What's happening in Serbia

I think that this happened as a culmination of several moves of Telekom Srbija, including this one:

According to information published by the Beta agency, Telekom Srbija has concluded a contract to purchase television rights to broadcast English Premier League matches starting from the 2022/23 season for the next six years for as much as 100 million euros per year (600 million in total). Beta also reported that Telekom paid 200 million euros in advance instead of providing a bank guarantee, which is common in such transactions.

The aforementioned amount of 600 million euros for six years caused public disbelief. Some noted that Telekom could use that money to buy a Premier League club (the seventh most valuable club in the Premier League, Everton, is estimated at around 525 million dollars) and then generate income from television rights. In any case, if the amount is correct, there is room for disbelief because in the previous three-year period (from 2019 to 2022) Sport Klub, as part of the United Group, paid almost 10 times less for the rights to broadcast Premier League matches, for the same markets that Telekom will now serve. However, Arena Sport, as part of Telekom, will broadcast all 380 matches per year, which is slightly more than the number of broadcasts so far, and the rights were purchased for the region of the former Yugoslavia. This means that the rights cost around 260,000 euros per match, for broadcast in six countries. For comparison, according to unofficial data, the rights for the Czech Republic and Slovakia were paid eight million euros per year.

– It is impossible for this new price to be profitable, of course, because countries with much more inhabitants and users who, I remind you, pay a much higher subscription price, paid several times less for the rights to the Premier League than Telekom. Germany, Austria and Switzerland together paid 25 million euros per year. France alone, which is the most expensive by territory, paid 40 million euros. Any layman could calculate that the 100 million euros that Arena Sport gave cannot be from a commercial interest. I think that Telekom will have something to explain as a state-owned company why they paid an unimaginably high price for football league broadcasts, especially since there cannot be any relevant economic calculation or any commercial basis for the offer of 600 million euros.

After that, SBB was slowly losing customers, so they probably decided to sell the company while it is still worth something.

Banks close NIS accounts on Saturday, is there a threat of closing the pumps?

Serbian energy is in a difficult position, because the system has been neglected for decades in terms of investments, and as for security, the diversification of supply only began after the war in Ukraine began in 2022. At the time when Europe imposed sanctions on Russia, Serbia remained the only country in which the entire oil system is in the hands of Gazprom, which the United States imposed sanctions on in January. The Serbian authorities have requested a postponement of the start of their implementation, however, according to sources of Nova Ekonomija, who know the situation in detail at NIS, the security of supply will be under great question in the coming days.

As we learn, banks in Serbia have set Saturday, February 22, as the day they will close NIS accounts and stop conducting transactions with the company. This decision will have dramatic consequences for NIS, but it does not end the problems for either NIS or citizens.

"A company ceases to exist when its accounts are closed. Even if someone wants to violate sanctions, there is no way to pay money to NIS. The Serbian government really must not play with this because it could itself come under sanctions," says the interlocutor of Nova Ekonomija, adding that what was proposed as a solution, that intermediaries buy oil and resell it to NIS, is not feasible because they would also come under sanctions.

Another source for Nova Ekonomija also confirms that banks will stop cooperating with NIS, except perhaps the state-owned Postanska stedionica. In addition, another bank is currently planning to continue servicing NIS until February 27, hoping for a last-minute political agreement.

The consequence of the closure of NIS's bank accounts, according to a person familiar with the oil sanctions, is that NIS's gas stations will soon cease operations. If a bank still keeps the company's account open, this could extend their operations by a few days. According to sources with whom Nova ekonomija spoke, the company considered the possibility of continuing to operate by accepting only cash at the gas stations, in case it was prevented from accepting cards, but it was concluded that such a way of working would be unfeasible in practice and that the company would in any case have problems with all other payments that must be made within the banking system.

But, although fuel may not be available at NIS-owned gas stations, all other gas stations in Serbia will continue to operate normally, such as OMV, MOL, Shell and others. MOL confirmed to RTS that they are ready to double fuel deliveries to Serbia and are working with Hungarian and Serbian authorities to simplify procedures for its transport. In addition, Serbia also has oil and fuel reserves sufficient for two months, and NIS itself has its own reserves. However, the question is how to deliver this fuel to consumers in the event that NIS gas stations are closed.

According to NIS, the company operates a network of over 400 gas stations in the Balkan market under two brands – NIS Petrol and the premium brand GAZPROM. According to data from the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade of Serbia from May last year, there are 1,529 gas stations in Serbia, of which NIS runs 324, and Lukoil and Knez Petrol have more than a hundred.

However, NIS holds around 80 percent of the Serbian petroleum products market, and slightly less than half in retail sales alone, which is why there is no doubt that the cessation of this company's operations would cause a major disruption in the fuel market.

Decades of warnings from energy experts that energy supplies must be distributed across different countries and forms in Serbia have not borne fruit. Only in the last two years have investments in the energy sector increased, so that the country has lost the race for a security-resistant energy system in the geopolitical realignment. As many times before, investments have gone mainly to EXPO, stadiums, roads, and weapons. We are again dealing with the energy system late, and under the pressure of sanctions.

JANAF and supply

JANAF, the Croatian oil pipeline through which NIS is supplied with all of its imported oil, told Nova Ekonomija that they still hope to be exempted from sanctions.

"JANAF dd, through its American lawyers and in coordination with the Government of the Republic of Croatia, has submitted a request to OFAC for a license to implement the contract with NIS. OFAC has the authority to allow exceptions under certain sanctions programs, and we expect that a license for such exceptions could be obtained for the implementation of the oil transport contract we have with NIS. It is not in anyone's interest for Serbia to be left without a secure oil supply, and we believe that a compromise solution will be reached that will enable the fulfillment of contractual obligations towards NIS," JANAF said.

Goran Radosavljević, a professor at the FEFA Faculty, previously told our editorial team that he doubts that any company from the US would be interested in NIS, because rumors have emerged that the American Shell could be a potential buyer.

"Mol may not have an economic interest, because they have enough of their own refineries, but they have a political interest in buying NIS. It seems more realistic to me that some players from the Middle East will appear. I wouldn't be surprised if the Russians don't want to sell their stake. They have no interest in getting out of here, unless someone forces them, and I don't see anyone forcing them. If they decide to stay, the company could go bankrupt and that would then create a problem for the state. In that case, the state would be forced to put the company under its control," says Radosavljević.

NIS was sold for 400 million euros in 2008 to Gazprom.

Under US sanctions, in addition to NIS, whose operations were indirectly prevented through Gazprom, local politicians were also on this list, namely current ministers Aleksandar Vulin and Nenad Popović.

Judging by the current situation related to NIS, it is increasingly certain that foreign banks in Serbia will close the company's accounts on Monday, February 24 or two days later, which practically means that financial transactions will be stopped. The financial institutions decided to take this step on the instructions of their headquarters because the sanctions imposed by the US administration have not been postponed, and there is little chance that this will be done in the next few days.

According to "Blic Biznis", in such a bad scenario, there is a good episode, and that is that these NIS gas stations will not be closed and that the supply will be regular. They will continue to operate, and oil derivatives purchased at one of the 400 gas stations, in two brands - NIS Petrol and the premium brand GAZPROM, will be able to be paid for with DINA cards and cash, because it is assumed that Visa and Mastercard will join the sanctions.

At least that is what our interlocutors from NIS and Nemanjina 11 claim.

- This is an extremely dramatic moment not only for NIS employees, but also for the state of Serbia. This is especially true since the banks from the Intesa and OTP systems officially informed NIS that on Monday they will collect approved loans worth 100 million euros from the company. This will be a major blow for the company and will be even greater when other financial institutions that have lent NIS credit also follow suit. This is an amount of around 450 million euros, meaning the company's debt ranges from 100 to 550 million euros. This financial shock would not be without significant consequences even for much larger companies. There is great concern among employees, who received their February salaries in advance yesterday, as well as among the citizens of Serbia.

The government and expert teams are monitoring the situation on a daily basis and are trying to find a last-minute way out of this maze, however, time is running out and there is no solution, meaning the US administration is not responding to our request to postpone the sanctions. "The Russian side does not want to give up its shares and ownership. In other words, they are fighting behind our backs," our sources say.

Question is: what "US sanctions". The "US sanctions" seen so far is just privately owned foreign banks IN SERBIA, are going to destroy NIS financial liquidity, in order to render it "bad company", and to sell it to the new owner. (Could be the same owner as those banks').

No "US sanctions" there. But very vividly explains how Vutchich and the gang destroyed and sold the whole country to the globalist mafia.

Do you have an opinion who would be a good candidate for the president, is there someone that appears as lesser evil or even someone who might do good things for your country?

Dr Branimir Nestorović (Nestorovich), and his political movement by the name: Mi - Snaga Naroda (We - the strength of the people).

He is famous pulmonologist and immunologist, known in Serbia for decades. He was in "covid crysis staff", but he started to talk that corona is genetically modified to inject people with MRNA vaccines, and that the "protocols and treatment" kills more people than the corona. And of course against the world health organisation, and that the government should give away ivermectin and supplements, and not vaccinating people. He is then forced to retire and ridiculed as "conspiracy theorist" and "antivaxer", together with couple of lawsuit against him. In short, kind of person that you can expect to see here, in our forum, not in the politics (I wouldn't be surprised if he is even reading our forum, because he often talks of ideas we are talk here too)

In october of 2023. he formed political movement "Mi - Glas Naroda" (We - the voice of the people), and after just a two months participated in election and won seats in serbian parliament of the republic and the parliament of the city of Belgrade. As it always be, some of his associates were bought by the ruling party (Vutchich's) and his movement dissolved. But, as it always be in Serbia, Vutchich also called for another election in just a 3 - 4 months. Nestorovich and his remaining associates made new political movement "Mi - Snaga Naroda", and made even better result in parliament of the republic and parliament of Belgrade.

Since then they're blocked out of all TV stations, newspapers, and any other media. Thats why they're almost unknown outside Serbia. Only recently they are talking again on newly opened RT Balkan and Newsmax TVs. Fortunately, politics in Serbia is not done on TVs or online, but face to face in village markets, town squares and public halls, so they are known and gaining popularity.

Politically, Nestorovich and his movement are nationalists, conservative, anti globalists, pro - Russia, but also pro - Trump and Robert Kenedy. They are participating in the student's ongoing movement against Vutchich.

In "Mi - Snaga Naroda" movement are good number of doctors, university professors and lawyers, who are almost all top experts in Serbia in their respective fields.

Here is their latest event in the small town of Raska, on health mostly:

Very cinematic video of students going from city of Zaječar (Zayetchar) to city of Niš (Neesh). Too bad that author is not more skilled in video editing.

Students are marching from town to town "to awake the people". Which is very successful so far.

Meanwhile, NIS has changed ownership structure in attempt to avoid "take over because of sanctions". Gaspromneft hand over 6% of their actions to Gasprom, and in that way is not majority stakeholder anymore. In a wain, of course, if Vutchich want to sell it, no one can do anything.

The psychopath, mediocre talented for criminal cant see that his days "in the office" are outnumbered, that the world is changing and that he cant hide or buy his freedom with stolen money. The more time it takes, the bloodier the downfall will be. Just as any other psychopath in power.
Do you think that what happened today in parliament was the work of the opposition or could it have been a false flag to blame it on the opposition?

From RT Russian Telegram Channel
Why did the Serbian opposition stage riots in parliament and will they develop into a "Maidan"? RT asked experts.

▪️Opposition parties cannot achieve a balance of power in their favor, so they have chosen the path of rebellion, says Ekaterina Entina , director of the HSE Center for Mediterranean Studies:

“This is unlikely to develop into a new ‘Maidan’ today... Such a strong reaction is also connected to the fact that the protesters on the streets do not want to see any of the opposition representatives, as well as the authorities, as their leaders.”

▪️Alexander Pivovarenko, a research fellow at the HSE Centre for Mediterranean Studies, believes that we should expect new attempts to raise a wave of protests in Serbia with calls to join the EU:

“This aggravation of public sentiment in Serbia is in line with Brussels’ interests in strengthening its position in the Balkan region and in turning towards Brussels, not towards Washington.”

During the unrest in parliament, the opposition called for the resignation of President Vucic
...
Three female MPs have been hospitalized following unrest in the Serbian parliament, local publication Kurir reports.

Jasmina Karanac was reportedly injured after being hit in the head by a flashbang grenade, pregnant Sonja Ilic was also taken to hospital, and Jasmina Obradovic suffered a stroke.

Representatives of the Serbian opposition tried to disrupt the parliamentary session. They are calling for the resignation of President Aleksandar Vucic.

Do you think that what happened today in parliament was the work of the opposition or could it have been a false flag to blame it on the opposition?
The Serbian opposition, backed by West, wants to oust Vucic from power, just to start "selling Serbia", and to cut ties with Russia. The same scenario was applied in Macedonia few years ago, and unfortunately it was successful. Terrorists and criminals came to power and they started to "sell Macedonia".

Thanks for the clarification. I hope that this mess will backfire on them.

...
First: there are no parallels between the situation in Serbia with situation in Macedonia, Ukraine, Moldavia, Bosnia.

Forget West vs East dichotomy in this case. Serbia is totally under west's dominance. That is more to that, but would need much more writing.

Second: there is no opposition in Serbia. Position and opposition both work for the West. Position pretends to be traditionalistic and nationalistic, but covertly leading Serbia to the hand of western oligarchy and the deep state. Opposition is also doing exactly that but overtly. Together they make false choice for the people. System is the same as two-party system was in the US. The both are the same. All opposition parties were paid by USAID, but running party too was paid by the USAID. Further more, serbian law system, parliament, news, tvs, down to single township's administrations were paid and instructed by the USAID. Serbia is USAID's and Soros's playground. And that is not something that "I say", that is easy to check.

To answer @sToRmR1dR
Serbia is sold in the West's slavery way before Macedonia. Vutchich and "opposition" just want to that state of the things to hold, and to sell more.

The real opposition is the people of Serbia. And now students' movement, which is still without any visible representative, only students with their idea so far. The idea is normal functioning country worth living in it. (not the EU. Most of serbian students are nationalistic). It must be without any visible representative so that no one can point finger in anyone, and at the same time all can understand their idea. Which is fairly universal. No doubt that the students' movement was started by some pro-western NGO almost four months ago, but it got out of control. If it is still someone's sci-op or "colored revolution", than its not West's. This is way above western level of organising. (not to forget that there is no need for that. The West already have their walking colored revolution in the form of Vutchich.

So, on one side Vutchich, position and oposition, NGO's, all fake political system in Serbia, on another side people, students, and couple of tiny nationalistic and traditionalistic parties with just a few members of parliament (who got out today before the show started). People and students are mixed bag, but majority is traditionalistic, nationalistic, against EU and NATO, before everything pro - Serbia and pro real sovereign country.

And for the show in parliament - Serbia is failed, non functioning country, and so is its parliament. For years now, parliament only serves for bringing up laws which are mostly damaging to the country. Very recently they organised the same show as this one today. In the same way, fake opposition is starting fight with the fake position. Question is why. For this today there is two reasons. First is the same as the reason for the last fake fight, during the "fight" they "vote" laws to power. Actually the whole sets of laws. Last one was around 70 laws and today were around 60 laws. Laws that make easier to sell land to Rio Tinto, to take money lawns from IMF to build "Belgrade Expo" (the biggest money siphoning scheme in Europe probably in hundreds years. Twenty billion of dollars in the game, France deeply involved. Another story). People don't want that, its easier for them to do it this way.

The second reason for today lies in the fact that Vutchich days are outnumbered. No one wants him anymore. People are starting to riot more and more by the day. Big rallies are held in all bigger cities. All bigger in numbers than the previous. The next one is scheduled for march the fifteenth in Belgrade. Every one of the rallies so far was bigger than any rally in the time of Slobodan Milosevic. That one in Belgrade will be really big, and probably will got out of control. People have already seized the power in some villages and townships, (albeit very gently, only where that was posible without hurting anyone) the mood in the people is that it is time now to go for a bigger. The parliament show is there so that Vutchich can get in act marshal law so that big rally in Belgrade couldn't happen, and to end this rebelion. Which probably wouldn't be posible because this parliament show is already ridiculed. If he don't manage to put marshal law in the act, Vutchich will use this to further polarize people in wain hope to start some small civil war or something like that. Which is just his narcissistic psychopathy wishful thinking because there is no chance for that, people are more united than was in more than twenty years. And all sick and tired of him and his gang of thieves who are in power in Serbia for more than 30 years. Also there are very few that would fight for him, and all of them just for their own interes, not the idea or man. So, nothing of it.

The whole show is essentially obfuscation and attention directing from the street and the people, back to Vutchich and fake parties.

Also, forget that "female representatives are injured", that's the trick Vutchich use for 12 years now. No one believes that crap anymore.

What RT didn't mention is that position and "opposition" were in parliament for hours after the event, and guarded by gendarmerie because people in thousands massed up in front of parliament to protest against all of them.

From your RT quotes, Ekaterina Etina knows what she is talking, Alexander Pivovarenko is clueless. There will not be "calls to join EU" in Serbia. (Vutchich and the "opposition" already want that, so nothing of that)

For more clear and detailed picture I suggest search on croatian investigative journalist Domagoj Margetic. Also Alex Krainer is in his rare mention on Serbia pretty spot on, but a bit less than Margetic. For the picture on Serbia from Serbia I suggest portal NSPM. Not hard to translate it via Google.

Нова српска политичка мисао

One view on the people in front of the parliament today:

Good article on Vutchich and USAID. And that not a half of all, his ties with WEF is even more interesting. All that Vutchich say, in any form, you can count a a lie.

In recent weeks, the pro-government media in Serbia have gloated over the news that US President Donald Trump, shortly after returning to the White House, decided to freeze funding for the US Agency for International Development (USAID). According to the tabloids, USAID is a “notorious organisation”, which used to fund non-governmental organisations in the country, hostile to President Aleksandar Vučić.

Vučić himself, in a similar tone, recently claimed that the “coloured revolution” in Serbia, supposedly financed by the USAID, had failed.

“Let me tell you, their coloured revolution has failed. Let the USAID, NED and the EED know. It’s over with that”, Vučić said at the pro-government rally on 15 February, referring to the ongoing student protests.

In addition, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MP Vladimir Đukanović made a public proposal to start a “serious investigation” of all USAID-funded projects in Serbia. This narrative culminated earlier this week, when the Serbian police entered the offices of four civil society organizations (CSOs) to collect information on the possible misuse of USAID funds. The move has been criticized as authoritarian and a part of government intimidation, with commentators pointing out that four CSOs critical of the government were baselessly singled out and targeted.

Many have described both the narratives and the actions of the ruling party as hypocritical, since most USAID projects in Serbia over the past two decades were carried out in cooperation with the national and local governments. More importantly, neither Vučić nor his associates, such as former Prime Minister and current Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić, were reluctant to praise the USAID in the past.

Brnabić and Vučić were full of praise for USAID activities

In 2021, when USAID celebrated two decades of work in Serbia, the opening of the exhibition was attended by the then Prime Minister and now Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabić, as well as Ivica Dačić, currently the Minister of Interior. It was stated back then that the USAID had invested 882 million dollars in support of the country’s economic and democratic development.

On this occasion, it was pointed out that “USAID’s cooperation with state institutions contributed to these institutions responding better to the needs of citizens”, and Ana Brnabić stressed that the USAID activities in Serbia “make our country more beautiful and richer”. According to Brnabić, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the US Government, through USAID, allocated 9.1 million euros for assistance to Serbia.

Brnabić added that the Agency had helped the Government to equip scientific and health institutions for the fight against COVID, as well as that “USAID supported the efforts of the Government of Serbia in the field of innovation and digitalisation”.

official biography of Ana Brnabić, who became the Speaker of the National Assembly in 2024, states that, in the 2000s, “she was engaged in various American consulting companies that implemented projects financed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Serbia”, and that, among other things, she was one of the founders and the President of the Board of the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED). NALED was founded in 2006 “within the USAID project for encouraging economic development of municipalities”.

Asked about her professional engagement with the USAID in a press conference on 23 February, Ana Brnabić confirmed that she was a founder and president of the board of NALED, but that she “never worked in NALED”.

“I do not see any problem with financing from abroad as long as it is transparent and as long as the goals are clear”, Brnabić said. In the same press conference, however, she claimed that some CSOs in Serbia were receiving funding to overthrow Aleksandar Vučić, without providing any evidence.

Brnabić also agreed to remove the USAID logo from the website of the National Assembly at the request of the pro-Russian opposition. The website was developed in 2011 with the help of a USAID fund, and its logo was present on it until this year. The websites of several other state institutions were also developed with the assistance of USAID, and their logos are still present.

Brnabić also praised USAID in March 2023, when she met with the Administrator of the organisation, Samantha Power. She stated that USAID assistance “enabled significant reforms in Serbian society and economy”. In a cordial one-hour conversation, Brnabić also stressed that Serbia saw the future cooperation with it primarily in the domains of technology, innovation and artificial intelligence.

Samantha Power was also warmly welcomed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in May 2023. On this occasion, “President Vučić emphasized Serbia’s commitment to strengthening comprehensive relations with the United States, and especially thanked for the assistance that USAID has provided to the country through its programs in the domains of strengthening the competitiveness of the economy, better functioning of public administration, as well as through current projects implemented at the municipal level, aimed at the improvement of the use of renewable energy sources and environmental protection”.

It was added that “the interlocutors agreed that USAID is a desirable partner for cooperation on projects that will further intensify economic relations with the United States and attract new American investments”.

Not only the Government, but the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) itself apparently cooperated with the USAID. According to a post on the SNS official website from 2018, a USAID Delegation was received in the party headquarters by two senior members, who discussed “support to SNS groups in parliaments… and programmes of political education of SNS members”. Whether this support was implemented and in what form remains unknown.

Which projects have been funded by the USAID in Serbia since 2001?

The new White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt said at a press conference in early February that USAID had spent 1.5 million dollars to improve DEI (diversity, equality and inclusion) in workplaces in Serbia, 70,000 dollars for DEI musical in Ireland, 40,000 for transgender opera in Colombia, and 32,000 for transgender comics in Peru.…

“I don’t know about you, but as an American taxpayer, I don’t want my dollars to be spent on this garbage,” Levitt said.

On the other hand, the USAID web site in Serbia, which is temporarily unavailable, stated, among other things, that “USAID implemented a comprehensive strategy that removed obstacles to doing business, increased transparency, attracted domestic and foreign investments and provided opportunities for companies to develop”.

As it was pointed out, USAID, together with NALED, the organisation co-founded by Ana Brnabić, “designed and conducted the certification procedure of municipalities with a favorable business environment, which is a kind of seal of quality for investors coming to Serbia.”

Also, USAID in Serbia implemented “projects to help agricultural farms to improve the production and placement of their products, as well as to help small businesses create new jobs”.

USAID also helped introduce e-government in municipalities in Serbia, which “simplified procedures for citizens such as applying for birth and marriage registration and other services”, and cooperated with municipalities throughout Serbia “to create conditions for attracting foreign investments and creating new jobs”.

The website also claimed that USAID ensured that ” micro and small agricultural enterprises get access to finance”, and that it supported “agribusiness to conquer new export markets”.

As a result of USAID support in Serbia, cooperation with local communities has often stood out, on projects such as ” renovation or construction of schools, cultural centers, health centers, hospitals, kindergartens and local communities, construction of roads, green and livestock markets”, procurement of medical equipment, equipment for schools…

This is one of the "injured female members of the parliament of Vutchich's party" during the "fight" in the parliament. She manages to dance, be injured and to vote for the 60 laws at the same time!
