British #FakeNews - false reports of Russian Ambassador Assassinated in Yemen
http://www.fort-russ.com/2017/01/british-fakenews-false-reports-of.html

Reports began circulating hours ago in British media, such as the UK Express and Sun, that armed gunman had stormed the Russian embassy in Yemen, killing the Russian ambassador.

Barq news agency from the KSA had claimed that ambassador Vladimir Dedushkin, ambassador to Yemen since 2013, was shot in Sanaa, Yemen. This story was then carried by several British media outlets.

The reports went viral on social networking platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, a popular method that mainstream media outlets use for the dissemination of their standard 'fake' news stories. Over the last several decades these types of stories have led the building of popular support for wars based on faulty premises. These wars have led to the deaths of millions of innocent civilians.

Fort Russ News contacted the Russian embassy in Belgrade at 3pm CET for confirmation of the story. Fort Russ was told that no one at the embassy in Sanaa had been killed, let alone shot. Furthermore, there had not been any attack, according to them. We were unable to get further confirmation or denial from Yemeni authorities at the time of publication.

But this raises the question of how the false story was leaked and spread in British media earlier today, drawing a connection to the 'fake news' hype circulating in the west.

One likely scenario based on prior experience, is that media handlers, close to Saudi media outlet Barq, working with the would-be attackers, leaked a success story before they had actually succeeded.

This attempt comes on the heels of similar incidents in recent weeks.

Recall that last month a Turkish policeman murdered a Russian ambassador as he gave a speech in Turkey’s capital, Ankara; last week a second top Russian diplomat was found dead at his home in Athens for reasons still under investigation.

We also recall that Russian FM spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a public statement recently that in closed door meetings, the US delegations had threatened Russia with retaliation and 'pain' for its campaign to liberate Syria from the foreign invasion.

Andrei Karlov was shot and killed at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara on December 19. Three more people were injured in the shooting. The gunman was killed at the scene by the police. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it considered the attack a terrorist act.

"It was a very very difficult decision, but in the end we felt that the picture of the Year was an explosive image that really spoke to the hatred of our times. Every time it came on the screen you almost had to move back because it’s such an explosive image and we really felt that it epitomizes the definition of what the World Press Photo of the Year is and means," Mary F. Calvert, a photographer and a member of the jury, said as quoted in the press release.

The World Press Photo is an non-profit organization based in the Netherlands, famous for its annual competition for the best photograph.

The Russian Embassy in Ankara told Sputnik on Monday it requested additional information regarding the detention of a female Russian citizen allegedly linked to the suspected assassin of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov.

"Due to the latest media reports, the embassy sent an official inquiry to determine the causes, the date and circumstances surrounding the detention of the Russian citizen. So far, the embassy has not received a response," embassy spokeswoman Irina Kasimova said.

Ekaterina B., 33, is thought to have maintained telephone contacts and exchanging WhatsApp messages with off-duty police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas into late November, according to Turkish media.

Altintas shot Karlov at the opening of an art gallery exhibition on December 19, an act Moscow regards as a terrorist attack, and was killed by police at the scene.

Kasimova said both Turkish and Russian citizens have been taken into custody and questioned in the course of a joint investigation following Karlov's killing.

Mevlut Mert Altintas, who killed the Russian ambassador to Turkey in December, had close relations with a Turkish Mufti (religious leader) that was backed by Abdullah Muhammad al-Muhaysini, a Saudi national and the religious leader of Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at (the Levant Liberation Board).

Al-Muhaysini had on many occasions urged his followers to study the works of Turkish Mufti Nouralddeen Idlidiz.

Al-Muhaysini, in a video, had called on his Turkish followers that had gone to Syria to fight against the Syrian Army to study Rasa'el Ramadhaniyeh written by Nouralddeen Idlidiz.

Well-informed sources have recently claimed that the assassin of the Russian ambassador to Turkey had very good relations with Nouralddeen Idlidiz in Ankara.

Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was gunned down on December 2016, while he was delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition. According to Turkey’s authorities, the attacker, named Mevlut Mert Altintas, was immediately neutralized by security forces.

According to reports, 22-year-old Altintas, who was a member of the riot police in Ankara, yelled "Don’t forget Aleppo. Don't forget Syria" over the fallen Russian ambassador at the Museum of Modern Art in Turkey.

Russia has begun an aerial campaign against the terrorist groups, including ISIL and Al-Nusra Front, in Syria since September 2015 at Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's request

Numerous rumors have also linked the assassination of Moscow's envoy to Russia's role in Syria and the country's support of Damascus government.

The Turkish Security Service announced January 2017 that its investigations proved that assassination of Russian Ambassador to Ankara was planned by Altintas from months ago.

Crime inspectors disclosed January 2017 that Altintas was not alone in conducting the crime as the inspectors discovered that he had several partners when planning terror operations of Karlov.

The paper wrote that the Altintas' partners entered his mail box and deleted all his emails, while media sources disclosed that only two hours after Karlov's assassination, the entire emails of Altintas were deleted, proving that Altintas had some partners.

The arrest comes nearly a year after the assassination of former Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov.

Turkish Media Head Arrested Over Alleged Links to Russian Envoy Murder - Reports 25.11.2017
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201711251059422861-turkey-media-arrest/

Guru Media Broadcast Group Chairman Hayreddin Aydinbas, who had been detained earlier this week for alleged links to Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen's movement, referred to as the Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), was remanded into custody on Friday over alleged links to the murder of Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov in December 2016, the Anadolu news agency reported citing a judicial source.

Following the interrogation by a prosecutor from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, he had been taken into custody in line with the decision of a criminal court, the agency said.

Aydinbas confessed that he had links to FETO, but claimed that had broken away from the organization back in 2008.

According to Turkish media, Hayreddin Aydinbas also acted as a director general for "Eurasian House" organization that held a conference on Russia-Turkish economic relations in 2016 in Moscow, attended by Turkish Ambassador to Russia Huseyin Dirioz.

Andrei Karlov was shot by an off-duty Turkish police officer named Mevlut Mert Altintas at the opening of an art gallery exhibition in Ankara on December 19, 2016, with three people being injured in the shooting, and the gunman being killed at the scene by law enforcement. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated it considered the attack a terrorist attack.

Following the assassination, a chief advisor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the crime was affiliated with the Gulen movement.

ANKARA - The head of a Turkish media group was remanded in custody on Friday evening in capital Ankara for his alleged involvement in the assassination of Russian Ambassador Andrey Karlov, according to a judicial source.

A criminal court remanded Guru Media Broadcast Group Chairman Hayreddin Aydinbas on charges of "association in plotting manslaughter", the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.

Aydinbas gave his testimony to Adem Akinci from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.

Karlov was shot and killed in Ankara on Dec.19 during an art exhibition when he was delivering a speech.

Turkey-Russia relations were tested after the assassination. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tukey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared the shooting a "provocation" designed to undermine bilateral ties.

A year after the assassination in Ankara of the Russian ambassador to Turkey, new evidence has emerged linking the murderer to the exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen.

Andrey Karlov was shot dead on Dec. 19 last year as he delivered a speech at a photography exhibition. The assassin, Mevlut Mert Altintas, a police officer, was killed by security officers at the scene.

Altintas shouted in Arabic before he opened fire, suggesting a link to a militant group such as Daesh or Al-Qaeda. However, the chief prosecutor’s office in Ankara believes the shout was deliberately misleading, and intended to conceal the real motives for the murder.

Now Russian analysts have found files on the assassin’s laptop hard drive that refer directly to Gulen, as well as 690 references to the Gulen Hizmet (service in Turkish) and to Nur Cemaati, as Gulen is referred to by his supporters. They found no references to Daesh, Al-Nusra or Al-Qaeda.

Turkish and Russian intelligence services have been conducting a joint investigation into the assassination. The computer hard drive was initially examined by Turkish authorities, but they were unable to recover deleted files. Russian experts tried an alternative method, and recovered the files.

However, analysts have been unable to find the assassin’s social media posts and emails. He deleted them using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), with an IP address supplied by a US company, Express VPN, which does not keep logs.

Turkish authorities said the assassin was linked to a plot leader through ByLock, an encrypted smartphone messaging app widely used by Gulen supporters. Altinbas changed his mobile phone number a month before the murder.

Turkey has long believed that Gulen, who lives in exile in the US, was ultimately responsible for the ambassador’s murder. Ankara also believes the cleric and his network were behind last year’s failed attempt to depose President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a coup.

More than 30 people have given evidence in connection with the ambassador’s murder, and four people have been arrested.

“Russian officials have said that Turkish investigators are cooperating with the Russian side to the fullest extent,” Timur Akhmetov, a researcher at the Russian International Affairs Council, told Arab News.

That the Russian leadership has invested so much effort in developing relations with Turkey despite several obstacles suggests that Moscow trusts Ankara and believes the crime will be solved in the proper way, Akhmetov said.

Dr. Eray Gucluer, a terror expert from Altinbas University in Istanbul and at the think tank ASAM, said the assassination was an attempt to break Turkish-Russian ties, and was devised by a network transcending the two countries.

“In line with a pre-designed scenario, the hit man was put into contact with groups linked to Al-Qaeda just a couple of months before the assassination. However, he had harshly criticized those groups in his social media postings,” Gucluer told Arab News.

“Moscow considered this assassination as an operation firstly against itself, and then a provocation against its rapprochement with Ankara. Putin never used blaming rhetoric against Turkey.”

Russia closed all Gulen-linked schools in February 2006, which might have triggered vengeance from the group, he said.

Gucluer said the successful handling of the investigation would reassure countries with diplomatic missions in Ankara that Turkey took all necessary security steps to protect diplomats.

Turkey’s security forces have arrested a man who allegedly played a "key" role in the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, the Daily Sabah newspaper reported on Thursday.

The suspect, identified with his initials V.K.A., was re-arrested for his involvement in the 2016 murder. He was earlier arrested for links to the Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) of Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen.

Investigators say the suspect used ByLock, an encrypted messaging app. This app was exclusively used by the terrorist group during the attempted coup d’etat in July 2016, according to the paper.

A Turkish court has approved pre-trial detention for former civil servant Sahin Sogut, who is suspected of organizing the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, the Anadolu news agency reported on Friday, citing a judicial source.

Sogut, a former employee of the Turkish Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA), is also considered to be a senior member of FETO, the media reported.

The suspect was arrested in Ankara on Thursday after the investigation into the assassination found that he was a user of the ByLock messenger that was used by the organizers of the 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey, according to the agency.

Sogut is suspected of being responsible for deleting Altintas’ e-mails and giving instructions to him on the assassination, the security source told the agency.

On Monday, Ankara issued an arrest warrant for Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen along with seven members of his movement — referred to by Ankara as the Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) — in connection with the assassination.

US to Decide on Extradition of Gulen After Reviewing Materials From Turkey - DoJ

The United States will decide on the possible extradition of Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen over the killing of Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov after reviewing any documents Ankara may provide and based on the facts and relevant US law, spokesperson for the US Department of Justice Nicole Oxman told Sputnik.

We will review any materials the Turkish government may provide in this regard, and will make any decisions about extradition on the basis of the facts and relevant US law," Oxman said.

On Monday, Turkish media reported that Ankara had ordered the arrest of Gulen along with seven members of his movement, referred to as the Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) by Ankara, over Karlov's assassination in 2016. The Yeni Safak newspaper said that the FETO top figures, Serif Ali Tekalan and Emre Uslu Gulen, were also among those sought to be arrested.

This article is back-dated to December 2019 but it goes into some background on how this investigation is being handled. I would like to know, "What is the Turkish Government hiding"? It's a fairly long report, so I only provided an introduction.

Turkish prosecutor’s attempt to cover for assassin of Russian ambassador exposed
https://www.nordicmonitor.com/2019/...murder-of-russian-ambassador-dealt-huge-blow/

December 24, 2019 - An attempt by Turkish authorities to find a scapegoat and frame an innocent man to cover for the al-Nusra-linked killer of Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov, who was assassinated in Ankara, was dealt a huge blow when a key suspect accused by the prosecutor of instigating the hit exposed in court the torture he had been subjected to in police custody.

Şahin Sögüt, a former employee of the government’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), testified in court on January 9, 2019 that he was physically tortured by police during a three-day detention to coerce him to provide an incriminating statement. Sögüt was accused by prosecutor Adem Akıncı of giving the hit order to jihadist police officer Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş. Sögüt’s lawyer alleged that the prosecutor himself was involved in the torture and arranged the framing of an innocent man with a police chief. There is nothing in the hundreds of pages of the indictment that actually links Sögüt to the assassination; yet, the prosecutor went out on a limb by presenting him as the mastermind.

The evidence in the case file points out that the 22-year-old riot police officer who gunned down the Russian envoy was actually radicalized by a religious group led by Nurettin Yıldız, an extremist preacher who has often been described as the family cleric of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan because of his frequent keynote speeches at both youth events organized by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and conferences and lectures hosted by the Turkey Youth Foundation (TUGVA), run by Erdoğan’s family.
