Both. It's a diploma by experience/work placement and educational course.

And now, we can really laugh : a diploma for farming.
How absurd is it, no?

I guess so but in my opinion, anything that gets more people into sustainable farming is good! Good luck with it, I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

Good stuff.

it's not as absurd as one would think. In Canada, we have a long tradition of agriculture education and have several agriculture colleges, as well as various colleges and universities offering agricultural programs. Most farmers nowadays are highly educated in all aspects of farming, ranging from soil science to animal husbandry, from tax and labour law to business management.

In fact, Wikipedia has a list of agricultural universities across the world at _http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_agricultural_universities_and_colleges

What I thought was absurd was Plymouth University (UK) offering a BSc (Hons) in Surf Science and Technology or Southern Cross University (Australia) offering a Diploma of Sport Management (Surfing Studies), but I'm apparently out of touch.

Lots of strange studies out there. I heard of somebody taking their Ph.D. on the subject of "how gossip spreads in African villages".

I am a home-maker and home educator. I used to work as a teacher of languages for a couple of years and worked as a temp (secretary) for several cooperations. I did not want to become that teacher that only knows the world through school.

I do not have to work ATM, although I have thought of doing a course in counselling. But I have decided to do self-study instead. That is why I am working my way through the QFS reading list. Far more interesting. ;)

Hello everybody,

Finally got a (real) job! After an 18 months long research yesterday morning a phone call for an interview one hour later, wasn't really ready...Apparently I've been good since two person, including me, have been chosen among ten others. It's some kind of receptionnist in the county rest-home, 3km far from home by path downhill accross the woods, half-time work which is really ok because we've started to raise two lovely black pigs, a future mother and her (castrated) brother since March and it's some work too!

BUT, when I went back there in the afternoon to sign all the papers, contracts and so on, the manager asked me to provide a vaccination certificate for infectious hepatitis, bcg and dt polio which of course I haven't and certainly never will. It's like eating pork for a true muslim, maybe worse !So, all night long I felt like a huge splinter in my gut making impossible to relish my joy at the perspective to struggle, again, and being obliged to cheat and lie, which I still don't know how.

Anyway I would like again to thank the Universe for this NetWork which greatly helped me all along these last months to fight against my uselessness

Great to hear Don Diego!

I have no diplomas private individual, if it is not the one of graphic designer, whom I obtained by following a training a few years ago (five). Before it, I was for a long time (15 years) management assistant for several multinationals. Even before it, I exercised several jobs as seller (hi-fi material, among others), or still hostess of edge on TGV. I am what we call a self-taught. Then after a grave depression 8 years ago which lasted several years - I worked at this time for a M&A - (Mergers & Acquisition society) when I begun to realize I was not doing something good by working in this kind of Company and I was not following my own way which is certainly not to help to built disaster for other people - I eventually stopped working to gain a salary and decided in agreement with my husband to stay at home and to use the time so freed for more general studies which brought to me to Sott then to the forum. One of the best things which arrived at me in life, unmistakably. I take advantage of it for all to thank you, again.

It appears they are asking employees in any healthcare facility to get certain vaccinations. What a drag. I recently talked to a lady at the cafeteria at my office and she told me they have to get a flu vaccine each year.

I have no idea how to get around these things. Perhaps, if it is against your religion, they are willing to waive the requirement? Just a thought.

Gonzo, this is terrible. And if I remember correctly, you live in Canada? Really, this is a very hard situation. What can people do? Maybe talk to one doctor that will accept to sign that you received the vaccine if in a situation like this? Is there an association in Canada that is against the vaccines? I know there is one here in Spain. Maybe people confronted with this dilemma, job versus vaccines, should contact an association like that. They surely will inform people.

Thanks for the advice Gonzo.
But I really don't want to invoke the religion and make the staff thinking I'm weird or "different" as it's just a 6 months contract and after they 'll see if they 're keeping on me.
For the moment the only solution I have is to scan my sister in law's health book who works in a public hospital where vaccines are required, change the name et voilà! Did this several times for my bank to get mortgages. Hoping that the manager won't ask for the original...We'll see, it means that I won't feel very confortable for a while when I'll start on 27th

Currently working as a Telecommunication Assistant (temp) at the same university and will last for the next seven weeks. I am helping with the replacing/installing all old phones with new ones across the campus.

I'm still working as Telecommunication Assistant and was asked to stay during the duration of the project, and was recently told that when the project completed, I will be transferred over to another group where I will be working with tracing every outlets in all buildings on campus. At least, I have something for now while I'm looking for a job in a library...

So, if they do ask for the original, does this mean you will be causing trouble for your sister-in-law, possibly putting her job in jeopardy? And if I read you right, you also lied to a bank by doctoring her records also? What does she think about this?

It's not a bad thing to show your religious preferences. I doubt they would find it weird, but even if they did, you have a right to follow a religion. If the religion doesn't believe in something, you have a right to work anyway.

If they caused you problems, you have a legal right to religion and can use that in your defense.

To photocopy a card is inviting trouble in case they do investigate. You don't know if they have to declare this to the government agency of disease control or not.

I am currently a maintenance technician in the electro-mechanical field. I like the stability and being represented by a union. Sometimes the work can be strenuous and in very bad conditions (heat cold rain etc) as most of the equipment is outdoors.

I still prefer it, as being stuck in an office all day was not fun for me.

I used to work in the IT field doing network and desktop support. The pay was good, but the instability and forced unpaid overtime was what got me to change fields.
