Just to point out my leading assumptive error, although the statement is true, Newman did bring both these matters up in basically a couple of paragraphs, more after the fact that rounded off my past thinking. So, I think it fair to say that the press then (in attack-dog mode) lined this family up in so many spurious ways with headlines and rumours, and as a young person then, the headlines over influenced. With headlines, it is hard enough now in our times while trying to pay attention, and when not the plot can be quickly lost. During that period of time, headlines were set against them, they had the Gucci shoe story (equating it to Imelda Marcos shoe closet), and then their lavish spending on Sussex Drive, when in fact both stories were confabulations. Their furnishings were out of their own pocked (over $200,000), all paid back to the cent (receipts are in the book), and Mila left their furnishings for the next PM's family, which was documented. Brian was consulting to the Germans; although fees in bags have a certain ocular perception, the evidence and the legal suit backed up the wrong of the press and the Liberal attackers.
