What are you listening to?

Adding a number of songs from Quebec for the French speaking forum visitors and members. Think for some English speaking these will resonate too as music often just speaks in one universal language.

Thanks for sharing those.

Harmonium was such a great group.

I listen to Brahms and Tchaikovsky every day pretty much.... but these two songs are from a band I like very much. I like classic rock also. I listen to allot of stuff but this section is great as it introduces me to new tunes.

"Wheat Kings" - Band: THE TRAGICALLY HIP

Sundown in the Paris of the prairies
Wheat kings have all treasures buried
And all you hear are the rusty breezes
Pushing around the weathervane Jesus

In his Zippo lighter he sees the killer's face
Maybe it's someone standing in a killer's place
Twenty years for nothing, well, that's nothing new
Besides, no one's interested in something you didn't do

Wheat kings and pretty things
Let's just see what the morning brings

There's a dream he dreams where the high school's dead and stark
It's a museum and we're all locked up in it after dark
Where the walls are lined all yellow, grey and sinister
Hung with pictures of our parents' prime ministers

Wheat kings and pretty things
Wait and see what tomorrow brings

Late breaking story on the CBC
A nation whispers, "We always knew that he'd go free"
They add, "You can't be fond of living in the past
'Cause if you are then there's no way that you're going to last"

Wheat kings and pretty things
Let's just see what tomorrow brings
Wheat kings and pretty things
Oh that's what tomorrow brings

"38 Years Old" Band: The Tragically Hip

Twelve men broke loose in seventy three
From Millhaven Maximum Security
Twelve pictures lined up across the front page
Seems the Mounties had a summertime war to wage

Well, the chief told the people they had nothing to fear
Said, "The last thing they want to do is hang around here"
They mostly came from towns with long French names
But one of the dozen was a hometown shame

Same pattern on the table, same clock on the wall
Been one seat empty eighteen years in all
Freezing slow time, away from the world
He's thirty eight years old, never kissed a girl
He's thirty eight years old, never kissed a girl

We were sitting round the table, heard the telephone ring
Father said he tell them if he saw anything
Heard the tap on my window in the middle of the night
Held back the curtain for my older brother Mike

See my sister got raped so a man got killed
Local boy went to prison, man's buried on the hill
Folks went back to normal when they closed the case
They still stare at their shoes when they pass our place

My mother cried, "The horror has finally ceased"
He whispered, "Yeah, for the time being at least"
And over her shoulder on the squad car megaphone
Said, "Let's go, Michael, son, we're taking you home"

Same pattern on the table, same clock on the wall
Been one seat empty eighteen years in all
Freezing slow time, away from the world
He's thirty eight years old, never kissed a girl
He's thirty eight years old, never kissed a girl
He's thirty eight years old, never kissed a girl

Finer Feelings

You can't give to me
Anything
I couldn't get for myself
I have needs as much as any man
And I understand the feelings well

I can still have a true heart
With a free mind
A good life
With a good time

But what is love
Without the finer feelings
It's just sex
Without the sexual healing
Passion dies
Without some tender meanings
It ain't love
Without the finer feelings

I get passionate
Just like you
But I have a little self-control
You just show your selfish attitude
Your emotion leaves me cold

Gamma Ray - Introduction (Illuminati)

Illuminati
You've come to take control
You can take my heartbeat
But you can't break my soul
We all shall be free

Illuminati
You'll never take control
Your new world order
Will lead to none at all
We all stand before you as one
Heaven is for everyone
To be free from the dark

Hour Of Penance - Paradogma

I Rise ...above 'em all
Leading the commons in this war
Against the faith
Blood and dust will wrap
The bodies of the preachers fallen
No rain will wash
Their un-scourged souls
We march towards the dregs
To purify the race from those
Who serve the lie
There's no mercy
From the mortal lords
The sound of lashes shall surround them
Once and for all
I - deny your god
I - deny your dogma
And your beliefs
Erase the signs of the lie
For all the sermos given, for every word
We are coming, and we are one
Until the end

Feeding the ignorance with lies
Betraying the men exploiting human weakness
And dreads they have
To hold their souls
In your hands
Spuriously led
Making them believe
What you need is just
All that they really deserve
Slaves of the flesh
Guilties of sins
That you deviously
Invent as protection from them
Bordered by traps
Sentenced to pay
In this earthly hell!

We march against the faith and superstition
We are the legion of the truth
We come and we will fight until your vile demise
Staring at your downfall

We march against
The fake god celebration
We are the legion of the truth
We come and we will rise upon
The ruins of your desolated empire
We march - we march
We are the legion of the truth
We come, come and destroy the falsehood!
We march - we march
We are the legion of the truth
We come, come and destroy you!
From all the sides
We will launch the attack
There's no trench
That can stop our march
No life after us!
No advise of warning alarm
There's no outwork can resist our strike
No life after us!

CHARLES AZNAVOUR YOU'VE GOT TO LEARN

You've got to learn to show a happy face
Although you're full of misery
You mustn't show a trace of sadness
Never look for sympathy

You've got to learn although it's very hard
The way of pocketing your pride
Sometimes face humiliation
While you were burning up inside
Facing reality is often hard to do
When it seems happiness is gone

You've got to learn to hide your tears
And tell your heart life must go on

You've got to learn to leave the table
When love's no longer being served
To show everybody that you're able
To leave without saying a word

You've got to learn to hide your sorrow
And go on living as before
What good is thinking of tomorrow
Who knows what it may have in store

You've got to learn to be much stronger
At times your head should rule your heart

You've got to learn from hard experience
And listen to advice
And sometimes pay the price
And learn to live with a broken heart

Paddy Keenan and Fred Morrison at Celtic Connections

Two piping legends - Ireland's Paddy Keenan and Scotland's Fred Morrison - in concert at Celtic Connections with a host of musical friends from Scotland, Ireland and Galicia.

Available on the BBC iPlayer until 9:59PM Sat, 4 Feb 2012, if you're in the UK.

Although my musical tastes run the gambit, this tune seems to hit the mark as for the weather and what the country I currently call my home is starting to look and feel like. Welcome to America in the twenty first century.

Rush. Red Sector A. "Lyrics"

All that we can do is just survive
All that we can do to help ourselves is stay alive...

Ragged lines of ragged grey
Skeletons, they shuffle away
Shouting guards and smoking guns
Will cut down the unlucky ones

I clutch the wire fence until my fingers bleed
A wound that will not heal -- a heart that cannot feel --
Hoping that the horror will recede
Hoping that tomorrow, we'll all be freed

Sickness to insanity
Prayer to profanity
Days and weeks and months go by
Don't feel the hunger -- too weak to cry

I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate
Are the liberators here -- do I hope or do I fear?
For my father and my brother, it's too late
But I must help my mother stand up straight...

Are we the last ones left alive?
Are we the only human beings to survive?...

John Prine -Some humans ain't human--Alt.Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zTP9f6poBY

Lyrics:

Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
A few frozen pizzas
Some ice cubes with hair
A broken Popsicle
You don't want to go there
Some humans ain't human
Though they walk like we do
They live and they breathe
Just to turn the old screw
They screw you when you're sleeping
They try to screw you blind
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
You might go to church
And sit down in a pew
Those humans who ain't human
Could be sittin' right next to you
They talk about your family
They talk about your clothes
When they don't know their own a**
From their own elbows
Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony
Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
[Spoken:]
Have you ever noticed
When you're feeling really good
There's always a pigeon
That'll come sh** on your hood
Or you're feeling your freedom
And the world's off your back
Some cowboy from Texas
Starts his own war in Iraq
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
They lie through their teeth
With their head up their behind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
