What's happening in Serbia

It's finally happening. N1 and Nova are coming to Yettel. At the end of the last quarter, Telekom had 54,9% of the TV market, SBB had 37,5% and Yettel 4,9%.

Yesterday, Vučić was visiting a place that was battling with fire, and he commented how there was not a single type of natural disaster that didn't hit us since 2014. And I was thinking, well yeah, the gods are angry at us! :-)

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service says that it has information that the European Union is preparing a "Serbian Maidan".

Russian state really should listen to their intellectuals, analysts and journalist more, and stop being the enemy of the Serbian people. And all out of their clumsiness. Or they could try to be little less clumsy and try to put their statement in appropriate context. In this way, they are working for Vucic who works for the globalists. Which means that official Russia works for globalists too.

They are also "late captain obvious". Everyone in Serbia, literally everyone, knows that the West (not anemic EU, but more powerful players such as US and British secret services) are trying to infiltrate the student's and people's protests. Thats why the whole thing lasts so long. They did menage to derail it a bit, but that costed only in time, not in direction. Direction was consequently adjusted. Knowledge is gained. Vucic, who is West's agent is spent and needs to be replaced by the new agent for and from the West. And that is from Serbian fake opposition. They are unpopular among the people almost as Vucic is. He himself is helping them in that by ever trying to provoke more violence at the protests which then he would used for more repression, and of course crying "colored revolution!".

First his political party's thugs (low level criminals) were attacking the police, who then was attacking the protesters. Then he organised anti-walks and anti-blockades with his party's members. At least those he payed to come. The latest "action" is military parade which lasts two weeks. I kid you not, the whole 90% of Serbian military, and 100% of Serbian air force, is "rehearsing" for military parade on the streets of Belgrade. Tanks are blocking the traffic, asphalt is ruined, soldiers feeling embarrassed, planes and helicopters in low level flight over the city a-la Latin America dictatorships from the 1970s. Of course, all in vain, people are feeling less and less scared and thus less annoyed. Good thing is that the regime is looking more and more clownish by the day. Its literally "the emperor is naked" situation.

The premise that the West's is attempting the color revolution because Serbia is free country, and that there are Serbian people who wants the EU in Serbia are pure idiocy. Serbia is under West's rule from the 2000., there are people in Serbia who wants the EU, but on the level of statistic error. People in Serbia is against criminal, corruption, total devastation of everything in the country from cultural, economic, sociological, political, and anything other what is important for the normal life. That is done BY THE WEST for the last 25 years, Vucic was just perfecting it and made it in very blunt and vulgar ways. Person who wants to understand situation in Serbia must read a lot.

(BTW, there is no "Maidan" in Serbia, that annoys us. Majdan means: small stone quarry, and is old Turkish legacy word. Anachronic in Serbia. We use: narodni ustanak or buna (armed popular uprising or rebellion).

Couple of articles from Russian authors for better understanding:

What is happening in Serbia?

In Serbia, student protests are de facto escalating into a national uprising. Why can’t it be called a “colored revolution” or a “maidan”? Because Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is a man of the West. Washington and Brussels need him as a mediator of their interests in the Balkans and as a real counterweight to Russian influence in the region. Vučić is an agent of the West who, under the guise of “friendship with Russia,” is doing everything to ensure that Russia completely and forever loses Serbia and the fraternal affection of the Serbs.

The protests in Serbia are not a "Maidan" on the Ukrainian model, and even less a provocation by the almighty George Soros. It is an internal popular protest against widespread corruption. People are protesting against the arrogant behavior of a small group of elites gathered around Vučić, who are enriching themselves at the expense of the state treasury.

Vučić's arrogant and haughty behavior is reminiscent of the dictator from the "banana republic" described in O. Henry's novel "The Cabbage Patch", where the population lives in extreme poverty and the government is made up of thieves. Vučić has de facto turned Serbia into a "banana republic".

Serbs are protesting against the subordination of their country to the interests of transnational corporations, political control by the US and Europe, and against the handover of national resources for the exclusive use of Western companies.

Vučić is leading Serbia towards the EU, and eventually towards NATO. And the vast majority of Serbs are Russophiles, genetically. The political crisis in Serbia represents the resistance of Orthodox Serbs to their country being drawn into the “family” of the godless West, which is also waging war against Russia. This is the deep essence of the Serbian internal conflict, which does not always have visible manifestations, but which is its real driver. Leave Serbia in the embrace of Orthodoxy and with Russia – and everything will calm down on the streets of Serbian cities as if by magic.

Washington and Brussels are silently observing the situation. The question is when and how they will themselves embark on an operetta-style change of power in Serbia, in order to prevent a development that does not suit them. It will be a farce, disguised by slogans of “democracy and freedom” – the same slogans that are on the lips of the protesters.

The weakness of the protesters is that this spontaneous popular protest can be taken over by Brussels, in order to replace Vučić “in accordance with the demands of the street.” It is important to recognize the personality that the West will propose to the Serbs as a replacement for Vučić.

It seems that the current president of Serbia is facing the fate of Anastasio Somoza – the Nicaraguan dictator whom the US supported for a long time, and then allowed to be overthrown when it became clear that the national uprising led by the Sandinistas would certainly win. Another thing is that Washington miscalculated and failed to bring its candidate to power. The Sandinistas proved to be smarter and stronger, despite the power of the US – just like their “brothers” in Cuba in 1959. How it will be in Serbia – no one can say. But everything indicates that the countdown has already begun for Vučić personally.

Vučić understands well the danger that threatens him personally, and not the regime, and has threatened to intensify repression. He addressed the people, qualifying the actions of the rioters as “terrorism.” His next moves are easy to predict. He warned that “bandits” (as he calls the protesters) “will soon start killing in the streets.” In fact, this is an open threat. It should be read as an order to the security forces to kill.

The paradox is that instead of dialogue with the people, in order to reduce tension, Vučić himself provokes riots. The situation is such that tightening police measures will only provoke an even stronger reaction from the people. And this will give Vučić the moral right to introduce a state of emergency, although the authorities claim that this option is not yet being considered. But if it is already being mentioned, it means that it is on the table. The tension of the Serbian crisis is growing.

Obviously, things are not as simple as our media portrays when it comes to the nature of youth protests in Serbia. Our Serbian friends argue that it is wrong to reduce everything to a “pro-European Maidan”. According to their assessment, the critical mood of the majority of protesters is primarily caused by the failures of the government’s economic policy, corruption and the closed circle of protection within the ruling regime.

Over the last 30-35 years, we have witnessed how Western countries, mainly Anglo-Saxon, used NGO networks to wage hybrid warfare and organize "color revolutions", we studied this phenomenon, cataloged the signs, compiled manuals for dummies and all this really worked until the recent events in Serbia. Despite the similarity of individual external elements, the protests in Serbia have a completely different nature and are more of an Anti-Maidan, evidence of which is abundantly presented here .

However, the trained media and experts continue to stubbornly call this a "color revolution", without delving into the essence of the matter and causing wild irritation among the Serbs.

Today, URA.RU published an interesting article about Serbian protests. It is noteworthy for several reasons:

1. The author "hears the bell, but does not know where it is" when he writes about the US interest in inciting protests, linking this to lithium developments that are important for the West and completely failing to understand that it is the Serbian government that is promoting this project , signed Strategic Agreements with the EU and with Germany separately to provide European partners with such an important raw material. The protests began in June last year precisely against these developments. That is, according to the author's logic, the West is sponsoring protests in order to deprive itself of strategic resources.

2. As is traditional for superficial journalism, the author ignores the very fact that Vucic and the ruling party fully meet Western interests with their work, but do not meet Russian interests. ( There is a separate long article with lots of links to verifiable facts about this ). Moreover, they have been making money on killing Russians in Donbass for three years ( report of the SVF RF ) , and even after the suspension of exports, they allowed weapons for Ukraine to be transported through their territory .

3. A new narrative is being introduced that at first it was a genuine surge of public discontent , since there were no political demands for 5 months, and now it is definitely a "color revolution ". However, the authorities called it a color revolution from the very beginning and simply ignored the people's demands. Even the case of the collapse of that canopy in Novi Sad has not yet been made public, and the perpetrators have not been punished. Yes, Vucic dissolved the Vucevic government, but no one asked him to do so. There was no real dialogue with the people, no attempts to solve the problem. Only when the people finally realized that their government was not listening to them, they put forward political demands.

4. The author cites as a source the words of the Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs of the Assembly of Serbia, Milovan Drecun (the same committee, by the way, which was supposed to control the export of weapons all these years ).

What Dretsun said is curious. "The key role in financing the mass protests is played by Western non-governmental organizations (NGOs), foreign foundations and wealthy representatives of the Serbian diaspora, mainly from the US and Europe. Among the sponsors are the former mayor of Belgrade Dragan Djilas and the media holding United Group of Dragan Šolak, as well as pro-Western NGOs such as CRTA and the TRAG foundation, which annually receive millions of euros "under the guise of subsidies." Financing is also provided by businessmen from the Serbian diaspora and large entrepreneurs within the country." The author also added data from REN TV that "the protests in Serbia also have a clear American trace, connected with the US Democratic Party and the American financier George Soros, who, according to official Belgrade, has been supporting protest movements in various countries for many years. In addition, Serbian special services reported the discovery of spy groups linked to the intelligence services of Croatia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bulgaria." Here the author quotes Vucic as saying that foreigners invested more than 10 billion dollars to get rid of him. In general, the above list of interested parties suggests that Vucic has gotten on everyone's nerves, including his own citizens.

However, it is worth taking this whole heap apart piece by piece. It is like untying a ball of snakes.

It is foolish to deny the presence of intelligence networks from other countries trying to use the protests for their own interests. There are currently intelligence services from about 25 countries operating in Serbia. Some do not want to lose influence. Others are trying to gain it. In Serbian society itself, there is unity only on one principle - "Vucic must go ." But there are different groups there. There are even openly pro-Western ones, like Djilas, who is so unpopular that only a few dozen people can be gathered for his rally, and only for money (apparently the same ones mentioned in the article). But they are a minority, because it was precisely following Western interests that put Serbia in the difficult economic situation it is in. It is Western companies that threaten to make the northwest of the country uninhabitable due to lithium development. It is the West that demands recognition of Kosovo .

Regarding Soros and Western NGOs. The Serbian president himself has excellent relations with the Soros family , as evidenced by their numerous meetings and pleasant conversations, which are even recorded on Vucic's own website.

Well, in general, Vucic has always been on excellent terms with those who bombed Yugoslavia – with Gerhard Schroeder, Bill Clinton and Tony Blair. The latter is even an adviser to the Serbian government .

And in general, Vucic fulfills all his obligations to the states. What is the Strategic Energy Agreement between the countries , signed at the end of last year, worth!?
ne might assume that this is Trump's revenge for Vucic's previous support for the Democrats, but that doesn't add up either. Last year, Vucic supported Trump, albeit not too fiercely. Moreover, his lobbyists Ranko Ristic, Filip Milivojevic, Zoran Beric, Dan Micic and Goran Petkovic were hardly Trump's main sponsors in the last election (all are US citizens, otherwise it would be interference in internal affairs). These businessmen are engaged in arms trade, supplying Serbian military-industrial complex products to the US. According to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, military equipment worth 109.6 million euros and ammunition worth 25 million euros were exported to the US in 2023. The main export suppliers are Zastava Arms (the same Ranko Ristic) and Prvi Partizan. Such business cannot be done in Serbia while being in the opposition, since it is under state control.

In the US, however, there is another part of the diaspora, which comes from the families of soldiers of the army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (the so-called Chetniks). They were forced to flee Serbia when Josip Broz Tito became the head of state and began political purges. ( I recommend the documentary film by the Russia TV channel about the Chetniks and their role in World War II .) This part of the Serbs mostly distanced themselves from political games after the US government bombed Yugoslavia and recognized the independence of Kosovo (Trump, by the way, also does not abandon this). The Chetnik diaspora perceived this as a betrayal, speaking out against the interference of foreign states in the affairs of Serbia.

And finally, Serbian businessmen within Serbia. The inclusion of businessmen from Serbia itself in the category of sponsors of the "color revolution" sounds comical, because they are Serbian citizens and they are free to have their own opinion and express their civic position. All big business is tied to the ruling party, so it mainly sponsors the equipment of the president's supporters and their transportation from all corners of Serbia to pro-government rallies. Financial support for the protests is provided by small and medium-sized businesses - the very ones that, in fact, grow from the people, and therefore understand and share their aspirations. The entire burden of the ineffective economic policy of the Serbian state in the form of taxes, tariffs, fees, etc. falls on them and ordinary citizens.

At the same time, supporting the protesters is a really serious and dangerous matter, because for this you can be left without a business, without a license, subject to unscheduled inspections, which will definitely find some problems, as happened with the restaurant business of Emir Kusturica , a friend of the Russian president, who supported the students.

The thesis about the "color" nature of the protests is a huge misconception. The processes taking place in Serbia are very complex and multi-layered, where everything is mixed. But if we proceed not from superficial signs, but from facts and fundamental interests of all participants in these processes, then everything becomes much simpler and clearer. However, recognizing the fact that Vucic is not "our son of a bitch" means recognizing that all these years someone stubbornly ignored reality and sent reports to the top that everything was under control and everything was calm in Serbia. We have already been through this in Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan... The situation here is much more complicated. There is no Maidan here. Here the government is in favor of moving to the West, and the people are against it. Here the government is making money and covering the export of weapons to Ukraine in order to kill Russians (see the SVR report), and the people are collecting humanitarian aid for the children of Donbass and going to rallies in support of the SVO. We need to open our eyes and stop betting on traitors.

One interesting, click for english translation:

For the end, images from Anna Yurpalova article. Just to put that "colored revolution in Serbia" idiocy finally on the rest.
