Bill Murray movies have come up on this thread a few times. Does anyone remember the name of the movie that is a loose adaptation of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" where Bill Murray plays the character who is an adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson?
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Director Terry Gilliam's episodic cult favorite chronicles the hallucinogenic misadventures of sportswriter Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and his Samoan lawyer, Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro), on a three-day romp from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Motoring across the Mojave Desert on the way to Sin City, Duke and his purple haze passenger ingest a cornucopia of drugs ranging from acid to ether. Mark Harmon, Cameron Diaz and Lyle Lovett turn up in cameos.

Cast:Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro, Gary Busey, Cameron Diaz, Ellen Barkin, Lyle Lovett, Christina Ricci, Harry Dean Stanton, Mark Harmon, Flea, Debbie Reynolds, Christopher Meloni, Gregory Itzin Director:Terry Gilliam Genres:Comedy, Cult Comedies, Dark Humor & Black Comedies, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Blu-ray
This is not it. There is an 80's Bill Murray flic, which is obviously about Hunter S. Thompson but does not mention his name nor the titles of any of his books.

Ditto on Young Frankenstein as my all time favorite with Galaxy Quest backing up a close second. Also like High Anxiety. Ah, Mel Brooks was truely a master. The Brooks, Korman, Leachman and Kahn team were priceless.

Not a movie, but used to crack me up was The Carol Burnett Show. Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were a great team. They would bring tears to my eyes from laughing so hard. There were skits where Tim Conway would do something funny and Korman and Burnett would be funny trying to hold in their laughter.

Favorite line in Young Frankenstein - "Hump? What Hump?" Gotta love Marty Feldman and his eyes. It was just Abby Normal. So lets all just "Roll, roll, roll in da hay"

I found it:
Where the Buffalo Roam (1980)

Semi-biographical film based on the experiences of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson.

Director: Art Linson
Writers: Hunter S. Thompson (stories), John Kaye (screenplay)
Stars:Peter Boyle, Bill Murray and Bruno Kirby
Thanks! But I was being lazy... I just realised like 30 seconds ago I could have easily searched the internet to find the answer myself quickly. Duh! But thanks all the same...

But I have to put my vote in for Monty Python, The Holy Grail and The Life Of Brian. They are probably my two favorite comedies of all time.

Same goes for me. Particularly Life of Brian.

Yeah. These two are at the top of my list.

As far as TV goes, besides the Golden Girls (of course) I gotta give it to Arrested Development, the short-lived FOX series about the shenanigans of a narcissistic family. It doesn't have a laugh track and it is absolutely packed with hilarity.

I've never seen Young Frankenstien. :-[

There have been some really good suggestions on here so far! Im liking the Bill Murray call out. Groundhog Day is a brilliant film on quite a few levels and very very funny with it.

My favourate comedy has to be Shaun Of The Dead (hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfDUv3ZjH2k&feature=related for trailer) its a Zombie movie paraody from the same team ( Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and directed by Edgar Wright ) that did Hot Fuzz ( mentioned earlier i the thread ) and also Spaced the brilliant TV Series written by Simon Peg and Jessica Stevenson again directed byEdgar Wright and starting Nick Frost. Infact my favourate moive of 2010 , Scott Pilgrim Vs The World ( also a very funny movie ), was Edgar Wrights international debut as a Director and is also worth checking out at some point.

Anyway im really enjoying the thread given me quite a few ideas for down time movies! thanks :)

Young Frankenstein, Groundhog Day, Galaxy Quest are definite favorites;
and slightly darker humor in Good Morning Vietnam and Mash.

Perhaps it's Where the Buffalo Roam? I tried watching that a while back when I had an interest in Hunter S Thompson but couldn't sit through it.

I had the exact same experience with that movie!

I had read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail and The Great Shark Hunt. They were quite funny and intelligent, IMO. In fact, the first rock band I ever played in was called "Fear and Loathing". But when I rented that movie I had to turn it off about a half-hour into it - it was so BORING! I was quite thoroughly disappointed.

Edit:

I wanted to add that one movie I always find funny is A Fish Called Wanda.

I like a lot of the movies previously mentioned in the thread, especially the Monty Python and Mel Brooks movies. I'd like to mention my personal favorite--a movie that never fails to cheer me up--the Marx Brothers' "Duck Soup." I also love several Woody Allen comedies--my favorites are "Bananas," "Sleeper," and "Love and Death."

Some of my favorite comedy movies growing up were Scary Movie, Kingpin, Happy Gilmore, and the South Park movie. I always liked the Wayans brothers work, especially their earlier stuff, and also Jim Carrey. I liked Monty Python and the Holy Grail a lot as well and Mel Brooks' films. Idiocracy was pretty funny also.

Thanks for reminding me of "Idiocracy," very funny!

As for Princess Bride, it was totally funny, but it is so amazing it is on my 5 or 10 favorite movies ever list.

Really? That's inconceivable!

my favorite line from the movie, and apropos to the current politics:

"never get involved in a land war in Asia"
