best comedy movie

Well this is sort of a comedy - Groundhog Day. My fav movie of all time.

I love that movie! It cracks me up every time.

But I have to put my vote in for Monty Python, The Holy Grail and The Life Of Brian. They are probably my two favorite comedies of all time.

Wow, no love for the 80's guys? ;)

Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Gremlins 1 AND 2 (They both age especially well)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Caddyshack
Ghostbusters
Coming To America
Beverly Hills Cop
Blazing Saddles
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Princess Bride
Office Space

I was just wanting to post that I would have to expand my list to include Ghostbusters and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Those are great films.

As for Princess Bride, it was totally funny, but it is so amazing it is on my 5 or 10 favorite movies ever list.

Same goes for me. Particularly Life of Brian.

Really? That's inconceivable!

I love the "spoof" movies. There is so much going on that it is very easy to miss the subtlety's.

I think Airplane is one of my favorites. I still find new things when I watch it.

Dave.

I'm glad to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail mentioned. Remember some of those ridiculous insults hurled down on King Arthur and his men, by John Cleese as a (completely over the top) french sentry defending a castle? -

"I don't want to talk to you, no more, you empty-headed animal,
food trough whooper.

Your mother was a
hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.

You heaving lot of second-hand electric donkey bottom biters."

80's comedy reminds me of 'see no evil, hear no evil' and 'Stir Crazy'. Both starring Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. Damn, those guys were funny together.

 Totally agree, they made a great pair. Those two in a room, one blind and the other deaf, was just comedy gold. And don't forget Silver Streak either. Blackface Gene Wilder? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu1TZVX72Aw

Gotta love Galaxy Quest. Once you've found all the obvious in-jokes, start watching the actors in the background of different scenes. While the alien captain is explaining about the exploded "pig-lizard" to Sigorney Weaver, you see Sam Rockwell pick up a little piece and taste it. Tony Shaloub is very funny in a subtle way too.

Agreed with Monty Python, I liked a lot of Peter Seller's movies too.

No one's mentioned "The Secret". I thought it was hilarious given some of the facts found out here on the thread. :D

Going Postal - Terry Pratchett

Third adaptation of a Discworld novel produced by Sky is finally coming to our screens. Going Postal is the story of arch-swindler Moist Von Lipwig and the beautiful, vengeful Adora Belle Dearheart. A life long traveling con-artist, Lipwigs crimes finally catch up with him in the town of Ankh-Morpork. Faced with death by hanging, Lipwig is spared by Lord Vetinari, who sees him as the perfect man for the role of Postmaster in the decrepit Ankh-Morpork post office.

--Amazon review--

one word to descibe this production of the latest filmed venture into terry pratchett's discworld is brilliant. So good in fact it's almost as good as the first one called The Hogfather which is and has been the best adaptation so far. All the cast are top notch with David Suchet putting in an outstanding role as the villain. The story is about a con artist portrayed by Richard Coyle on the road to redemption by being forced into being the postmaster of discworld's doomed post office. His bail officer (Charles Dance) doesn't leave him much choice as if he doesn't he faces immediate death. The story progresses into him miraculously saving the postal service after David Suchet throws everything except the kitchen sink (quite literally) at him and not only redeems himself but finds true love.

Not the best trailer, I dont think it captures it at all but here is one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f42iED5-yX0
Here is a slightly longer 'trailer' and interview with Terry P. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zae-Tq73pQ8

I really enjoyed it, it takes on quite a few deeper topics in a very entertaining way. I really recommend it.

Seems the whole movie is avail on youtube too, not that its the best way to view a movie but just saying :D

Bill Murray movies have come up on this thread a few times. Does anyone remember the name of the movie that is a loose adaptation of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" where Bill Murray plays the character who is an adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson?

Perhaps it's Where the Buffalo Roam? I tried watching that a while back when I had an interest in Hunter S Thompson but couldn't sit through it.
