A Message sent to me by Alexander Putney

Perhaps his intention was to use me in some way? I don't really know. It's very strange. I make no claim to be an 'ambassador' of this forum, or any forum, Potamus. I never have.
 
He's probably just a harmless creep. And you are a public figure. I am sorry to say this but anyone as eloquent as you are and as "gorgeous" at least as far as that image goes will draw the desperate. You are safe, but tune in. Learn. Any time a predator reaches for you, you can hear them immediately. Knowledge protects ... is not a joke!
 
Well, I did think I was tuned in. It raised a red flag for me. I sent the email to Laura and posted it here, to make others aware and see if anyone else had received something similar. Thank you for the kind feedback - and I agree with you> Knowledge does protect and I'm learning more every day. I take it very seriously! Many thanks to you.

Fwiw, think it very strategic letting people know what is going on like this. When people know, they can help with awareness and if needed, act in some way.

It's usually a waste of energy to try to figure out why nutjobs do what they do. It's good you networked about it, since that's how we protect ourselves, but I'd not waste too much energy on this one.

Potamus, I think the above is a little bit creepy and out of bounds. It reads as though you are essentially "hitting on" Lisa. There are ways to be complimentary about other people, but unfortunately the above goes beyond that. What does "tune in" mean? "Learn"? I don't know what any of that is meant to convey. How can Lisa 'hear' a predator reaching for her by "tuning in"? It all reads like a not-so subtle attempt to flatter and charm her and I find it rather creepy.

I agree - it struck me as rather slimy as well - unnecessary flattery with sexual undertones. In fact when I read this,

I thought it applied directly to this post of yours. It's worth thinking about whether or not you intended to send Lisa this not so subtle message and if you didn't, then what's going on that caused you to write it that way?
 
Just an FYI that he sent that message via the contact form that appears on all editor bios on sott.net. That sends it to the recipient (in this case lisa) and also "sott@sott.net".

I agree. Some guy on Lisa's FB page made the same mistake the other day of taking the liberty of being too personal when he was a complete stranger. She handled it pretty well, so peeps in general better watch out, messing with Lisa means big trouble, and not just from her!

I agree with Heimdallr, the post did read in the same way to me too.
 
And for what it's worth , I didn't really appreciate the comment either, Potamus - although I chose not to acknowledge it when I saw it. I try not to kneejerk anymore, to think first and avoid responding impulsively to other people's words. I appreciate that others noticed, so I know it wasn't just me that interpreted it as such. I don't see why my appearance bears mentioning here on this forum in a thread about something totally unrelated. I also don't get the language you used in one of your responses: "WTF posting it to you as if you are an ambassador from here? " Don't really understand why you would say anything like that.
 
Thanks for the suggestion, Gimpy. I'll get that on the Kindle. Anart, I agree with you about not wasting anymore time on the Putney email. It was cleared up for me on page one of this thread. Just wanted to let people know about it. Thank you!
