Brexit survival kit helps Britons face the worst with freeze-dried fajita | Reuters

LEEDS (Reuters) - With just nine weeks to go until Britain is due to leave the European Union, a company is selling worried Britons a survival kit to help them prepare for the worst.

The “Brexit Box”, retailing at 295 pounds ($380), provides food rations to last 30 days, according to its producer, businessman James Blake who says he has already sold hundreds of them.

With still no deal on how Britain will trade with the EU once it leaves, retailers and manufacturers have warned a “no-deal” Brexit could cause food and medicine shortages due to expected chaos at ports that could paralyze supply lines.

The Brexit Box includes 60 portions of freeze-dried British favorites: Chicken Tikka, Chilli Con Carne, Macaroni Cheese and Chicken Fajitas, 48 portions of dried mince and chicken, firelighter liquid and an emergency water filter.

'Special place in hell' for those who promoted Brexit with no plan - EU's Tusk
6 Feb, 2019

Full quote: “I have been wondering what the special place in hell looks like for those who promoted Brexit without even a sketch of a plan to deliver it safely.”

It's a fair point from the EU's POV, but I don't think he meant it as concern for the citizens. The Tories got caught with their pants down thinking the Remainers would carry the day. Now there's a huge PR mess all around. It's now inconveniencing those at the top of what had been a happy going concern. May is now in a lot of EU leaders' bad book for bungling the con, and the letting the unwashed masses get ideas.

With the Brexit deadline fast approaching explosive packages were found in a number of London locations today.

But wait...where else have I seen such a coincidence?

I know! Before the last general elections when May decided she needed more parliament seats! A van rode into a crowd and the Manchester attack during Ariana Grande's concert happened!

I suspect ISIS won't claim responsibility this time as the parcels had Irish stamps on them. One must wonder whether this has anything to do with Ireland's contribution to May's Brexit headache?

There are coincidences and there is bull poo. This is the latter. :ohboy:

British police have launched a counterterrorism probe after “small improvised explosive devices” were found in envelopes bearing Irish stamps at London sites including Heathrow Airport, City Airport and Waterloo train station.
Three suspicious packages – all A4-sized white envelopes – appeared primed to start a small fire when opened, according to investigators.

“The Met Police Counter Terrorism Command is treating the incidents as a linked series and is keeping an open mind regarding motives, the police force said.

MET Police also confirmed that police in Ireland were assisting the investigation.

Flights were not affected by the security alerts and no injuries have been reported, although at least one of the packages was opened by an unsuspecting staff member, and it partially burned.

Police are appealing for Londoners to be vigilant and report any suspicious packages.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted his thanks to the security services for their response to the packages.

The fact that the envelopes had Irish stamps has immediately aroused suspicions that the incident could be related to tense relations between Dublin and London over Brexit negotiations.

The London Telegraph suggested that the incident could be part of a plot by dissident republican groups in Ireland. The issue of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland has been a major sticking point in Brexit talks, with the Irish side insisting on a 'backstop' measure to ensure that a hard border will never be introduced on the island, while the pro-Brexit side in the UK insist that a backstop is unnecessary to prevent a hard border and claim it is hampering a clean break from the EU.

I really believe they want to resurrect the IRISH PROBLEM again after so many years as more smoke screen to again delay Brexit. Having their Special Op's doing some extra dirty work is no problem to them. It worked before so they'll try again......even though many more people now know the Governments role in the in the murders and bombings of the 70's & 80's. The Skipal case is going cold so more smoke & mirrors. Thinking about this makes me feel very cold but a leopard never changes it's spots.

Well that seals it then! It must have been those dirty Irish what dun it! After all, I don't believe a single member of her majesty's government or security forces have ever set foot in that wretched place, let alone sent a package from there!

Upon hearing the news today I made an attempt to point out how poorly stitched the Irish Dissident Plot () was by saying that for all we knew a Polish plumber could have sent the parcels. I mean, there are quite a few of them in Ireland and those melted envelopes could have been caused by an irritant sink unblocker, duh ;-) I was called a conspiracy theorist. I took it as a compliment.

The more we approach the deadline, the more we see, read, hear stupid and desperate things and now we are talking more and more about another referundum...

It reminds me a session where the C's talked about the need for psychopaths to try desesperatly to keep control. The Brexit was an exemple of something they haven't seen coming and a really good example of what they are able to do in order to keep control.

It could have been a normal even complicated but still a normal business deal between UE and the UK. Nevertheless it would have been a really bad (good ?) example for the others who thought about leaving too. It's kind of a message for those who would like to leave too and defy the EU council : "Don't dare to leave or you will suffer our rage, suffer thousands of injuries and first of all, be ready for chaos and Apocalypse !".

Let's take a cup of tea, seat in a sofa and wait for what's next, it's rather interesting to observe all of that from a distance. It's a good situation to learn from, to understand a bit better the world where we live.

It's all fun and games in the land of Brexit. As expected, Theresa May's 2nd deal proposal (which was identical to the first) got rejected by Parliament, so today there will be a vote on whether to have a no-deal (hard) Brexit or not. My money is on no-deal being rejected, but I'm surprised at how many voices in the UK there seem to be that would rather have a no-deal than delay Brexit.

If the no-deal is blocked, then tomorrow there will be a vote about extending the deadline, which I imagine at that point should win. But if it doesn't, then apparently the UK will leave the EU on the 29 of March without a deal simply because there will be no deal to be had - even if they voted against that! (Which would be kind of funny.) That's what the diagram in this BBC article says anyways: Brexit: What could happen next?

I think it's time to grab the popcorn.

This is whole ridiculous farce reminds me of a psychological term called 'reactance'. The more you push someone towards something, or take their choice away from them, the more they dig their heels in.

Reactance is an unpleasant motivational arousal (reaction) to offers, persons, rules, or regulations that threaten or eliminate specific behavioral freedoms. Reactance occurs when a person feels that someone or something is taking away their choices or limiting the range of alternatives.

Reactances can occur when someone is heavily pressured to accept a certain view or attitude. Reactance can cause the person to adopt or strengthen a view or attitude that is contrary to what was intended, and also increases resistance to persuasion. People using reverse psychology are playing on reactance, attempting to influence someone to choose the opposite of what they request.

And what is the UK government doing? Trying to take the choice of leaving the UK away from people by telling them it just can't be done - and bully or scare them into wanting to stay. The result is that at this stage people don't care about a deal, they just want to leave. Like, NOW! Deal or no deal!

I'm actually beginning to wonder whether the government is planning to have a no-deal Brexit, screw up the economy for 6-12 months and then have a referendum about asking the EU to accept them back in because clearly the UK cannot survive without the EU. 😑

I think you have a point. And to think that exactly the same dynamic is what produced the Brexit vote in the first place. And then, if they 'let go' the UK in the worst way possible (cause the EU will want to make an example out of it), I wonder what will happen if in the following months other EU countries start having crises and demanding their own exits - as it is kind of happening already in France with the gilets jaunes? That would be 'fun' to watch.

Could be the plan I've never considered that! 🙄

There's a conspicuous lack of talk of a second referendum from what I can see. It's almost like they want the population to be begging for it, if anything to just stop the nonsense on the news every single day about Brexit, Brexit, Brexit on a never ending loop! We all know its the only sane option by now, and I reckon all but the die-hard brexiters are ready to jump the fence, not to mention the fresh batch of post-millenials that just came of age and will most likely vote to stay as well.

Hmmm...this is interesting Carl, my experience is actually different. If anything, the 'leave' sentiments have deepened. Some remainers now want to leave too but most express a kind of "I don't care, stay or go but just get this BS over with" attitude. My professional circle largely includes the City professionals and working for a consultancy gives me access to quite a wide spectrum of people of all ages, but mostly 30-60. As for my personal friends, remainers mostly include immigrants, many of them are from the EU so they have personal interest in remaining, or Australia and New Zealand so they don't want their travel flexibility to be limited. Many of my friends are in fact millennials, I agree that this particular group is much more 'remain' leaning.

I certainly cannot speak for the rest of the UK - or even London. Just my own milieu. And it's It's not like I can pick up a newspaper and find out what people's sentiments are because news reporting is as factual as the adventures of Peppa Pig.
