It's snowing in Moscow now, and I remembered that I've been wanting to write about this winter for a long time. The fact is that over the past 2 months of winter, snow in Moscow has already completely disappeared 2 times. At the beginning of December, everything was as usual, both frost and snow, but then it melted and fell just before the new year. We celebrated the New Year traditionally, but after a couple of days the snow melted again and it was gone all January. The temperature was often above zero too, and sometimes it rained. Rain in Moscow in January is very unusual, and the whole situation with temperature, snow, etc. is generally unusual. I don't remember a winter like this.

Сейчас в Москве пошел снег и я вспомнил, что уже давно хотел написать о нынешней зиме у нас. Дело в том, что за прошедшие 2 месяца зимы снег в Москве полностью сходил уже 2 раза. В начале декабря все было как обычно, и мороз и снег, но потом он растаял и выпал только перед самым новым годом. Новый год мы встречали традиционно, но через пару дней снег опять растаял и его не было весь январь. Температура часто тоже была плюсовая и иногда шел дождь. Дождь в Москве в январе это очень необычно и вообще необычна вся эта ситуация с температурой, снегом и пр. Я что то не припомню подобной зимы.

This is a second winter in Serbia with almost no snow. There was a snow in December, after which it quickly melted and after that nothing, which is also very unusual. Last year it was very bad for agriculture because after snowless winter came the rainless summer. Looks like another weird year is in front of us.

Here in west Wales and over the UK in general there have been cool northerly winds for about the last 2 weeks or so. In compensation we have enjoyed clear blue skies and plenty of sunshine (but some light frosts overnight). The result of all that light is a good early display of spring flowers (including some very early bluebells in the last few days) plus an early emergence of an orangetip butterfly.

Anyway why bother with the first cut of the year for your lawn if you have a magnificent yellow carpet of lesser celandine (Ficaria verna) covering the ground - like this:

Snow on 6th of April. Sudden cooling will have temperatures halved for a couple days. Three hours ago I did fasted sprinting in the sunny countryside.
Although our meteorologists say the weather will warm [back] up soon - as it was running for a couple weeks - I expect it won't turn into this by next weekend:

Wilfand: snowfall in Moscow will increase, it is a record since April 1998
MOSCOW, April 7 - RIA Novosti. Все тоже самое, только у нас опять с рекордами. Говорят, то что сейчас происходит с температурой и осадками последний раз было почти тридцать лет назад. Кстати, в первой новости речь идет об неких осадках. Надо понимать, что в данном случае все это был снег.

The same happened in Macedonia. On Saturday, April 5th, it was nice and warm, and the temperature went up to 25C. Just 24 hours later, the next day, we had 20cm of fresh snow and ice, and the temperature dropped to -3C.

This cold wave will last for a couple of days, and then the temperature will go up again
