What's the weather where you are?

The same happened in Macedonia. On Saturday, April 5th, it was nice and warm, and the temperature went up to 25C. Just 24 hours later, the next day, we had 20cm of fresh snow and ice, and the temperature dropped to -3C.

This cold wave will last for a couple of days, and then the temperature will go up again
Unpredictable April weather. In Romania these snows were called the lamb snows as they preceeded Easter but occurred after the lambs were born, usually in March.

Another record is set in Moscow. Weather records have obviously become frequent recently.
On May holidays, the capital broke the 116-year-old record for precipitation

On the night of May 2, Moscow and the Moscow region were covered by an abnormal snowfall for this time of year, which broke the historical 116-year record for the amount of precipitation. Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading expert of the Phobos weather Center, said this in his Telegram channel.

As the weather forecaster noted, an unprecedented amount of snow fell in the capital region. The rampant disaster caused trees to fall, cars to be damaged, and power lines to break. So, 22 mm fell on Balchuga, 28 mm in Tushino, which is 40-45% of the monthly precipitation rate, Tishkovets said. At the same time, the expert added that in the Moscow region, from 20 to 27 mm of precipitation was recorded, which significantly exceeds the record of 1909, when 21 mm fell.

Later, Tishkovets reported that, in addition to Moscow and the Moscow region, abnormal snowfall also affected the Kaluga, Yaroslavl and Tver regions.

В Москве очередной рекорд. Погодные рекорды стали очевидно частыми в последнее время.

We had the first thunderstorms today before and after a front went through. Nothing big, more like smaller showers with some lightning and rain.

Very early spring !
This year’s spring came very early to Stockholm as the trees in front of our balcony started to unfold their leafs already around 13-14 April !! Usually they do that in average around 1 May - and had a light tendency to later dates in the past 10+ years.

This time i am sure the early spring was caused by two shorter but warm periods we had with temperatures close to 20°C already in the beginning of April.

Therefore many of the early trees are now light green and lush - while cherry trees are in full bloom together with many flowers, too.

This morning at the train depot, i noticed how the air had this typical, beautiful and rich springtime scent - like an ocean of flowers everywhere in the air. Oh man, what a delight !!!

Soon it will get a lot colder, though. At least for a while.

"funny" weather here in Stockholm.

While we barely exceeded 5°C today, it got up to 22°C warm in Gulsvik just a couple hours ago towards evening - just north of Oslo in Norway. Even the Southwest of Sweden benefit from higher temperatures up to 19°C. But Stockholm (and the North of Sweden), just felt rainy, gray, dull and COLD. Actually, North Sweden, Stockholm as well North Finland were the coldest areas in Europe today.

This is not really unusual. I have in Stockholm since 2011 often documented snow showers falling sometimes during the first 10 days of May almost every year. A phenomena i didn't observe since May 1984. Today it didn't come to that. But the MAX is around 11°C below average.

I was just visiting this thread to mention something about this. On Tuesday the temperature in Stockholm was 7 degrees but the weather report said “feels like 0”! There is an icy feeling to the air, feels very strange. Flowers that come in mid summer (buttercup for example) are already out. The winter was very mild so I guess that is why the flowers are early. I hope it gets warm soon😬

We are having a bit of a spring drought in the UK. We had a very wet winter but we don't have sufficient reservoir capacity in the UK so the water doen't hang around long after it has stopped raining. The farmers are starting to be very concerned. The temperatures are reasonable for May but no sign of rain in the weather forecast for the next week. Last spring was so wet the farmers were losing large amounts of crop. Now the reverse applies. My lawns look like they would at the end of a long hot summer.

Hello everyone,
On Wednesday, here in Alicante, we had heavy rain which dropped some hail. The roads where very difficult to access with about 15 to 20 cms water. Amazing how fast the rain accumulated in street. Impossibility to have proper vision in car and noise incredibly high of the rain and then hail dropping down. Unreal, it was! It didn't last long, about 45 min.
Catastrophe waiting to happen with lack of sewers.
All is back to "normal " now sun shining!
This year we have had rain very regularly and this place is getting greener everywhere year... beautiful! A little picture of cactus with flowers which I never used to see around.

A paper in the South of France, La Depeche reported about a storm on Monday evening May 19, and the first hours of Tuesday.
Among these impacts, one of them particularly caught the attention of Keraunos, a design office dedicated to forecasting and monitoring the risks associated with thunderstorms: 'There were 50,000 lightning strikes in France yesterday, says Emmanuel Wesolek, the president of this organisation.Of the 50,000, there were 7100 lightning strikes. And of the 7100, only three have exceeded 300 kA'. The most powerful was recorded in Lavaurette, at 516 kA. A second took place in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, and was estimated at 482kA.

The power of a lightning bolt is normally around 30 kA, which is almost 15 times less. These two lightning strikes are clearly well above the norm!

Without being unprecedented, this intensity remains quite rare: 'These are lightning bolts that really stand out from the crowd', sums up the specialist.
In the same general area some places were flooded.

REPORT. Storms in the South-West: 'I have lost 70% of my turnover...'Hammer blow on the farmers of Tarn-et-Garonne
[...]
'My grandfather is 80 years old, he has seen big storms, but never of this force'. The Tarn-et-Garonne is still in shock after the violent storms of the previous day. The rain, which fell quickly and in very large quantities, left behind a devastated landscape, ravaged fields and stunned farmers. Here in Bioule, several farmers have lost everything, or almost everything.

'In ten years of installation, I had never seen this. In total, I lost about 70% of my turnover. I don't know what to do yet.' On Étienne Prunes' farm, no less than 197 mm of water fell in the space of four hours. Armed with boots, he sinks into his cornfield, sinking a little deeper into the loose soil with each step.
Destructive storms: the Minister of Agriculture goes to the bedside of the victims on Wednesday in the Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne
Annie Genevard, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, will visit the Occitanie region on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, 48 hours after the storms that sowed desolation in several departments. She chose to visit two farms in the morning, first in Bioule in the Tarn-et-Garonne and then in Lautrec, in the Tarn, where the hail chopped up plots of pink garlic.
Signs of the Times?

Interesting that no one from the UK has written on this thread yet since spring started.

We are having a gloriously sunny and mostly dry spring. The weather is not as miserable and grey as it usually is. Long may it continue that way. 🙏
We have had in Alicante, Spain more rain than ever I can remember for the last 20 years! The plants don't mind it. The paysage is beautiful, colourful. But the houses built here are not made for cold or wet weather. Even the streets, with lack of sewage can't deal with the extra rain. It all runs down to the sea (better not be on the path)

Like in the UK the weather has been gorgeous in The Netherlands, but it hasn't rained properly for weeks and weeks and so the soil where I live is quite dry. It has rained a bit, with a bit of hail these past few days, but we need more rain! The chamomile in my garden and the leaves of other plants and grass already turned yellow.

Northern Argentina and Paraguay had one of the biggest storms in many years about a week or two ago - the wind caused some damage, though it is nowhere near what hurricanes do (of which South Anerica gets basically none).

This week we will have a drastic drop in temperatures from 18-28 degrees now to 6-13 degrees due to a cold front from the Antarctic.
