb

That you can't even feel
You love it, you hate it
You want to recreate it
Now, this is here, this is me,
This is what I wanted you to see
That was then, was that, that is gone
That is what I wanted you to feel

You love it, you hate it
You spit it out, the bitter pill
I've been around, I've been your lover
I let it go at Kill Devil Hill
You're coming onto something so fast, so numb
That you can't even feel

I've played this round, I've played your lover
I've played it out to the hilt
You're comin' on with something so fast, so numb
That you can't even feel

You played around, you played me lover,
I let it go at Kill Devil Hill
You're moving so hard, so fast, so numb
That you can't even feel

I'm sick and tired of hearing things from
Uptight short sided narrow minded hypocritics
all i want is the truth, just give me some truth

i've had enough of reading things
by neurotic psychotic pigheaded politicians
all i want is the truth, just give me some truth

No short heared yellow bellied
son of tricky dicky's
gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
with just a pocket full of hopes
its money for dope, money for rope

i'm sick to death of seing things from
tight lipped condescending mamas little chauvinist
all i want is the truth, just give me some truth

i've had enough of watching scenes from
Schizophrenic egocentric paranoid prima donnas
all i want is the truth just give me some truth.....

Yeah, they've got a lovely sound. I've been listening to their newest album, Contra. Here's one from it that they did on Letterman:

DREAM THEATER
When Dream and Day Unite (1989)

1 - A FORTUNE IN LIES
[music by Dream Theater, lyrics by Petrucci]

"For the first time in a long time
...everything was right in my
world... and then I woke up."

I can remember when,
In the unity of our five-day sessions
Not even once did we hear the siren
song
What kind of imagination
Asleep in some lyrical coma
Who's vain futile memory
Could have been so wrong?

You can make a fortune in lies
You can keep a giant alive
You can ride the red
Until everybody smiles

A trifling euphoria
was such an untimely religion
maybe your life can explain
the reason for my indecision
Here is a poor man
the heart of this monster creation
He said we both will be heroes
and I was led into temptation

You can make a fortune in lies
You can keep a giant alive
You can ride the red
Until everybody smiles

Can you show me your gold
and your silver?
A hero in frozen water

Now you've made a fortune in lies
and you kept a giant alive
You rode the red
You rode the red
