What are you listening to?

Reading the latest headline news on SOTT.net this morning, I had this song playing in the background. Very poignant, imo.
The "smell of death" surrounds everything it seems.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - "That Smell"

Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you're in my way
There's too much coke and too much smoke
Look what's going on inside you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Angel of darkness is upon you
Stuck a needle in your arm

So take another toke, have a blow for your nose
One more drink fool, will drown you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Now they call you Prince Charming
Can't speak a word when you're full of 'ludes
Say you'll be all right come tomorrow
But tomorrow might not be here for you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Hey, you're a fool you
Stick them needles in your arm
I know I been there before

One little problem that confronts you
Got a monkey on your back
Just one more fix, Lord might do the trick
One hell of a price for you to get your kicks
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Politics, ugh

Jim Clapper, former director of national intelligence, now CNN pundit: “Yes, I stand by the statement made AT THE TIME, and would call attention to its 5th paragraph. I think sounding such a cautionary note AT THE TIME was appropriate.”

Russ Travers, former National Counterterrorism Center acting director: “The letter explicitly stated that we didn’t know if the emails were genuine, but that we were concerned about Russian disinformation efforts. I spent 25 years as a Soviet/Russian analyst. Given the context of what the Russians were doing at the time (and continue to do — Ukraine being just the latest example), I considered the cautionary warning to be prudent.”

Fantastic lyrics:

i woken a dream
I forgot I was the dreamer
I got lost by a stream
It pulled me in deeper and deeper
I forgot this place is magic
I got lost in my bad habits
I've forgotten who we are
I've forgotten who we are
We've been blinded by a veil
Our slumber has gotten deeper
We turn heaven into hell
The grim reaper as our leader
We forgot this place is magic
Anything we want, we can have it
But we've taken it too far
We got lost within our scars
We forgot this place is magic
Anyone we want, we can have it
We forgotten who we are
But it's written in the stars
It is written in the stars

Can't You See

("defiantly a song about loneness")

Originally a Marshal Tucker Band song, worth catching.

Here is the same song, picked up and changed somewhat by Matt Minglewood (Cape Bretton Island). The studio version can be seen here, however added one live version.

Matt played this from coast to coast in the 70's, and first heard it played live by Matt back then with his band in a Cowboy bar in Calgary, Alberta.

Matt is 75-years old and still going.

Live in Liverpool:

Base Lyrics:
Gonna take a freight train, down at the station Lord
I don't care where it goes
Gonna climb a mountain, the highest mountain, Lord
I might jump right off, ain't nobody going to know

CHORUS
Can't you see
Can't you see
What that woman's
Been doing to me

I'm gonna find me a hole in the wall
I might crawl inside and die
Because that lady, mean old woman Lord
Never had the guts to say good-bye

REPEAT CHORUS TWICE

Do it to me

REPEAT CHORUS TWICE MORE

Can't you see
Oh such a crazy mama lady
She's gonna drive me crazy
Gonna take a freight train
Way down at the station Lord
I ain't never comin back
Gonna ride that eastbound
Take it all the way to Cape Breton Island
Where the train runs out of track
Yeah, where the train runs out of track

Last one.

Lost My Driving Wheel

This was written by Canadian folk singer David Wiffen. Tom Rush originally brought it to light. Here again is Matt Minglewood playing and singing:

A very different version of this song previously posted:

Ain't No Sunshine

A few years ago, I remember hearing Ain't No Sunshine in Notting Hill and I immediately fell in love with the soul in this song. Bill Withers is an absolute legendary artist. This was always one of those songs that I just sang around the house... doing homework, cleaning whetever, etc. but I never considered actually singing it. Then after I reaaally started liking to sing, my mom suggested I learn this one. The band is so unbelievable on this, I really hope you like our rendition :) xx canen

Have to say, she (and band) did a beautiful job of it:

P.s. she was 12 years old at the time.

The Prodigy are unique. Early ravers who fused punk rock with hard electronics. World's on Fire is their crowning moment, a pulsatingly heavy track. Taken from the craftily titled album, Invaders Must Die.
