Illness requesting advice

On Monday I was told not to go into work. My symptoms were headache and body aches pretty much all over.

The previous week I'd started quite an intensive exercise routine so some of the aches I attributed to that. I also had started taking creatine as that seems to assist me on recovering from my muscle soreness.

So on Monday morning I started taking bicarbonate soda just a third of a teaspoon in a glass of water. Also increasing my vitamin C (absorbic acid) a third of a teaspoon every hour. I stopped taking the creatine on Monday aswell. Forgot to mention I also had a tickly cough.

Slept well Monday night but quite s severe headache this morning. I took 2 ibruprofen (also took a 4 ibruprofen yesterday) I've just seen that the advice is not to take ibruprofen do I am aware of that.

I'd also taken my bicarbonate of soda this morning then about 1 1/2 hours later I started vitamin C but increased the dosage. I stopped taking the vit c when I thought I'd reached bowel tolerance. I hadn't eaten much and about 2 hours after my last vit c I had another glass of my bicarbonate of soda.

I did some EE and began to feel much better so about 3 o'clock had some crackers with cheese. Shortly after this I had to rush to the loo a few times which I put down to the high levels of vit c in my system.
Had some tea with my wife and son about 5 and did some chores thought I was on the mend felt good.

About 7 my headache started to get severe after I'd been reading with my son. It was so severe I struggled to move without feeling sick. I went upstairs and fell asleep for an hour. When I woke up felt nauseas and hot. I'd manage to avoid been sick and I haven't taken any more ibruprofen even though the headache is quite bad.

My temperature has been between 35 and just under 35.8 just taken it again and it had risen to 36.8. I'm no longer nauseas but was hoping for any advice on if I should continue with the sodium bicarbonate and vitamin C? I wondered if I'd overdone it today.

I apologize for asking as everyone is caught up with the crisis icluding me. Unfortunately currently I'm not much help to a worried wife and my lovely son who couldn't be more caring. It sounds like work where I've just started a new job will insist I'm off for a minimum of 14 days so I'm signed off.

The cough seems to of calmed down and almost stopped. I've also been drinking some elderberry but not straight from the Berry's as advised in the thread on the forum. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I do not have much of an advice. I just wanted to say that your symptoms remind me of a heavy Detox Reaction I myself once experienced.

Again, I am not qualified enough to give advice, but I can tell you what I would do in this place. Given the information you passed.

I would drastically reduce the Vit C. Instead I would try to find the right dosage of Vit A, Vit D3 and K2. That should lower the detox load while strengthening the immune system. I would also take Magnesium malate and zinc (only if you are sure to have a good copper level; if you are short on copper dont overdo zinc).

Try a grainless, dairyless period. don't overdo proteins, though. And eat a load of good fats. but transition slowly.

With the elderberrys I think a light tea (nothing boiled for minutes or so, just hot water and an amount of dried berries, brewed for some minutes like 3-6) might also help.

I should also mention info take magnesium daily. It’s a liquid ionic magnesium I take before bed and 3 mg melatonin before sleep. I have just added vit D 3 which I started taking Sunday. I am awaiting a delivery of zinc which will be here at the end of the month.

I’ve been thinking it’s a fever/cold never thought of detox so I suppose it’s feasible. I’ve never really suffered with headaches ever. I have been out of shape and I decided it’s time to get back track! I’m probably as heavy as I’ve ever been at present. Maybe I’ve gone at it too hard. I’m nearly 50 so maybe I need to be a little more gentle with myself. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow the aching doesn’t seem to be easing up.

with the magnesium: I would try malate, because it has a kind of "chelating" property to it. ionic magnesium, as i understand it, has the property to free toxins, but as I understand it your body is not able to take the load; you need something to take things out easy and gentle, in form of chelating for example to not harm your body on the way out.
for the zinc. I personally take orotate. all other seem not to suit ME. just to note that-
I am 51, and being gentle to your body in every way is a good advice.

Hi Thebull. Do you have an infrared blanket? I found with aches and pains and or fever, the infrared blanket works miracles. Basically one sweats out toxins kinda like a sauna. Drink lots of water afterward to replenish fluids.

Unfortunately I don't and don't really have the funds spare to buy one.

Definitely ditch dairy products. Take some paracetamol for the headache and other pains. A hot soak in epsom salts or magnesium bath might also help.
I'll keep off dairy but currently we don't have paracetomol as everywhere is sold out. I'll see if I can pick some up today if my wife can get out and maybe some Epsom salts aswell as a bath sounds a good idea.
My temperature seems to have stabilised though I do feel hot now which hasn't happened the previous day's. I haven't broken out onto any sweats yet so fingers crossed that won't hapoen. Thankfully I no longer feel sick like last night. The main symptoms now are i have a throbbing head and aches and pains all over the body.
If this is the virus I'm on day 3 it's the first time I've felt like staying in bed. I feel drained looks like it's a rest day.
I like to get out in the fresh air with my dogs but that will have to wait for now.
A work colleague had symptoms and was signed off work last Wednesday. I'd been out with him on visits so been in the car together. Probably picked it up from there. He has recovered now. It does seem now like a flu virus. Will hopefully ride it out over the next couple of days.

I heard that you can buy one at Amazon for about 150 euros, I don't know whether that is feasible?

Some acupressure points on your head may help against headaches, be gentle though when you begin and finish pressing these points.

When my youngest had the flu and had a nasty headache (one of the symptoms of that particular strain) the only thing he wanted were my hands on his forehead. I sat with him for a while, then he got up and it was gone.

Thanks Mariana I'll try the acupressure points anything that could ease the headache is good.
I wonder if co-codemal could be used instead of paracetamol?

I'm not familiar with co-codemal, but I read that it contains codeine (derived from opium). It seems to be quite strong and is usually advised when regular painkillers don't do the trick (see here). If I were you, I'd call pharmacies (and supermarkets/other stores if they sell them) and ask them if they have paracetamol in stock and if so, if they could put one or two packets away for you to pick up (or your wife to pick up). If there's nothing available, then maybe you can try the co-codemal, especially if you have the lowest strength? But I'd be careful not to take more than you should and not more than 3 days. People can also get addicted to it. Other members will have a better idea, so FWIW.

Hope you recover quickly :flowers:

Thank you I'll start ringing as soon as the shops open. Like others have experienced here the shops have been hit hard in my area. Co codemol will be the last resort.
