hGH - Human Growth Hormone

http://www.springboard4health.com/products/hgh/hgh_dr_mike_01.htm

In 1990, an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine quietly launched the field of Anti-Aging Medicine. Daniel Rudman, a hormone specialist in Madison, Wisconsin, had administered growth hormone via injection to a group of twelve healthy men aged 61 to 80 years who had low blood levels of growth hormone and were overweight. After six months the results were startling. The men looked much younger and vibrant, had thicker skin with fewer wrinkles, had significant increases in lean muscle mass and strength, and a substantial loss of body fat. Dr. Rudman observed that the study group were 10 to 20 years younger in terms of biological age and that “...the overall deterioration of the body that comes with growing old, is not inevitable.

Human Growth Hormone (HGH), also called somatotropin, is the most abundant hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland which is located at the base of the brain behind the eyes. The pituitary gland releases growth hormone in pulses eight to twelve times a day with the major pulse occurring between midnight and 2:00AM – the time corresponding to the period of delta or slow wave deep sleep.

The pituitary is regulated by the hypothalamus, a “check and balance part of the brain that is responsive to mood, appetite, stress, blood sugar, and sleep. The hypothalamus secretes growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) to increase the release of growth hormone and somatostatin to decrease it. As we age, there is a progressive decline in growth hormone secretion and an increase in somatostatin.

Growth hormone may prove to be the most effective anti-obesity substance ever discovered because it is the hormone which governs how much fat the body releases from its stores to be burned for energy as well as how much sodium and fluid the body needs to retain to maintain hydration. However, these major functions are not caused by growth hormone itself. Rather, growth hormone stimulates the liver to secrete other substances called insulin growth factors (IgFs) which are similar in structure to insulin. IgF-1, also called somatomedin-C, is the most important of these growth factors. Its potent anabolic or buildup effect promotes the synthesis of new proteins which support growth and healing. IgF-1 is responsible for most of the anti-aging effects attributed to growth hormone.

Hormone production generally declines as we age and growth hormone is no exception. Hormones that have been linked to longevity undergo an almost linear decline with age. The average sixty-year-old body produces about a quarter of the growth hormone it produced at age twenty. After age 60, the aging process accelerates. The skin and underlying connective tissue become thinner, bones and muscles lose their mass, internal organs shrink, and immune response declines – paving the way for the degenerative diseases of aging. Loss of vitality, libido, and mental clarity are also common symptoms. Growth hormone deficiency is not limited to the over-60 segment of the population. Signs of growth hormone deficiency include:

Muscles - Low body mass, muscle strength and stamina
Lipids - Increase in body fat, including abdominal fat; increased LDL and lower HDL
Bones - Osteopenia – inadequate replacement of normal bone loss
Metabolic - Insulin resistance with obesity; hypoglycemia; reduced T4 to T3 conversion
Catabolic - Thin skin, decreased nail and hair growth, reduced connective tissue repair, internal organ shrinkage
Dehydration - Decreased renal (kidney) blood flow, reduced sweat gland production, increased resistance to venous flow, edema
Mental Health - Less energy, depression, lower libido, poor memory, lack of motivation, sleep disorder

Growth Hormone is the only substance known to be capable of actually reversing the signs of biological aging. Studies have shown growth hormone to:

* Restore muscle mass Thicken skin
* Increase hair growth and even restore color
* Increase energy and stamina
* Increase sexual potency and fertility
* Restore size of internal organs
* Sharpen vision
* Improve mental cognition
* Uplift mood
* Deepen sleep
* Boost cardiac output
* Boost immune response

Originally, growth hormone was extracted from human cadavers. Because of the limited availability and potential side effects, the FDA approved injected growth hormone only for children with drawfism. Thanks to modern biochemistry and genetics, human growth hormone is now produced by DNA sequencing of bacteria, making the supply more abundant, less expensive, and far safer.

The standards for growth hormone use have been expanded to include adults with growth hormone deficiency syndrome. This syndrome may loosely be applied to the segment of the population whose blood levels of this life-extending hormone have progressively declined. In the past five years the therapeutic use of growth hormone by physicians engaged in longevity or anti-aging medicine has vastly increased. Early research has been promising and anecdotal reports encouraging. Growth hormone recipients almost universally report a renewal of energy, stamina, muscle mass, general well-being, and...a more youthful body shape. Until recently, growth hormone was beyond the reach of all but the wealthy. Administration was by twice daily injections and cost $1,000 or more per month. In the past year or so, new oral delivery systems have emerged. Two types of oral spray are now available. One delivers a homeopathic level of growth hormone. The other supplies a minute dose of growth hormone in a special polymer base designed to enhance oral absorption. Besides taking supplemental growth hormone there are several natural and effective steps you can take to enhance your level of growth hormone:

* Exercise - Regular, vigorous exercise raises brain levels of enkephalins, the body’s natural painkillers. Enkephalins are thought to be potent growth hormone inducers.

* Fasting - Fasting stimulates growth hormone production, probably by raising the blood level of fatty acids and by inducing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). However, it would be foolhardy to starve ourselves just to cause a transient surge of growth hormone. In studies, Dr. Roy Walford of the UCLA School of Medicine, found that moderate caloric restriction extended the longevity of several species of laboratory animal. The results were repeatedly corroborated in other studies, but the mechanism was unclear until the discovery that fasting raises growth hormone levels. Dr. Walford maintains that moderate fasting – consuming about 30 percent fewer calories than normal – may extend human lifespan substantially.

* Deep sleep - This action may be a lot easier to achieve with the help of a timed-released melatonin. Growth hormone is released in eight to twelve pulses throughout the day with the largest pulse occurring from midnight to 2:00AM, during slow wave or delta deep sleep. The number and amplitude of these pulses declines as we age. Interestingly, the quality of sleep also tends to erode with age. Given these facts, it is easy to comprehend why people who are sleep-deprived experience a decline in immune response, strength, cognitive levels, and overall sense of well-being.

* Secretagogues - The level of growth hormone in the pituitary gland does not actually decline as we age. The problem is an impaired release of growth hormone from its storage sites. Secretagogue are substances that increase the production and release of growth hormone. Although still in the development stage, pharmaceutical companies are racing to produce the first prescription growth hormone secretogogue. Several amino acids (which cannot be patented) are Nature’s secretagogues. Lysine, arginine and glutamine top the list and for reasons unknown, seem to work best when taken with carbonated water. Niacin and tryptophan also exhibit secretogogue properties.

Caution: A healthcare practitioner should be consulted prior to adding secretagogues to your daily supplement regimen because optimum intake varies from individual to individual.

PERIODIC FASTING AND CALORIC RESTRICTION CAN ADD 40-50 (HEALTHY) YEARS TO YOUR LIFESPAN.

(presentation of the anti-aging method)

You can achieve a low-calorie lifestyle in two alternative ways:

(a) Regular (continuous) caloric restriction, the same calorie-level every day; or
(b) Periodic total-fasting days, with normal calorie-level on other days.

Which of these two approaches is better?

Although regular caloric restriction has been proved to be an effective life-extending technique, we in fact strongly recommend you to choose the alternative approach (periodic fasting). Below we set out some reasons for this.

PERIODIC FASTING versus REGULAR CALORIC RESTRICTION

If you are serious about achieving optimum results by means of caloric restriction, there are several important reasons to choose the PERIODIC FASTING method, rather than simply a constant calorie-level each day.

1. Fasting can not only extend the lifespan and have beneficial preventive action, it can also be an effective curative and treatment method. While fasting, the whole organism has an opportunity to cure itself, due to an intensification of natural repair processes. Caloric restriction has not been proven to have such powerful curative benefits.

2. Pleasure of eating. To take an example, if you are aiming for an 1800 kcal daily average and fasting 100 days per year, then on the other days you do not need to restrict yourself to 1800 kcal a day; you can eat a "normal" 2500 kcal ration of daily meals. (You should of course in any case take care to eat healthy, high-quality food).

3. Psychological benefits. After the second day of fasting you normally do not feel hunger; whereas, while on a calorie-restricted diet, it is not uncommon to feel hunger every day. With experience, it is much easier to get used to fasting.

4. Religious aspects. In almost every religion there are prescribed fasting-days. If you are a believer you can fast in accordance with the religious calendar, and experience the spiritual benefits as well as the physical ones.

5. Time saving. While on an ordinary caloric-restriction regime you have to spend time eating meals 365 days per year. But with the alternative method you save that time on fast-days. If fasting 100 days per year, you only spend time eating on the remaining 265 days.
The above site has pages that list scientific papers about fasting related to various disorders. One of them has this comment:

Brain disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases could be prevented by simply eating less, a British neuroscientist has claimed. Dr Mark Mattson, leading a scientific team in the US, found that rats fed on a low calorie diet are less affected by brain-destroying chemicals than those eating normally.

It's well known that high food intake increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer, but Mattson said the findings are "the first to suggest that reduced calorie intake also may help shield the brain".

In the study, reported in Annals of Neurology, one group of rats was fed 30% less food than the control group, and both were then treated with two different brain toxins. One toxin simulates brain damage found in people with Alzheimer's disease and those who've suffered a stroke. The other mimics the brain damage caused by Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases. In both cases, the rats on the low-cal diet suffered much less brain damage, with fewer memory and motor skill deficits compared with that suffered by rats on a normal diet. Dr Arthur Everitt, founder of the Australian Association of Gerentology, said the findings are consistent with previous studies showing the health benefits of caloric restriction.
Fasting also is shown to:

Lowering of the rate of gene damage
Reduction of free-radical production
Enhancement of gene reparation
Enhancement of free radical neutralisation
Enhancement of protein turnover (protein regeneration)
Enhancement of immune response
Enhance elimination of damaged cells
Optimisation of neuroendocrine functions

... and a whole host of other things that seems to be talked about among scientists and doctors who sell these secrets to the rich and famous, but downplay them to the masses.

So, I guess with the coming famines due to global climate change, we'll all get a lot healthier! Something to look forward to!

I also wonder if the interior of our bodies can get like the inside of an iron if you use non-distilled water? Like crusty and corroded?
Good analogy, because the body has to filter and "distill" water for utilization in its cells also. I heard that only chemically pure water is allowed to pass the cell membrane.

Miss Isness said:
It's sufficient to realize how difficult it is to purchase potable, distilled water bottled in 'safe' plastic to get an inkling of an idea.
I think you mean that distilled water and its higher dissolving power can accumulate softening agents possibly contained in plastic bottles. Alan Baklayan, ND, addresses this in his book 'Parasites, the hidden cause of many diseases' (emphasis, mine):
Never underestimate the effect of pure water and its detoxification ability. Especially with regard to severe illnesses which burden your immune system, cancer or other diseases, you should not drink normal tap water or mineral water under any circumstances; you should also avoid water filled in plastic bottles. In my opinion, since water has a highly soluble effect, plastic softening agents are virtually always able to be found in the bottles. Sometimes I even tested benzene in the water from these bottles. Above all, you should take the minimum amount during therapy. I require that my patients drink 2 liters of pure still water per day. Because we particularly put an enormous amount of toxins into circulation through the Bicom resonance, and the body requires liquid quantity to be able to eliminate these toxins; otherwise they would settle somewhere else.
[...]
Tea and coffee are absolutely not included since they are stimulants. You will notice the difference. Especially in the beginning - for ca. six weeks, until the acclimatization period is over - you will have to pass water quite frequently. This is a 'flood-out' effect. Later the body will have this regulation under control, and you will once again acquire your natural thirst; and after these six to eight weeks you will develop the feeling that you really need to drink pure water as well as to eat food normally. Even if it's difficult in the beginning: Try to achieve the stated quantities, your body will thank you for it.
He writes about Drinking Habits in general:
Our body consists of about 65 percent water. One of the greatest dangers is that there is a lack of water in the cellular functions as a result of marginal feeling of thirst and correspondingly less water; and with increasing age dehydration can arise on account of insufficient intake of liquids. This can go so far that even the cell membrane processes decline and ultimately slacken, that the toxins are no longer eliminated as a result of insufficient water supply, and the elasticity of the cells declines more and more. There is no system in the body, no cells and no intercellular cavity which would not be dependent on water. Moreover, we should be aware that the cells constantly lose a bit of water during the ageing of our organism. Thereby the structure of the cells is less fluid, they increasingly crystallize and are less adaptive. But interestingly enough you can perceive that the brain undergoes the reverse process: The brain's water content increases with age. This also shows us that a person can be active and creative, continue to train his/her brain, and therefore still be able to deal with exacting demands. Let's consider some of the tasks of water in the body:

* Supplying all cells and tissue with water in the right quantity and quality
* The regulation of osmotic pressure in the third spaces
* Co-operation in the regulation of the electrolyte metabolism
* The regulation of the acid-base metabolism
* Reaction mechanism in chemical processes
* Solvent in water-soluble substances
* Cleansing of the body
* Transport medium
* Temperature regulation

The average water loss - through respiration, skin respiration, urine and stool - and the water turnover of a Central European amounts to 2.4 liters. This has to be re-compensated by the body via the water in food (e.g. fruit and vegetables) and the water that is created through the metabolism. It follows that the most minimal water intake of an adult should amount to about 1.5 liters per day. The increased output of water through sweating, hard labor, sports, etc. has to be compensated through increased drinking. Normally a stronger feeling of thirst is noticeable. If this is not the case, health disturbances will soon crop up.

An important factor of orderly acid-base metabolism is the optimum pH value of the blood (7.4). The blood is then neutral to slightly alkaline. Metabolic disorders result from deviations from this mean value. The kidney is a factor which ensures this constant. For instance, if it has a latent functional disturbance and this results in diminished water discharge, the pH value sinks, and hyperacidity ensues. That's why water content and acid-base metabolism are closely linked with one another. Since the acid production exceeds the absorption of base in our nutrition and habits, the surplus H ions (hydrogen ions) must be eliminated by the kidneys. If this does not happen, shifts in the acid-base balance arise. This balance is then restored through the other compensation mechanisms. This can be effected through the buffering of the H ions by means of calcium and magnesium, which is above all removed from the bones and teeth. In the worst case, bad teeth and even osteoporosis can develop as a result.

You should know that the so-called drinking water (tap water) we use on a daily basis has to be treated or the water works has to assure us of the drinking water quality. It is contaminated by bacteria, fungi and viruses, as well as by industrially-manufactured toxins - no matter whether they are fungal, weed, snail or insect toxins, or inorganic waste products, such as arsenic, asbestos and heavy metals. In addition there’s also radioactive substances that enter into the ground water, such as plutonium, radium and strontium 90. In order to guarantee the quality there are the so-called limit and guide values, which are valid in Germany and are supposed to guarantee us that no deleterious influences emerge, whereby in some cases (e.g. chlorination of water) the water works are allowed a certain amount of freedom if a danger is looming as a result of bacteria or other contamination. There's not enough space in this book to illustrate the dispute concerning these limiting values. It's certainly an advantage that there are any limiting values at all; according to WHO estimates, about 25000 people die as a result of contaminated water every year in many countries without such control values and control functions.

Nevertheless we must make it clear here that water functions as an energetic information carrier and chemical compound carrier. In this context, bear in mind that we absorb these burdening substances - which are also to be found in the smallest areas - throughout our entire life. Moreover, we must bear in mind that the limiting values for individual substances are fixed, but the interactions of the substances among one another have never been examined.

There is a simple chemical test which many healing practitioners and physicians conduct in their practices, the STS heavy metal test, which provides information concerning how many heavy metals in ppm (parts per million) a liquid contains. In my practice, I offered this test to all patients in order to check the water. But since I have examined the water from more than a hundred different people and without exception had to determine a heavy-metal burden of usually 5 ppm, I now only do so at the request of the patient in order to spare him/her the expenses.

From a biophysical viewpoint, drinking water quality is oriented to three measurable values. The pH value, the RH2 value and the R[esistance] value.

The pH value, the degree of acidity, should lie a bit under 7 in the ideal case.

The RH2 value is the ability of the water to react chemically with contained substances and thereby to reduce; i.e. to gain or to oxidize additional electrons - to release electrons. The lower this value is, the more electrons the water contains. On a scale of 0 to 43, the neutral RH2 value would lie at 28, and a more ideal value would be in the direction of 22.

The R value is the most important value. It is the electric resistance of the water measured in ohm. [He refers here to Ohm-meters, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_conductivity] This is defined by the overall amount of minerals in water. [...] The less minerals the water contains, the higher the resistance; and this value should be far above 1000 Ohm.

Therefore, pure water hardly conducts electricity at all; the electricity can only flow if many ions are in the water. As a comparison: Seawater has the highest conductivity here, followed by some mineral waters. Under this aspect, if they are not individually prescribed on a short-time basis for cure-related reasons, they can have an enormously damaging effect on the body. Pure water has a very high resistance - up to 10000 and 20000 Ohm and more. However, drinking water should have at least 6000 Ohm. Municipal tap water lies at 2000 Ohm and lower. Since it is already charged, it hardly has the ability to bind with wastes in the body; indeed, it is already bonded with minerals, whereby it loses the essential ability to detoxify. Only a few healing and mineral waters have the required value, such as "Haderheckwasser" from Königstein [Germany?], Volvic and Spa from Belgium (this has ca. 17000 Ohm). The best that I've found is the Plose water from the South Tyrolian high Alps with 28000 Ohm. The only alternative known to me is a remote osmosis device that purifies your tap water. It's an expensive investment, but keep in mind that such a device produces about 20 - 25 liters daily. Therefore the investment is soon worth it for a 3-4 head family.

Hello,

The issue of water is something I have researched but I could not reach a decision due to contrary information.

I have tried another detox method. "Le bain dérivatif". You can find in french on Guillain'site (www.bainsderivatifs.fr) some information. Here is some explanation in English.

Detox Bath

An equally powerful water detox method is the Detox Bath.

Based on an ancestral detox technique created by Louis Kuhne of Leipzig in 1883, (who used it to treat his own cancer and heal thousands of often-serious diseases), the Detox Bath uses ONLY water and can take as little as 10 minutes a day.

The Detox Bath's working principle is to refresh the core area of the body (around the groin and genitals) during 10 minutes daily or longer, depending on your initial condition, and the results you seek to achieve. This process creates a vibration in the fascia (Interconnecting tissue covering all internal organs), which sets in motion a roll-back effect that transports digestion's leftover fats and deposited toxins back to the intestines, where they are later eliminated.

Why Is The Detox Bath So Powerful?

Besides its toxin and fat elimination action, the Detox Bath's potency resides in the fact that:

1- It works on the groin area, one of the highest nerve-concentration areas in the body, hence its positive effect on mood, sleep and energy.

2- The groin houses main arteries, so the bath greatly improves blood circulation and digestion. 3- It stimulates the root chakra, which governs sexual energy and reproductive organs. It helps regulate the menstrual cycle, and has been used by Louis Kuhne to treat impotence. It is also beneficial for low libido and menopausal symptoms.

Practiced regularly, the Detox Bath, (based on Louis Kuhne's friction sitz bath) supports the body's elimination capacity, effectively ridding it of toxins and fat. It boosts metabolism and digestion; improves sleep, energy and mood, and promotes clear skin and radiant complexion.
I have tried it for 4 months and there were result.
My stomach was bigger, I was constipated... That phase lasted 3 weeks. then for another 4 weeks I felt terrible. Probably due to the toxins coming out through the colon I had blood all over when I went to the toilets. I'll spare the details...

After this phase I felt much better. I recovered from these symptoms and during the 10 folowing weeks the baths produced no such strong effects but I noticed that I have lost some abdominal fat.

I have had to stop for 6 weeks due to my moving to another place but I will resume asap.

People who practice this technique mention that during the fist 5 years one regularly goes through painful episodes as the deepest toxines are eliminated. They also mention "miracle"results such as hair growing again and grey hair being replaced by normal color hair.
I cannot testify this is true but I trust Guillain whom reports such experience.

This technique does get the toxins moving. One must be cautious of not overwhelming the body's ability to cope with those toxins. Practising an intense activity, the type Gurdjieff mentions, could be a means of preventing problems...

Fasting, Gluten, MSG, Soy, Blood Type Diet

Hi Henry,

If you have a diet that works for you, why change? The point is to help people feel better, not try to dictate how people eat.
Maybe to change for a diet that works even better! I am the kind of person that believes in permanent bettering. I do agree that the point is not to dictate anything to anybody, just reporting techniques, results.... actually networking with, as far as possible , objective datas derived from concrete experiences and not mere reading...

I just finished a 21 day fast. Nothing but water. Now for six days I have been drinking freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices and fresh green salads with olive oil and lime juice, as I ease myself back to eating. I feel like I have some energy for the first time since I am an adult. I lost close to 12 kg.

I'll find out how much of the weight comes back as I build up and eat more.

In any case, I'll be doing it again next spring. It may well become a yearly routine.
Very interesting. I haven't dared yet fast on water. I'll be interested by your feed back on this.

LOL! That's me, too! I am my own favorite experimental subject!

As for my current fast, I'm on day seven and I have had a few recurrent food fantasies. You see, we have a nice little garden this year and my squash (courgettes) are WONDERFUL. Yellow summer squash is one of my favorite vegetables and I can't help but think about them. I also have collards growing, so I am fantasizing now and again about collards and corn bread, summer squash with butter and onions, and black-eyed peas on rice with a bit of vinegar!

Yesterday I helped to make the regular supply of gluten free bread for the house and it turned out SO beautiful! I had to tell myself "nothing is leaving the planet," you can make another batch after the fast is over!

Also, Chu is blanching and freezing the squash and collards for me later! Something to look forward to.

Just a quick note on all of the above articles. One thing that was not brought up is this.

IS WHEAT STILL WHEAT????

I have read numerous articles in regards to the GENETIC ENGINERING that is Secretly and Rapidly taking place with foods. In particular Wheat, Rice and Soybeans. The foods which are considered the Foundation foods for the whole world.

I don't have time at this moment to pull up the extensive articles on this subject, but going from just my memory its been said that as much as 70% of the Wheat and Rice is MUTANT. So mutant in fact that the body can hardly recognize it as a food!!

The body is simply unable to break it down into a usable substance.

REMEMBER IT'S NOT WHAT YOU IN-GEST, BUT WHAT YOU DI-GEST.

You can take in all the food, vitimins, minerals that you want, BUT, the body MUST break it down in a Very Complex DI-GESTIVE process before anything is UTILIZABLE.

Of course the PTB will tell you that they are trying hard to produce a hardier, healthier wheat and rice that is resistant to the attack of insects, molds, fungus, etc to increase crop production. As far as I'm concerned its ALL LIES! LIES AND MORE LIES.

I personally try to eat ONLY [[ORGANIC KAMUT and SPELT]] which are Ancient forms of wheat untampered with by Genetic Enginering.

So is it REALLY the GLUTEN, or is it ALL the other things that have been Insidiously done to the wheat, gluten included???

I just recently had a client at my home that just happened to be a "Genetic Scientist" doing research and working for USC in CA. His story is quite a long one but in short he told me that when he got really deep into the specific programs of using his vaste knowledge of Genetics to improve upon plants, he Realized in Fact it was to really TAMPER with and CHANGE foods; and NOT for the benefit of humanity but to their Detriment. He KNEW something was VERY WRONG, and VERY DARK that was SECRETLY going on and he wanted out of this whole program.

It also turned out, (how convenient) that his Supervising Boss who was head of this project was a PSYCHOPATH. This boss did everything he could to discredit, ruin, tarnish the reputation of my friend who just happened to be from IRAN and in America on a special exhange program. Furthermore the MONEY that was SUPPOSED to be Available for my friend to live on, he regulated and CONSTRICTED to the point that my friend could barely survive. It was determined, that he probably used the money for himself.

Shawn, my friend, being a very nice, easy going, gentle type took quite awhile to catch up to speed about what was really going on. He finally had to go to a still higher department head for help. Another quick side note is that his immediate boss was also working him so hard that he was even expected to Sleep in the lab and to work weekends. In other words NO time off. He was a DRIVING task Master. Interesting HUH?

The scariest part of the story was that Shawn eventually realized that he was actually doing the Research for his PSYCHO boss's PRIVATE, SECRET projects!!! Which had nothing to do with the work he was originally supposed to be working on.

I told Shawn about this website and also about certain Key books on the subject of Psychopaths to help him catch up to speed on EXACTLY what was happening to him.

Just some "food" for thought...

Well, from what I can tell, the blood type diet seems to be a sham. Its biggest problem is that it has no scientific studies to back it up- its all based on anecdotal evidence. Here is an article critical of the diet. What has been said about fasting, gluten, soy, etc. seems to have a much firmer grounding (some science behind them). In any case eating foods of high nutrient density seems to be the best key to health (a good guide is nutritiondata.com). Anyone disagree?

Hi Kesdjan,

I suppose that we will find more than just one article critical of the blood type diet. I can only talk here for direct experience, I was sick with the food I was eating, tried many different diets, having also access to very good and fresh stuff here, so to speak ;-)

By reading D'Adamo's book at some point I've simply discovered a more precise selection of foods to use for the sake of my own health, things and hints that I've had already collected from multiple sources (doctors and kynesiogists) but that weren't really so easy to follow as they were scattered informations and sometimes a bit in contrast between each other concerning vegetables, fruits and spices in particular.

I'm O type and I've tried all that on my skin (also stomach and guts actually!), and all I can say by now is that that list of recommended meals really do work. I can bet that there's also some void here and there, but the 'main prescriptions' here certainly have had a tangible effect, so amazing that I'm literally forgetting what being sick feels like (regarding mounting stress that's a different story though... :)

Fasting, Gluten, MSG, Soy, Blood Type Diet

I have to agree with dantem on this one. What I found most interesting is how most of the foods (not all - but most) that my blood type should avoid are foods I've always strongly disliked anyway. It was rather eerily correct, in my experience, fwiw.

Well, what the guy you cited is saying is actually ridiculous. D'Adamo lays out the type of research that was done which was isolation of the food lectin and then dropping it on a slide with samples of the different blood types to see how it reacted directly with the blood. He wasn't claiming that every single person was going to have the same localization of problems. So, when this guy you cited says:

To convince me, he would need to show me photographs of intestinal tissue from Type O people who have recently eaten wheat and who clearly have evidence of lectin agglutination clogging up the function of their intestinal cells.
... he is like missing the point big time.

The blood type diet for the type O is very similar to the "Paleolithic Diet"

See: http://paleodiet.com/

and: http://www.cassiopedia.org/wiki/index.php?title=Paleolithic_diet

The Paleolithic diet (abbreviated Paleo diet) is also known as the caveman diet, prehistoric diet, Stone Age diet, or hunter-gatherer diet. It is the diet of wild plants and animals that various human species (see Homo (genus)) habitually consumed during the Paleolithic period (the Old Stone Age), a period of about 2 million years duration, ending about 10,000 years ago, when Homo sapiens, invented agriculture. The modern version of this diet uses domesticated sources in lieu of the wild sources of the original hunter-gatherer diet.

Those who advocate that contemporary humans should regularly consume a Paleolithic diet base their advocacy on the premise that natural selection had 2 million or more years to genetically adapt the metabolism and physiology of the various human species to such a diet, and that in the 10,000 years since the invention of agriculture and its consequent major change in the human diet, natural selection has had too little time to make the optimal genetic adaptations to the new diet. According to those advocates, physiological and metabolic maladaptations result from those suboptimal genetic adaptations, which in turn contribute to many of the so-called diseases of civilization.[1]

Those considerations give rise to a simple theme for adhering to a Paleolithic-type diet in modern times: if a food item resembles one that can be found in the wild, obtained with bare hands or simple tools, and ingested immediately without cooking, processing, and by simple preparation (i.e., peeling, cracking, washing, etc.), and cause the consumer no ill effects either during or after consumption, then it can be considered edible, and therefore permissible to eat. Any food meeting this standard can then be cooked and prepared by the simplest means that are practical and consumed in modest quantities. Food exclusions comprise those introduced in the human food supply late in the course of human evolution, in particular after the invention of agriculture about 10,000 years ago: cereal grains, legumes and dairy products.

According to S. Boyd Eaton, M.D., an "evolutionary nutrition" expert from Emory University: “We are the heirs of inherited characteristics accrued over millions of years; the vast majority of our biochemistry and physiology are tuned to life conditions that existed prior to the advent of agriculture some 10,000 years ago. Genetically our bodies are virtually the same as they were at the end of the Paleolithic some 20,000 years ago."

Supporters of this theory argue that human genetics have scarcely changed since the Stone Age, and therefore that an ideal diet would be a reconstructed prehistoric diet such as the one humans and proto-humans used before the Neolithic Revolution. Therefore through studying archeology and modern hunter-gatherers it could be determined what a healthy diet would comprise. Interest in Paleolithic nutrition has grown in recent years as low-carbohydrate diets have become more popular, as the two practices have certain similarities.

This dietary concept is concerned primarily with health issues, as opposed to ethical or economic concerns. Advocates of the Paleolithic diet believe that the best foods for the human body are those that humans are best adapted to eat, arguing that many modern ailments are diet related and can be avoided using the Paleo diet approach. [...]

The benefits of a Paleolithic diet are, as with most dietetic theories, widely debated.

There are however a number of medically diagnosed conditions whose sufferers have been shown to benefit directly from specific components of the diet. Some examples of this include:

* Coeliac disease, a gastrointestinal disorder whose sufferers are unable to digest the protein gluten, found in wheat.[8]
* Dermatitis herpetiformis, a skin disorder linked also to digestibility issues related to gluten.
* Gluten ataxia, a common neurological manifestation of gluten sensitivity.[9]
* Other conditions linked anecdotally,[10] albeit unproven, to gluten and/or casein proteins include
o Multiple sclerosis
o Parkinson's disease
o Rheumatoid arthritis[11]
o Schizophrenia
o Tourette syndrome
o Chronic fatigue syndrome
o Attention deficit disorder
o Autism

Other key health benefits commonly associated with and supported by this theory include:

* Reduction or elimination of grains, dairy, and refined sugars in the human diet has shown to lower glycemic load. This is thought to lower risk of diabetes and other related syndrome X diseases by placing less stress on the pancreas to produce insulin, and preventing insulin insensitivity.
* Increasing intake of fruits and vegetables induces a net base load, as opposed to the net acidic load on the body when eating a grain based diet. This is believed to prevent osteoporosis by passing less calcium salts through the kidneys.
* Animals that have been fed a pastural diet (free-range beef and chicken) instead of grain fed animals tend to have higher ratios of omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients.
* By reducing the intake of processed foods the sodium/potassium ratios in the body are more balanced. [...]

Phytic acid, a chemical present in grain, is a strong chelator of important minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. It, in essence, 'binds up' these minerals, and since humans lack the digestive enzyme phytase required to break this bond, these important minerals are not bioavailable, contributing significantly to mineral deficiencies. This problem is increased when dietary mineral supplements are not available, such as in developing countries.

High reliance upon cereal grains is likely to yield a positive NEAP (Net Endogenous Acid Production) that in turn could increase the risk for osteoporosis, and other diseases of acid/base imbalance.[12][13]

A high consumption of cereal grains, even whole grains, is likely to result in a high glycemic load diet, which in turn increases the risk for Obesity, Diabetes and other diseases of the metabolic syndrome.[14][15]

Lectins present in cereal grains and legumes have the potential to cause auto-immune diseases, like rheumathoid arthritis, by a process called molecular mimicry (similarity of structure shared by products of dissimilar genes).[16][17][18]

Milk and dairy products were not consumed prior to the agricultural revolution, i.e. prior to the domestication of milk-producing animals.[19] Mature lactose tolerance is perhaps the most recent evolutionary change in humans, a phenomenon unique to humanity; it evolved independently in several regions (as noted above), but is not a universal trait in modern man -- although fermented dairy goods tend to be more readily digestible than unfermented.

Dairy products have been very valuable historically (in post-Agricultural-Revolution times) as a cheap and reliable source of protein, particularly in Europe, the Middle East, and India, but they, especially those derived from cow's milk, are more or less correlated with a variety of health issues, including type 1 diabetes,[20] prostate cancer,[21] multiple sclerosis,[22] and Crohn’s disease.[23] They also don't always make life any easier for Type 2 diabetics: milk, yoghurt, and cottage cheese have low glycemic indices but are highly insulinotrophic, with an insulin index similar to that of white bread.
Okay now, update on the fast: today is day 10. Yesterday was pretty awful. I felt like I had the flu. Aches and pains in the legs, lower back, fogginess in the head; felt like I was moving through molasses. On top of that, the girls and I were preparing a couple of large quantities of my beloved collard greens and beet greens for the freezer. It was almost more than a body could bear! I just kept telling myself that "nothing is leaving the planet, it will be there when the fast is done!" Of course, the very fact that I felt so lousy let me know that I was detoxing in a major way and that what I was doing just had to be done, so might as well get on with it. So, the collards and beet greens are in the freezer and today we will be doing squash again. I figure that, after the fast is over, it will take me about a week of diluted fruit juice, regular fruit juice, and fruits before I am ready to move to vegetables. But when I am, I think I'll go on a daily diet of collard greens and squash!!!

Today, I am feeling much better and clearer in the head. I think I'm going to arrange for a colonic in the next week.

It was rather eerily correct, in my experience, fwiw.
It seems it was totally opposite in my case, this is what I wrote months ago on Who likes Brussels sprouts thread:

According to this diet I should avoid oats at any cost and really I cant start the day without oats.

Not to mention the milk and dairy products, sometimes I drink 1L per day.

Or I couldnt possibly imagine never again eating octopus, cashew nuts , brazil nuts, olives, cantalope and strawberries. And so on and so forth.
In short these are all foods that make my body feel good.

I am 37 and I never had any health problems. Actually I noticed that oats have beneficial effect on my digestive system.

Also I find it difficult to beleive that strenous exercise is to be avoided by all blood types other then O.

Therefore it would be interesting to hear what kind of logic and research was employed when this blod-type diet was invented.
and as far as Dadamo goes this was my impression

I just browsed a bit around this Dr. Dadamo's site

and I have to say I am far from being convinced, no actual research data, no proper explanation of principles, but plenty of gadgets to purchase :(

Is this just yet another fad diet?
I think there is definitely something in this blood type diet but we need more specific data and more proper research ,
guys like D'adamo are just fishing in murky waters as they say in my country.

May I ask how you do that? Seems to be a huge topic for itself!

I got some useful information from here:

Thanks for this link Henry. I've got some spare time up my sleeve this week, so I'm doing a 4-5 day water fast with a bit of herbal fasting tea as well. Not really long enough for a serious detox, but I'm hoping it will be a short "pause that refreshes".

You might need the same too (more data, more research) about yourself. For example, what do you know about body changes that come with age? You're only 37, so you have limited data about you. Point being that in 10 years your perspective might be completely opposite of what it is now. Age does strange things to the body that aren't necessarily expected... some forms of 'abusive diets' take decades to manifest as noticeable damage.
