Very interesting mix of artistic, scientific and technical types here. I wonder if some of you who are unhappy with your jobs or looking for jobs could network with others in your areas for help or even collaboration?

I wonder what a map would look like with little dots for each forum member?

Work as an electronic technician. Worked on digital logic systems, Tv's/Vcr's, stereos, surveillance and ATM systems, and semiconducter manufacturing equipment.

I just want to say that my main work is being Mom - to my natural children and all my "adopted" children. Everything flows from that.

I don’t know what is my job, worked at many jobs, I have a school for florist, working now as some kind of web designer, have many interests like 2D and 3D design, science (astronomy and physics) history of art, history of aviation and mechanical parts for aviation and more. All of that and more were my hobbies or jobs. Trying to be good son, brother and boyfriend, 31 years . . . Living in Belgrade, Serbia (former Serbia & Montenegro, former Yugoslavia, former . . .:))

I think that some kind of online map like that could be done in Flash, where people could click their places, and some statistics would apear.I am not so good in Flash for that though.

The following is a good tool to accomplish that: http://www.zeesource.net/maps/index.jsp

You can make maps of all kinds of things.

Team leader in a beverages factory down under. It's like a big train set with lots of complicated German automated machinery..... terrific fun.

Also look after the Red Pill Press Australia business on my four days off ( I work a 3 x 12 hour shift)

I detail automobiles for a living. Before that I did customer service for a bank. That was a soul crusher!
Well there you go..... Detailing is one of my hobbies. I used to spend a lot of time at autopedia.

Earlier in the thread I posted:

No prizes for guessing how thrilled I was in that occupation. Pleased to announce that as of today, I am a garcon no more: for I have become a man, an organic & healthfoods store-man, helping to promote "naturally healthier ethical shopping"

:) I feel ashamed! The only wash my car gets is when it rains!!!!

I did my soul crushing experience with the military. Frustrating that was. Now I deal with the nursing 'nazis'. Their bark tends to be worse than their bite thank God, and they put the patients first.

I don't but I have experiences in licensing illustrations for t-shirts and other things.
It's tough.
It also depends on your style and experience.
I don't know what you've done before but even with big companies don't expect to rack up thousands unless you've made a name for yourself (aka being a well known designer or being extremely lucky).

Maybe you can test up the waters by sending some designs to small companies but most of them will not pay much (if they pay at all) because if you're not "known" they kinda treat you like they "help you out" which in a way is true if you're beginning (even if you're not a beginner they'll try the lowest price just by habit).

If they start to say something like "We don't pay much NOW but later there will be opportunities" don't do it.
In any case don't sell yourself cheap, it does not help you and neither the business.

Or set-up a website with your works on it and/or sell your t-shirts, that will help you get noticed without being ripped-off.

Here you get an idea of usual quotes in the illustration business but it's for the UK, so there can be huge differences from one country to the next (I wish everyone would follow these quotes especially clients :|)

All this said this is my personal experience about it.
Good luck.

I had worked for many years as a controls technician and maintenance technician, I got laid off in December. Currently, I am doing freelance copywriting. I would like to try hunter-gathering but it doesn't pay too well. :)
