What's the weather where you are?

Looking over the past few months of posts, abnormal seems to be the new normal.

Here in eastern GA, it's been unusually cold all winter. One snow storm every few years is the norm, but this year there was a snow storm followed two weeks later by an ice storm followed two days later by an earthquake. It's the end of march, and we're only just this week getting our usual spring temps of +80 degrees F with pollen striking with a vengeance.

Been meaning to post in this thread recently. The day before yesterday, it snowed about 10 inches and was quite windy where I am - Armenia, a bit outside the capital and higher elevation (~ 1600 meters above sea level). The whether forecasts were predicting a significant cooling on the night of March 30 - 31. There were warnings for farmers/people in most of the country to take measures to protect, especially, fruit bearing trees that had already blossomed in many areas ahead of normal because of warmer temperatures earlier this year.

The day before the snow storm, there was about 15 to 20 minutes of extreme gusts and then around 15 minutes of hail during the day. Now they are predicting that the cold snap will last until April 2 with a chance of snow and then will begin to warm up. The coldest it's getting at my location at nights in the last couple of nights is around minus 10 to 12 C. They were saying yesterday that much of the fruit crops, and some vegetables, etc. will have been greatly damaged because of the earlier than expected cooling and unexpected blizzard.

It has been sunny in Dalmatia for a few days now, we hardly had a winter this year,
and they are announcing that April will likewise remain sunny for most part.

Here in central Alberta it has been cold, and snowing. The weatherman keeps saying that warm weather is coming, but it never materializes. Again they were saying that it would be in the plus celcius range going into double digits by the end of the week, but again it is snowing, and minus 14.

Copenhagen, Denmark, around 16:50 PM. We had a short ice storm(hail), with various sizes of ice. Dark clouds and thunders. Pretty unexpected I might say.

Spring is finally starting to manifests itself. The temperature is a few degrees over 0°C and will keep going up steadily (or so they say). It feels very good after those 5 months of pure cold.

I'm really going to enjoy every warm day since those days might be over soon here in Canada.

Weather records tumble in March - it was the sunniest ever

Monday 31 March 2014

March 2014 was warm, dry and the sunniest March since formal records began in 1901, weather bureau Weeronline.nl said on Monday.

The sun shone every day but two – March 17 and 18 – taking the total sunshine hours to 205. The previous record – 198 hours of sunshine - dates from 2003, the website said.

The temperature, an average 8.4 Celsius, is in the top three – the record 8.8 Celsius was in 1991.

The warmest day was March 20 when it reached 21.2 Celsius at the De Bilt weather station. The average temperature during the day – 13.8 Celsius – is also a record.

There was also much less rain than normal – 30 mm, compared with double that in an average March. Most of it fell on March 21.

The dry, warm weather will continue to Thursday this week, but the sun will find it difficult to break through the cloud.

It may be sunny but the air is full of Saharan dust, pollution and pollen

Wednesday 02 April 2014

The Netherlands may be enjoying some early summer weather but the air quality is currently poor, thanks to a combination of pollution, birch tree pollen and sand from the Sahara, says weather bureau weeronline.nl.

The south to southwesterly winds are bringing in air pollution from Belgium and Germany's industrial Ruhr district, which is adding to domestic pollution from cars, weeronline.nl says.

The dust from the Sahara desert, which can be seen in the brownish glow on the horizon, is making the air quality worse, experts say. And hay fever sufferers are being hit by birch pollen, which is earlier than usual this year.

The warm, sunny weather will continue into Thursday but there may be thunderstorms on Thursday evening which will improve air quality, the weather bureau says.

Rain and sea winds are also expected at the weekend.

Caterpillars

Meanwhile, the first Oak Processionary moth caterpillars have been spotted, the earliest date recorded, experts in the pest said on Wednesday.

They are advising local councils to start taking measures to combat the caterpillars, which shed poisonous hairs that cause skin irritation and breathing problems, as early as next week.

The warm weather means the caterpillars are likely to start shedding their hairs well before the first week in May.

Weather records tumble in March - it was the sunniest ever

March 2014 was warm, dry and the sunniest March since formal records began in 1901, weather bureau Weeronline.nl said on Monday.

Compare that with March last year which was one of the coldest March (since formal records began), with lots of snow. Something's up for sure.

On February 2014 (19./20.) I saw yellow "Sahara dust" on cars. It looked like this:

staub20.jpg

Today again there is the "Sahara dust" in the air here in Southern Bavaria. The sky is cloudy now and their grey has a yellow ochre tinge. The weather the last days was very warm and sunny. The earth is dry. It is more like early summer than spring. Temperatures are from 6°C this morning up to about 20°C now.

Last year this time there is was still cold and when it got warmer there were floods. I prefer to enjoy this years extreme weather. :D

Bees and butterflies are already hard at work in my garden. The plants and flowers seem unusually vibrant and strong, but maybe that's just me.

I am confused as to what's happening here in England. The MSM has been saying today that East Anglia is the worst hit area from the Sahara sand air-pollution. Well I am here in East Anglia and I have seen nothing but clear skies, and a dust free environment. The MSM also showed pictures of London in a smog, and compared it to Beijing. I called my Dad who lives in London and he said the skies are clear with no sign of dust.

Hmm. Wonder what they're up to? Covering up something else, perhaps?

It snowed again last night, but only about a centimeter. Supposed to start warming up after April 5th.

I was wondering the same thing. They are always up to something. Maybe they are going to try out a new airborne virus on us and later blame it on the pollution.

Though the weather was gorgeous, we didn't have clear skies. There was still a light fog to be seen. Someone who suffered from a lung disease wrote on a Dutch forum that she wasn't having any health problems, although the authorities had stated that the air quality was poor...

I live west of East Anglia and we had quite a bit of dust. If it was dust cause I didn't see any sand as depicted in the news, on cars, for example. But the sky was hazy and clouded and it weren't your usual clouds, more dense and further down. It was actually difficult to breathe and when the sun set (which you couldn't see), the whole sky took on a very peculiar yellow tinge. This had started around Wednesday noon and cleared by now.

This dust from the Sahara thing has been seen before, but what I didn't understand is that SUDDENLY the pollution got out of hand, I mean, it's always there more or less, why now ...
