There is a famous french saying from Pierre Desproges:

"il ne faut pas désespérer des imbéciles. avec un peu d'entraînement, on peut arriver à en faire des militaires. "

that can be translated into:

"Do not despair of stupids. with a little practice, one can make them military."

It does correlate with militarization.

Well you know how those over-confident hospitality managers say that give them donkeys and they can still train them to waer aprons and serve drinks - often turn out to be the best obeying employees.
Apply that to the military - hire psychopaths and let them train imbeciles

While this is true that you are not expected to know everything geography and politics-wise but really have they ever looked at the Earth-globe model at school. One day, I opened up the world map and spent 2 hours on it looking at various countries and places because I found it entertaining and just wanted to know for knowing sake. Even every now and then, I'd take a peak at Google Earth!
