Poll: Biden's Economic Approval Rating at 30%, Lower Than Nadirs for Trump and Obama

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Less than one in three Americans approves of President Joe Biden’s job performance when it comes to economy as inflation shows no signs of abating, CNBC All-America Economic Survey said on Monday.

Biden’s economic approval dropped from 35% in April to 30%, which is a new low, the survey noted.

His predecessors, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, had 37% and 41% as their lowest points, respectively.

Only 6% of Republicans and a quarter of independents support Biden's economic record. Even among Democrats, just 58% are satisfied with his economic performance.

Biden’s overall approval rating is at 36%, 1 point down from Trump’s worst rating, and 57% of respondents disapprove of his work, according to the poll.

Most Americans are afraid that inflation will become a major issue in the near future. Fifty-one percent said Biden’s efforts make no difference, and one in three believes they are hurting.

Over half of respondents believe that the economic situation will worsen over the next year, while only less than one quarter expect improvements. Almost two-thirds expect a recession in the next 12 months, and another 6% think it has already come to the country, the survey found.

The poll was conducted from July 7-10 among 800 Americans, with a margin of error at plus or minus 3.5%.

Pentagon and Lockheed Reach Deal on Next Batch of F-35s Amid Inflation Concerns

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - The Pentagon and Lockheed Martin have reached an agreement on the prices and quantities of new F-35 fighter jets that will be purchased over the next three years, a company spokesperson said.

On Monday, US media reported that the Pentagon and Lockheed reached an agreement valued at about $30 billion for an estimated 375 F-35 fighter jets.

"Through a collaborative effort with the F-35 enterprise, including the Joint Program Office, suppliers and teammates, we have successfully reached an agreement on Lots 15 through 17," a company spokesperson said in a statement later on Monday. "In the midst of continued COVID-19 impacts and decreased F-35 quantities, the F-35 enterprise was able to achieve a cost per jet lower than record-breaking inflation trends."

Final prices, the number of F-35 jets that will be sold, including which countries will procure the aircraft, will be shared when the agreement is officially signed, the spokesperson added.

Before the coronavirus pandemic and record-setting inflation, the Pentagon expected to make this sale for 485 F-35 jets at a total cost of about $34 billion, according to US media reports.

Biden appears to admit he has serious illness (VIDEO)

The president seemingly claimed that pollution gave him cancer

US President Joe Biden announced to the press on Wednesday that he has cancer, although it is unclear whether he misspoke. Speaking at an event on climate change in Massachusetts, the president claimed that pollution in his home state of Delaware caused his illness.

“You had to put on your windshield wipers to get, literally, the oil slick off the window,” Biden said of the pollution near his childhood home, before adding “that’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up with have cancer.”

According to his physician, Biden had a number of “localized, non-melanoma skin cancers” removed prior to becoming president, but he has never attempted to link these minor dermatological conditions with pollution before, nor has he referred to himself as “having cancer.” However, White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates later attempted to clarify that Biden’s mysterious words were indeed referring to his prior procedure.

Biden’s physical and mental fitness has been repeatedly questioned by his Republican opponents and American voters.

In the wake of the president’s comments, conservative pundits speculated whether Biden just admitted to having a serious illness, or whether he displayed one of his characteristic verbal slip-ups, which they have claimed prove the 79-year-old’s cognitive decline.

Biden said on the campaign trail in 2020 that if there were ever a “fundamental disagreement” between himself and Vice President Kamala Harris, he would “develop some disease and say I have to resign.” His statement was treated as a “joke” by some media outlets.

US Congress May Struggle to Pass Future Ukraine Aid Bills if Dems Lose Control - Lawmaker

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US Congress may have a difficult time passing future assistance packages for Ukraine if Democrats lose control in the upcoming midterm elections in November, House Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittee Chairman Ruben Gallego said during remarks at the Aspen Security Forum.

"I would have a concern that the Democrats... lose control of the House and the Senate. It may be hard to pass future supplemental support for Ukraine," Gallego said on Wednesday.

Congress passed a $40 billion assistance package for Ukraine in May that provides Ukraine with over $20 billion in military aid, almost $9 billion in economic assistance, over $4 billion in humanitarian aid, and another $4 billion in foreign military financing through the State Department.

On February 24, Russia began the military operation in Ukraine responding to calls for help from the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. The US and its allies responded by imposing comprehensive sanctions against Russia while also ramping up their military support for Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly denounced the continuous flow of weapons to Ukraine from its Western allies, saying that it adds fuel to the fire and derails the negotiation process. In April, Russia sent a note to NATO member states, condemning their military assistance to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that "any weapon, any arms shipment on the Ukrainian territory" would be "a legitimate target."

Biden Says He Expects to Speak With China Counterpart Xi This Week, Does Not Expect Recession

WASHINGTON, July 25 (Sputnik) - US President Joe Biden told reporters on Monday that he anticipates having a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week and expressed his view that the United States will not experience a recession.

When asked whether he will speak with Xi this week, Biden said, "That's my expectation."

Biden added that he will let the media know about the conversation once it is set up.

Biden was asked how worried should Americans be ahead of the announcement on the nation's GDP on Thursday. The President said, "We are not going to be in a recession, in my view." He reiterated, "I don't think we are going to see a recession."

Last week, Xi sent a message of sympathy to Biden, wishing him a prompt recovery after acquiring the novel coronavirus, media reported. White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby confirmed that Xi sent the message to Biden.

On Thursday, Biden tested positive for novel coronavirus and is experiencing mild symptoms. The US president is currently working from his residence and will continue to do so for at least five days or until he receives a negative test, the White House said.

Earlier, Biden told reporters that he plans to have a phone call with the Chinese leader next week.

On November 16, Biden and Xi Jinping had an online meeting. Last time, the two leaders communicated on March 18 via video conference.
