What's the weather where you are?

Ya'll, news stories about weather here and there should go to sott. This thread is for personal reports about the weather where YOU are, especially if it corroborates news items. In case you are in an area where newsworthy weather happens, include the news item along with your own observations.

Weird Sky Phenomenon over Moscow Region, Russia
http://ufosightingshotspot.blogspot.fr/2016/07/weird-sky-phenomenon-over-moscow-region.html
July 7, 2016
A rare phenomenon appeared in the sky on July 4, 2016 over the Moscow region Zvenigorod Aline Abayeva in Russia. A local resident who was able to film the strange spectacle in the sky, a so-called Crown Flash, uploaded the video to VK. (http://vk.com/id22323899)

Crown flash is a rare but observed phenomenon involving "The brightening of a thunderhead crown followed by the appearance of aurora-like streamers emanating into the clear atmosphere".

The current hypothesis is that sunlight is reflecting off or refracting through tiny ice crystals above the crown of a cumulonimbus cloud.

These ice crystals are aligned by the strong electro-magnetic effects around the cloud, so the effect may appear as a tall streamer or pillar of light.

When the electro-magnetic field is disturbed by lightning flashes within the cloud, the ice crystals are re-orientated causing the light pattern to shift very rapidly and appear to 'dance' in a strikingly mechanical fashion.

The effect may also sometimes known as a "leaping sundog". As with sundogs, the observer would have to be in a specific position to see the effect, which is not a self-generated light such as seen in a lightning strike, but rather a changing reflection/refraction of the sunlight.

This phenomenon is regarded as rare and not well documented.

WOW! Редчайшее наблюдение!

Жительнице Звенигорода Московской области Алине Абаевой 4 июля удалось снять редчайшее для всего мира явление - "Прыгающее гало" (Crown flash)

C.A. did you witness this yourself?

Did you read my post immediately prior to yours?

Apologies Laura. I didn't pay attention. Will do in the future.

Since the heavy rain from 2 days ago , here in Gostivar, Macedonia its sunny during the day but as soon the sun goes down in the evening and in the early morning its pretty chilly for this part of the year. Windows on the balcony are not in very good condition so water was leaking inside during this rain storm. I had to collect the water while it was getting inside. I havent seen storm like this for a long time.
The video bellow i made during the storm from my balcony.

in Montréal, this sunday morning; July 10, at 9am, the weather is close to the record low. it is presently 13c while the all time low record is 10c in 1997 according to Weather Underground almanach. _https://www.wunderground.com/_

We have had a day of heavy rain, more is planned for today. i have asked people around me if they feel, as i do, an underlying cold like a dense humidity in the background and we all feel it. Those suffering from arthritis and such have been having a bad time. The smog is choking those who have asthma, etc . All in all, it has been a fairly poor summer, as the nights are still cool, and we just discussed the fact that we would not like to be camping these days. And hopefully we will not be forced to (humour)!

July 14, South Central France: After three or four hot, summer days, the rain and stormy clouds returned. We didn't have a lot of rain here, but decent electrical storm three days ago and the past two days, cloudy, a little spritz now and then.

Interestingly, it cooled down quite a bit and this morning, it was 11.8 C which is 53 F. Rather cool for middle of the summer.

The wind keeps blowing and the black clouds come and go... It's supposed to be sunny and start heating up tomorrow. That should last a few days and then storms and cooling if it follows the cycles we've been seeing.

After a couple of days of 34- 36 C on Northern Eastern Spain, the temperatures dropped to 6-8 C. That was crazy hot and then chilly!

There has been a lot of rain and lower temperatures in central Mexico since a week ago. 20 to 22°C during the day, that is not that rare in itself given the cloudy days, but still. Also, it's colder compared with the temperatures of last year during the same date. It has been particularly colder in the nights - about 13 to 10°C - and it's supposed to go down to around 8°C next week, who knows. And according to the forecasts there's going to be thunderstorms the next couple of days.

In our area, south central Michigan, USA, we had powerful thunderstorms move thru on the evening of July 12 and again July 13. Just buckets of rain, some wind, but the lightning was super intense. As were the sonic boom like claps of thunder. It seems the electrical activity is on the up tick everywhere. A block over from us, we counted at least 1/2 dozen powerful lightning strikes seemingly hitting the same spot. If battles between STO and STS are seen as "weather" on 3D - there's some pretty intense fighting going on!!

June has been (so far) the most intense with the rain and wild swings of hot, warm and cooler temperatures.

July also saw very hot days moving as high to 33'Celsius (or 93 °F). What is also interesting is (at this location), the ceiling drops to a point where we have had many days of fog or were just living in the clouds at this altitude. Supposed to have a more settled weather pattern for the next 7 days. Typical for this region. Good warm weather to work out doors and detox (sweat).

Also seeing a lot of water vapor in the sky, that resembles a light smoke, so to speak.

I don't mean to promote these videos, but as they say "a picture is worth a thousand words"

Stay safe. :halo:

We have some overcast relief today in Split, Dalmatia after few weeks of persistent heat (+ 35°C). All this weather calamities across Europe turn out here to some Boorah gusts aka welcomed aero-cooling (YEAH!). On the other hand a kind of "the gates of Mordor" have been opened also here - read "ULTRA festival EUROPE" :barf: ... Split is to crowded these days...

Super hot in Montenegro.
Guess that overcast relief from Split will soon come to us :)
Interesting thing is that almost every year some heat record is broken here, at least that's what we've been told by media.

Heavy rain in Gdansk (North of Poland). 14 hours of rain. Blocked street intersections, numerous flooding.

"radiogdansk.pl/index.php/wiadomosci/item/46413-ulewy-i-wichury-nad-pomorzem-strazacy-interweniowali-juz-80-razy-a-padac-ma-cala-noc.html"

It was really heavy rain and yesterday when I was coming back to home I looked like I just stepped out of the shower. I live on the hill and here is quite calm and I am at work now, but certain areas are still closed and poeple are fighting with the consequences of the downpour.

Lovište on Pelješac and Viganj where I work now experiencing very hot wheater, even there is rain all over us, there's no rain here yet. Working next to the oven 3500 is very challenging.
