Pendulum 'Witchcraft'

Pendulum has a lot of good songs on that CD. I haven't listened to it in a while because of what was said about listening to music in the transcripts. They are quite popular and have a lot of electronic sounds in their songs.

I've been trying to listen to classical music, but I can't even force myself to like it, maybe like 10% of the songs I like. So I'm listening to international stuff and am currently hooked on Chinese music.

I was listening to a song called "Eternity" by Nanjing Dynasty Orchestra when I saw this thread, and I was like, "I'm in heaven" :P. There's no youtube video of it, but here's the site that I heard it on.

I think it's just a matter of finding pieces that resonates with you for the moment.
I listen to a lot of classical music on the radio and I don't enjoy all of the pieces either, I don't think that the whole of classical music is all good anyway, but sometimes there is one piece that demands all my attention.
For what it's worth maybe you'd enjoy more cinematic pieces but I don't know much about classical music or the names of such composers, only Stravinsky comes to mind.
Perhaps try some Samuel Barber, Arvo Pärt, Gorecki or Peteris Vasks. They are contemporary.

My two cents.

In the Polyvagal Theory, Porges has a chapter on Music Therapy and suggests that when we listen to melodies we start to look and feel good through triggering neural mechanisms. They engage and exercise the social engagement system, possibly promoting positive outcomes improving several factors related to quality of life.

Music in the band of human voice is often used melodically in compositions to 'voice' of the composer. Typically, these encompass middle C and the two octaves above middle C.

As a 'late 50's early 60's rocker', what vocal music is recommended to trigger this neural mechanism?

I don't know what happened with my previous post but I was going to say that I couldn't find any translation for miyori no mori. But I have the lyric, if there is some Japanese member in the forum who could translate if they have time or are interested that would be great.

Here it is:

Gates of Dawn, Secret Garden

_http://new.music.yahoo.com/secret-garden/tracks/gates-of-dawn--2017825

The wheels of life keep turning.
Spinning without control;
The wheels of the heart keep yearning.
For the sound of the singing soul.
And nights are full with weeping.
For sins of the past we’ve sown;
But, tomorrow is ours for the keeping,
Tomorrow the future’s shown.

Lift your eyes and see the glory.
Where the circle of life is drawn;
See the never-ending story,
Come with me to the Gates of Dawn.

And whose is the hand who raises
The sun from the heaving sea?
The power that ever amazes –
We look, but never will see?
Who scattered the seeds so life could be,
Who coloured the fields of corn?
Who formed the mould that made me – me,
Before the world was born?

Lift your eyes and see the glory.
Where the circle of life is drawn;
See the never-ending story,
Come with me to the Gates of Dawn.

Lift your eyes and see the glory.
Where the circle of life is drawn;
See the never-ending story,
Come with me to the Gates of Dawn.

Lift your eyes and see the glory.
Where the circle of life is drawn;
See the never-ending story,
Come with me to the Gates of Dawn

Boston-More Than A Feeling

I woke up this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away

It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (More than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walking away

So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on

As clear as the sun in the summer sky

It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (More than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walking away

When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away

Slipped away

It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (More than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
