Hi jonjan - there is a thread with a recommended reading list - http://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=4718 . This is a long list, though, so it might seem a bit overwhelming. The Wave Series was actually written by Laura, not her husband and is quite informative and also a great place to 'start' to get a general overview of things and some background on how we got to where we are today.
The original Wave series is actually freely available on http://www.cassiopaea.org/cass/waveindex.htm - the printed books of the series are edited and updated, but most of the information is presented in the on line version. There is a LOT of material available at www.cassiopaea.org if you get a chance to check into it.
