I've just listened to an interview with Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant, and he chose this song as his first disco euphoric experience, which for him would have been 1973. I hadn't listened to this song in ages, and forgot how beautifully put together it is. The Temptations could make the ghetto seem cinematic, which became the hallmark of blaxploitation movies in the 1970s. Listening to this on headphones, in the dark, one can imagine yourself in a world of inner visions and hidden dangers.
Ah bugger .. it’s been blocked by pearl jam (their label more likely) from previewing on other sites .. you have to click the link and watch it on YouTube
It’s not so much “what are you listening to” but “what are you hearing while you are listening.” I’ve been hearing things in old music that I did not hear before. I’m finding words to live by. The best one for me is Crosby Stills & Nash “Judy Blue Eyes" This line, “do not let the past remind us of what we arenot now,” reminds me to stop dwelling on past stupidity and arrogance. The past is over; get over it. Or, in other words, “go thou and sin no more. In Laura’s words, “To heal the past, you change the present, and that takes care of the future.”
And the Eagles, ”Already Gone" The line “So often times it happens we live our lives in chains and we don’t even know we have the key.” Stop being stuck in 3rd density thinking. See objective reality left right front back up down.
John Lennon’s “Imagine" is loaded but this one stands out: “You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us and the world will be as one.”
This is just starters and I will add to it as I realize more. It would be interesting if anyone else has had similar experiences.
As I reviewed this a few days later, it came that there are multiple additional meanings, some not so pleasant to contemplate. But that is for another day.
Bruch was looking into his soul and wrenching out every piece of sonorous beauty when he wrote this. who couldn't be moved, it plays upon the sentimental but ultimately the soulful in us all, not to be moved by this is to lose a little of ones humanity.
