Don't Look Up

I've watched it yesterday and all i can say is that it's a good satire, comedy with an astonishing accuracy regarding the behavior, way of thinking, mentality and approach to life by the modern time society that is being led like sleeping sheeple towards slaughter house by the PTB and their minions.

To be honest i've found it pretty insightful and i have been amazed a few times while watching the movie that Netflix filmed and uploaded it on their platform. To me it was like right in your face example how the PTB will treat the plebs when the SWHTF if not much worse than the PTB in the movie.
I agree that it’s insightful, we watched it last it. I thought it was brilliant. Spot on in regards to how it depicts how many facets of society may react to world altering events. The characters were clear representations of real people rolled into one character. For example the CEO of BASH mobile was a mix of Joe Biden (old hair sniffing grandfather), Elon Musk (with visible evidence of Botox and a passion for space exploration as well as trans-humanism), and Mark Zuckerberg (as the socially awkward introvert). Then the ex-porn star female President was a complex of Donald Trump and AOC. It was laugh out loud hilarious. But then there were misplaced shots of the beauty in nature that made you really feel how amazing this world is and how it could be so easily destroyed by natural events. These shots had a strong emotive effect on me.

The algorithms of BASH being able to accurately predict when people would die, represents our programming and how for one character (serving self only) it was uncannily accurate and for another (overall trying to serve humanity) their predicted death was deflected by their free will to live and learn, thus connecting with close friends and family.

I think there were very significant messages and it was very funny, in the way only comedy can tell the absolute truth. It seems like an inspired movie to me, on a subconscious level (or perhaps conscious) it could “wake up” a proportion of its viewers. In the same way the dark romances disguise certain information about the world also.

I highly recommend watching it.

I couldn't see that in the movie. But then I'm probably reading into it what I know opposed to what the sleeping masses believe.
My feeling was that it is supposed to work on several levels including the information about the possibility of a 'big one'. Isn't this the time when the veil begins to lift and tptb must balance their act with occasional truth and concessions however wrapped?
I didn’t think it was a metaphor for global warming either, perhaps for earth changes including climate change if anything.

Netflix's 'Don't Look Up' misjudges the effort to tackle climate change

The Netflix film has set off a debate about whether it's an effective satire of our problems confronting global warming.

Plus

Etc... Climate change / global warming but looks like people see what they want to see when they watch the movie. I suppose that is its beauty (if it had any). Not many movies set off these sorts of debates...

Better yet, listen to the man himself 😜

Oh that’s interesting!
Because to me it does not specifically come across as about people not facing up to climate change.
Rather, I think his opening line is actually accurate that refers to: modern day culture and our inability to hear and listen to scientific truth.
Then the truth they refer to, in the final movie production, is actually left to the viewer to decide.

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. At least the way it was pitched to Leo it was definitely the climate change angle because that's what he is interested in. The meaning could be multilayered and it's made in such a way that people can see many different things in it - as evidenced in this thread 😉.

Basically I don't think there's a right or wrong answer - it's basically what you see it as. Whatever you see it as then that's what it is for you 🙂 but I think it's also interesting to see what others see / think when they watch it. It's just a movie so all meant to be in good fun I think 👌

Ultimately the truth is not fragile, in fact it is strong.
But the human made global warming science is dubious as hell - so Leo is wrong 😱. Plus scientists aren't necessarily purveyors of truth if they are "corrupted" or indeed made a mistake. There's a lot of propaganda being driven by the movie too - at least I think so.

Yep, but I think they have inadvertently made a movie that does not explicitly support global warming science. It actually supports a message of truth.

The initial part of the opening statement made by deCaprio is just about science and the message is correct regardless of who says it or why they believe they are saying it.
The real truth is still not fragile. This movie, going by individual interpretations, simply amplifies ones own beliefs. And if people follow the corrupt science they will end up realising that,“They lied to us”.

That’s why I found the movie so funny and clever as it depicts how messy and easily lead people really are. Rather than saying what the science actually is.

Ohh wow what an interesting observation! I wondered briefly about how the algorithm was totally accurate for one person but basically the complete opposite for another, but didn't think deeply about it, just wrote it off as "movie randomness". What you said makes total sense.

Yeah, I agree. I tell you other things I saw in it

  • The implicit assumption that if "humanity" got it together we'd have overcome the comet. Humanity has never demonstrated (at least as far as I'm aware) that we can overcome such a thing even if we got it together - yes, we'd stand a better chance but it's no guarantee.
  • Humanity's fate always rests on the hands of the few - the average man on the street really has no power to determine his destiny when it comes to such grandiose matters. Esoterically speaking, is this true? Are we subservient to decision makers in such grandiose existential matters?

Ultimately I think the whole movie is a play on authority and authority doing the right thing. It can be seen as a play on collectivism - the "sacrifice" of the individual for the whole. In the world of covid and the great "reset" agenda, I'm very wary of this message of supposed collectivism under the stewardship of "leaders" guided by "scientists".

Also it was a bit weird how they couldn't destroy the comet with the robots but somehow can build a spaceship to travel and land in another planet 22,000 years later - plus cryogenic chambers that allowed them to live for the whole journey. This last sequence of the movie was weird 🤔

Surely it would have been better to go to Earth's orbit, stay there for a bit and come back down again at a safe location on the planet after things calmed down a bit? This is a better solution than flying to an unknown planet 22,000 earth years away lol

Much like the leaders in current times, there is no ‘and then what’. So ultimately the PTB in the movie are guided by “wishful thinking”.

Spoiler alert-(how do I do this?)
For example, the cryogenic science was haphazard as approximately 50% died. Then they never thought of ‘and then what’ after landing. Landing a spacecraft on a planet has been done already. When the robots land to blow up the comet, a significant proportion failed, enough for the plan not to work. So clearly ideas that work in theory but not in real life as many other variables come into play. Sounds resounding like how politically sponsored science operates in the real world.

Sorry mods, I can’t figure out how to fuzz out or do spoiler alerts.

Right with some trial and error I finally got it sorted how to include a spoiler alert.

In case anyone wanted these words:

Dear Father and Almighty Creator

We ask for your Grace tonight, despite our pride

Your forgiveness, despite our doubt

Most of all Lord, we ask for your love to soothe us through these dark times

May we face whatever it is to come in your divine will with courage and open hearts of acceptance Amen

I must admit that I gave it a shot and started watching it, then I got that propagandy feeling of being scolded for not believing in global warming, or not "trusting the science of Fauci" or whatever else and I kind of gave up and turned it off.

And I think I could be wrong here of course, but at some point one of them said something like it's what happened to the dinosaurs, and the following video came to mind, and I felt like the movie was going in the same direction and kind of lost interest, and with Leo Dicaprio being so active in climate activism, I sort of put 2 and 2 together and turned it off.

But after seeing the exchanges here I might, might... give it another shot.
