in s west irreland storm floris has been a bit of a nothing burger altho I did hear of some power outtages in the north west !
sunny and fresh here today -a hint of autumn in the air !
 
We had a small electrical storm last night, flashes of lightning and peals of thunder, and temps have been moderate. However, for the rest of this week we've got a mini heatwave, much hotter today for sure. This is not my ideal weather, but at least we're not getting rain, which I find so depressing mostly. I've drawn the curtains and opened the windows in my study, so I can deal with the heat as best as I can!:lol:
 
The heatwave hasn't been too bad. We've had regular winds and breezes coming in from the Irish sea, so temps have been hot but tempered. Living within 7 miles of the coast has its benefits. We're really not getting much rain however, most days in a week are totally dry. No hosepipe ban implemented as of now. Sleeping is tricky, I sweat in bed till 6am, and get no rest. Then I usually fall asleep at 6.30am till 12pm. I feel tired upon waking, and need a very strong black coffee to get me going. I'm looking forward to autumn already!:lol:
 
There are 2 periods in the calendar year where I become vulnerable to catching colds, springtime and autumn. Just like clockwork, in the last few days the temps have dropped 7-8C, and the air has become fresher. And I've gone down with a stonking head cold, sneezing myself silly today! I can barely feel my nose, it's gone numb with all the sneezing. But the temperature change has been welcoming, it was getting hard to sleep with the heatwave. Now I just have to recover from this damn cold....:lol:
 
The temperature has been a little cold in the morning, around 14°C rising to 28°C in the afternoon here in Mason, Ohio.

Two days ago we had the first snow in Macedonia. Temperature plunged from almost 30 C to max 4 C . During the night it was only 1C. I dont remember a snow so early. Todsy was a little sunny and max temperature was 8C.

Winter came a little early this year.
 
I wasn't able to get a photo because this happened too quickly, but at about 10:00 a.m. (MST) this morning (-9 C) I was getting ready to shovel snow when I looked up and saw a short bright rainbow above. I quickly looked at the clouds and noticed that a skypunch had formed directly above our city (Camrose, AB). I looked a little harder and noticed that there was also a second smaller refraction with slight noctilucent cloud 'below' the larger one. I couldn't even see the sun yet as it was still low to the south and covered by cloud. I talked to a neighbour and he said it had been going for a few minutes, so it lasted, maybe, 4-5 total. Very cool.

As many other members have noticed, we are experiencing early winter, early snow, and breaking cold records...
Here in Montreal (Qc, Canada), it's a harsh start. Last winter was much milder. The whole month of November has been cold, with temperatures below the normal averages, as well as repeated early snow that stuck. The trend continues for December.

According to the weather network:
  • Montreal could experience its coldest day since February 2023;
  • An active weather corridor will bring several light snowfalls;
  • The week will be very cold, like the middle of January.
Starting tomorrow, after Sunday's system passes, a new wave of Arctic air will sweep across Quebec. This Monday could be the coldest day in Montreal since February 25, 2023, with a high of -13°C forecast, the lowest in over two years.
Tuesday will offer a very relative respite: the mercury will rise slightly, but will remain well below seasonal norms.

So strange...
Yesterday evening, my husband Sal and I sat on the subway on the way to meet a colleague of mine for pizza - as a guy who sat next to me, started to talk with us. He had just arrived NSW from Australia 3 days earlier in order to live in Stockholm with his Swedish fiancée. Showing us pictures of the wildfires, e.g. his parents (? or his) home just had started to go up in flames... He was clearly worried of the situation in Australia. Everything... kind of came out of the blue; the whole situation. (the fires, as well the sudden conversation with a stranger on the subway).

Speaking of weather - here in Stockholm we have had very mild weather, gray, dull overcast, barely any sunshine - and often get rain or drizzle most of the time. We did have a short period with 3-4 cm snow, which was part of a 2 weeks period in mid-/end of November with colder than normal temperatures. But that was about it.
