What are you listening to?

Song To The Siren
By This Mortal Coil

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me, sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am, here I am
Waiting to hold you
Did I dream, you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was full sail?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sing
Touch me not, touch me not
Come back tomorrow
Oh, my heart
Oh, my heart shies from the sorrow
Well I'm as puzzled as the newborn child
I'm as riddled as the tide
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing
Swim to me, swim to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am, here I am
Waiting to hold you

This haunting song about a scary surrender to a love that may not be returned was written by Tim Buckley and his writing partner Larry Beckett in 1967. ... The song's reference to the sirens tempting sailors at sea stems from the ancient Greek myth of sea nymphs luring sailors on to rocks by their singing.

Yeah i know what is it about. Nevertheless it went straight to my emotional center - I actually swelled with tears when listening.

I had a friend of mine who passed away today who was originally from Ireland but emigrated to Canada many years ago.
He was also a brilliant fiddle player of traditional Irish folk/celtic music. I hear this song and think of him.

Niamh McElduff - "Song for Ireland"

Walking all the day
near tall towers where falcons build their nests
Silver wings they fly,
They know the call for freedom in their breasts,
Saw Black Head against the sky
Where twisted rocks they run down to the sea
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sun sets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And I sang a song for Ireland

Talking all the day,
With true friends who try to make you stay,
Telling jokes and news,
Singing songs to while the time away,
Watched the galway salmon run,
Like silver dancing, darting in the sun,
living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And I sang a song for Ireland

Drinking all the day,
In old pubs where fiddlers love to play,
Saw one touch the bow,
He played a reel that seemed so grand and gay,
I stood on dingle beach and cast,
In wild foam for Atlantic bass,
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic Sea,
And sang a song for Ireland

Dreaming in the night,
I saw a land where no-one had to fight,
Waking in your dawn,
I saw you crying in the morning light,
sleeping where the falcons fly,
They twist and turn all in your air-blue sky,
Living on your western shore,
Saw summer sunsets, I asked for more,
I stood by your Atlantic sea,
And I sang a song for Ireland

This was the first piece of classical music I discovered myself as a teenager. I was always a rebel, never liked anything I was forced into, so I disliked all the classical pieces I learned about in school. Then I found Ravel. It changed my conception of classical music. It helped me get through those lonely teenage years. I still find it magical. Daphnis et Chloe. Pure bliss.

I heard this song on the radio driving a few weeks ago and repeated a line of the lyrics in my head so I could search it later. I knew it was a good song. I just had an inkling to listen to it again today. It's quite calming and motivating I think. But with some sort of nostalgia feeling, and overall that things will be ok. I also like the filter aesthetic and warm/cool colors of the video.

Courtney Barnett - Write A List Of Things To Look Forward To:

I picked up my guitar and practiced a bit of the song, which is here:

If anyone knows a similar not too fast not too slow, hopeful and uplifting song, I'm all ears.

Also current mood is Yellowcard's Ocean Avenue. The chorus makes me think of a better place, which I know exists:

And lastly, a little sadder but this came to mind. Mostly the guitar picking. Goo Goo Dolls - Name:

This is a song that I love and since I first listened it always felt good. I recently listened to it again and decided to search for the meaning and to my surprise it is a wonderful message! 🧡

Tatsuro Yamashita - Ride on Time

I’m running past the blue horizon now
Keenly feeling the flow of time on me
Ah, the world gets going towards something thrilling
The coming of a distant dream I’d forgotten all about

Ride On Time Take my wandering thoughts as they are
And wrap them gently around yourself, oh
Ride On Time Light my heart on fire
Flood me with joy, Ride On Time

C’mon, bright future of mine, start turning
All these hollow days melt away into love
Ah, what a morning! I’m gonna go deliver my fired up heart to you
Wherever you may be right now, with zero hesitation

Ride On Time Time, take off running!
Love, start shining! So bright you make me dizzy, oh
Ride On Time I’ll light my heart on fire
And send it to your soaring soul, Ride On Time

I’m gonna go deliver my fired up heart to you right now, oh

Ride On Time Time, take off running!
Love, start shining! So bright that it makes me dizzy, oh
Ride On Time I’ll light my heart on fire
And send it to your soaring soul, Ride On Time, oh

Ride On Time Take my wandering thoughts as they are
And wrap them gently around yourself, oh
Ride On Time Light my heart on fire

Flood me with joy, Ride On Time, oh

"Ah the world gets going towards something thrilling..." this phrase for some reason made me think of The Wave. Also the entire song says "ride" a lot :)
