Caffeine withdrawal

You won't be sorry! ;) We grew up with it, so we kind of took it for granted. South African mothers really put it in their babies' bottles, and from there on onwards, it's what you drink. Only problem is, South Africans drink it with milk and sugar, so I'm kind of adjusting now. It's not so great without sweetener.

Try putting some xylitol or stevia in there instead of sugar and see how you like it. :)

I do put it on my skin as well every night, it's as famous for skincare as it is for drinking. ;)

Sugar feeds the candida in the gut and another reason why people crave sugars is to boost serotonin levels - a calming brain chemical - which then rises temporarily, only to crash after a short while, causing you to crave more sugary foods. Sugar creates an imbalance, depleting your serotonin levels after a short spike, leading then to mood swings.

Hi Psyche, E, All,

Sharing some (half)results here and just looking to get some feedback, but not sure if I should just be posting here www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=15609.0 .. but reading has lead to here so it seems just as appropriate.

To start off with I've done the usual half commitment to listening to your advice Psyche. Not to say I'm not observing.. I have to break some routines and try different things in my rebelliousness (the hard path of, figuring it out for myself - ok, being ignorant) in the hopes to strike a balance, or, preferably GET IT RIGHT!

Over the last couple of days I've likely tripled my water intake, and had a slight, almost non-existent tingle (left arm/neck issue for those who are curious) I'll say 2 times but think it was actually once, for the arm and my neck, though not causing me any 'nodal' pain has been slightly stiffer/sore - very bearable. . I've added Q10 and found it to be a blast to my energy levels, but then over the two days tried having coffee and then I zoom way up and fall hard or the zoom just leaves me. Today I actually felt nauseous even after waiting 3.5 hours between vitamins and trying to have coffee.

I'm a mad coffee (spelled SUGAR) drinker. It could be said that I have coffee with my sugar.

*caution, if your addicted to coffee/sugar the following may cause drool, if not, then maybe the desire the hurl*

I get me a scooper full of Swiss Miss Marshmallow (it's got to be marshmallow!) for chocolaty goodness, on rare occasion I might use sugar, then of course some Carnation French vanilla creamer, about a good chug/mouthful. This I mix in with the Sensao (two pods mind you) Coffee. Almost makes me want to drool thinking about it. I'll get over it in time. Of course with all of that I have about $30 bucks worth of this, what is starting to affect me and make me think of it as 'crap,' laying around. Not-to mention the ridiculous price of the machine itself. I have stuck to having cut back by half to some degree (Coffee), but now.. Now what I'm experiencing is, with the vitamins and detoxing (Far infra red blanket) and increasing my water intake, I sit down and my foot shakes cause I have so much energy as it did when I was a kid. <-That vs. 3.5 hours and trying coffee and just turning nauseas, there really is something spot on with the candida epidemic info, which, I took like most things, to be another (lie to myself) buffered away with a heaping of - the "it don't affect me," maybe someone else- lie.

Hope that last sentence wasn't to strung along of a sentence - might read a bit confusing.

I know nothing about Rooibos. Does it have a strong tea flavor? Had an experience as a child thinking, yummy - Apple Juice on ice! WT@#^%$ was that!? And spitting it into the pool and then being in trouble for being tricked into drinking WT@#^%$ was that (and pool)!? Talk about confusing. ;D

Anyhow the info in your statement really says it all.. not that I'm not a total slave to poor nutrition, but holy heaven it is a very deep pit I've dug. At least that observation fadingly seems to come into view. I'm getting self-mutilated by my ignorance and lethargy. Thanks for your sharing guys/gals.

If you are a heavy coffee drinker, and you decide to quit, I won't suggest going cold turkey. Wean yourself off it slowly.

It's funny, when I woke up this morning, they were discussing rooibos on the radio.

It tastes really good, better than normal tea. If someone makes tea in South Africa, they always ask "rooibos or normal?" In restaurants when you order tea the waiter will always ask as well.

Strictly speaking, rooibos isn't really a tea, it's a herb.

http://www.health24.com/dietnfood/Healthy_foods/15-18-181-183.asp

It is classified as a herbal tea, which means that rooibos is made from "a flowering plant without a woody stem". Herbal infusions can include flowers, herbs, fruit and spices. These infusions are caffeine-free, unlike all other types of tea.

Herbal teas don't contain tea leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant and therefore cannot be technically classified as a tea. However, this does not mean that herbal teas don't have health benefits. They have many, but these differ from those of "real" tea.

On the radio this morning they said it's a natural anti-inflammatry, so apart from drinking, when you are severely sun-burned, you should put a few bags in your bath water. People also put the used tea bags on their eyes for cosmetic purposes.

Here is the official rooibos site of the South African rooibos council:

http://www.sarooibos.org.za/

It apparently works well with allergies as well, and it's the only known source of an antioxidant called aspalathin.

:)

Hey Balberon, it was tough to read your sugar/coffee intake. I mean, please, don't do that to yourself  . I also agree with E, wean off from coffee slowly but surely, decreasing the amount every day.

I think too that Rooibos tastes better than tea, although among the tea lovers I had found that some don't like rooibos. Probably because rooibos is not exactly tea? But I love it. When you cut sugar and coffee (and other evil foods), your taste buds change. After awhile you might end up finding your old cup of coffee disgustingly sweet and poisonous, as "it should be". ;)

You can also get some xylitol, it tastes just like sugar. You're not supposed to have lots of xylitol either, also because it might give you LOTS of gas. But it tastes just like sugar and might help you to get rid of that marshmallow stuff.

A big promoter of rooibos tea was because of a popular series of charming novels set in Africa, where the lead character was always making rooibos tea. I fell in love with the tea while reading the books and ran out to buy some. I wasn't disappointed.

Here's a bit about the novels and tea

Thanks for the info on this writer, chachazoom. I didn't know about him. There is a tv series running at the moment called The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency set in Botswana. It must be based on his book.

Sorry about that, here is some info.

I get me a scooper full of Swiss Miss Marshmallow (it's got to be marshmallow!) for chocolaty goodness,
_https://www.coffeeforless.com/product.asp?id=461&CatID=127 Except mine is the 37 Oz. Drum. The scooper is roughly a level table spoon.

on rare occasion I might use sugar, -maybe a tea spoon

then.. Carnation French vanilla creamer
_http://www.coffeeforless.com/product.asp?id=495 I buy the half gallon drum vs. the little packets.

I don't shop at coffee for less, just what the search engine found.. in the hopes to clear the toughness of the read.

about a good chug/mouthful. -an ounce maybe?

This I mix in with the Sensao (two pods mind you) Coffee.
Sensao is a machine and specially designed coffee - 'pods' that fit into an "Aluminum" pod holder and the coffee is filtered through the pods inside the machine. It's almost like espresso in a pod, without the grounds getting all over. _http://www.senseostore.com/

..Of course with all of that I have about $30 bucks worth of the pods. -Strange how invested I am into my addiction. It's almost like no body is home and the zombie goes out for its coffee. If you didn't catch the humor in that.. it was meant to be funny.

Thanks for the feedback and insights. I intend to ween myself off of it, soda, sugar/corn syrup in general fairly rapidly. I sometimes get headaches. I thought it was caffeine addiction - which it may be to some degree, if coffee actually does thin the blood. Now I'm starting to think it is more likely the candida.

I apologize that it was laziness on my part not to be more clear and give more direct info in my original post. I wonder if its the feeling that I'm always the last to know things, with the thought that, everyone else knows what sensao is, so I don't have to give too much information. An example is rooibos, not that it is factual, but it seems like I was the last to know about it. Not that that is at all realistic. :)

:) I understood what you wrote, I meant to say that I was shocked by it. I'm glad you finally decided to stop that stuff. It is recommended to wean off coffee gradually because it can give bad headaches.

Organic nonetheless! Hmmm! Remember that the green unfermented is better for you. :)

I missed that important fact in the earlier discussions! What I picked up today had no notation at all about whether it was fermented or unfermented - so I don't know what I have - but - it's really, really good!
