A quick correction to some of my comments on the Madrid Earthquakes 1811-12 in yesterday’s workshop on Beyond Disclosure. Looking over my notes I appear to have been conflating it with some of the effects recorded during the 1812 Moscow fire and 1871 Chicago Fire.
The Madrid Earthquakes and Moscow fire were extremely close to the appearance of the Great Comet of 1811 or Tecumseh’s Comet the tail of which was observed to reach great length.
There's a good article on Sott going over the numerous unusual phenomena reported around the New Madrid earthquakes. Flashing lights, darkness, Sulphur mists, electrical discharges and odd animal behavior.
Foul odours, strange lights, electrical shocks, paranoia and a comet: The ominous activity surrounding the devastating New Madrid earthquakes of 1812
Some accounts can be found in The Handbook of Unusual Natural Phenomena 1977, by Corliss, William R, pg 411. Of note here is perhaps the noises or ‘explosions’ accompanying the earthquake heard by witnesses.
There's another article on Sott covering the evidence for a cometary impact as the cause of the earthquake. Evidence is less clear on this event. Though given the accounts of the great comet something of its size could have been very disruptive to things on Earth perhaps even without a major impact.
1811-12 New Madrid Earthquakes, A NEO Connection?
The 1812 fire of Moscow during Napoleons invasion is covered here on the forum. Evidence for cometary impact here seems high.
A comet set the city Moscow on fire in 1812?
Here are some Sott articles on the 1872 Chicago fire which appears to have been a result of cometary impacts. The second is by Laura with conjecture that it was the remains of comet Biala which had been seen at regular intervals across much of the 19th century.
