All About Fasting

try it out!

I’ve never made it past 6 days. I’ve long wanted to try a very extended fast.
I read a book years ago by Herbert Shelton who recommended we fast as many days as we are old in years once every year… I can imagine we’d all feel awesome if we could do that.
Yeah I was pretty happy with myself when I managed to do 7 and then I spoke to someone online who claimed they did 40!

I’ve seen a lot of those claims too. Believable enough.
I’ve read lots about fasting, I think it’s probably the panacea for health for many, if not all people.

This story below is not isolated, I’ve looking into long term fasting clinics, I just don’t have a spare 30k to visit one for a month.

Engaging lecture with some amazing new insights on benefits of fasting

Take away messages - fasting is good on multiple levels, insulin regulation, inflammation, autoimmune disease, gene expression, rejuvenation.
If you want to maintain health even restricted eating is beneficial or intermittent fasting , magic starts at 36h.
Be careful how to break the fast.
Funny, I was re-reading through this entire thread (as I'm currently on Day 4 of a fast) and saw this video.
This same guy (first time I'd heard of him) popped up on my YouTube feed today with a very interesting video:

My fasting goal this time is 14 days. Then I will go back to my OMAD carnivore eating for a while (eventually back to keto IF). The goal is losing weight but also a reset of my system (physical, mental and spiritual) as I haven't been eating properly for a little while and going through some big psychological changes (for the better). I have a bit of downtime atm so it's a perfect time to do it.

I'm having just water, salt, black coffee and green tea but I learned a lesson today about matcha. I was fine when I had it later in the day after coffee but this morning I had it first and it gave me some painful cramping in the colon. Aside from my body being much more adapted to coffee (they both stimulate acid) I read that coffee has bitter oils that slow caffeine hits and the roasted compounds trigger mild adrenaline release which can counteract nausea for some people. Green tea (and especially matcha which is the whole tea leaf ground into powder) is rich in tannins and catechins which are sharper, can bind to stomach lining proteins and irritate an empty stomach. I will have it later in the day or switch it out if it hurts me again with something like peppermint/chamomile during this fasting period.

I plan to break the fast on Day 15 with just a cup of bone broth. Then the next day I will have bone broth + 2 boiled eggs. Then the 3rd day I will reintroduce some steak.
