Civil War in Ukraine: Western Empire vs Russia

Something creepy is going on in Donetsk again: militia claim that a plant has been blown up. It's not exactly clear which one: a military, a chemical or both..
There are a number of videos, this one for example:

The local authorities claim that the radiation level is normal as of yet. Also, there are videos and photos of some strange circled chemtrails in Donetsk skies (whether or not it's connected with the blown up plant is unclear also):

On Lada Ray's blog she has published a correspondence between to Russian citizens belonging to the liberal, pro Western, "pro-US democracy" etc type of person. She received the report from a Paul Plane of The Plane Truth show which must be this one: _http://timemonkradio.com/threads/the-plane-truth.281/ The writer is a Alexey Sakhnin, you can search him on Google, and apparently he is a writer or journalist living in Sweden, it seems. The Russian original is here: _http://rosuznik.org/letters/1736
Anyhow, with this introduction I post a few excepts to give you a taste of the translation:

First of all, just above the following title, there is a link to the Facebook group Truth about situation in Ukraine. I looked up the "About" info and there were links to: _http://novorossia.today and _http://www.ustream.tv/channel/Новороссия... Considering that Kristina Rus is listed as translator of the articles and since this name comes up on the FB group, I guess the translation of the letter was originally posted on the FB group, but this group is so active that I have not been able to trace it yet, but I will post some excerpts from that FB to back up the letter

RUSSIAN OPPOSITION ACTIVIST LETTER: THE TRUTH ABOUT KIEV REGIME
A letter from one Russian liberal opposition activist (Alexey Sakhnin) to another (Alexey Gaskarov), who was arrested for inciting violence and causing harm to police officers during the riots of May 6, 2012 in Moscow, regarding his trip to Ukraine:
This is a grim picture. It turned out to be much worse and intense than I imagined.

“Alex, hello, buddy. You know, ever since I got your last letter, I took a trip to Ukraine. Spent there 9 days. And now I have a lot of live experience about how things are arranged over there. I’ll try to tell it without superfluous emotions, though it is difficult.
[...]
Secondly, you know, the propaganda in Ukraine is even worse. After many years, when the country had relative pluralism, watching what is happening now is very bizzare. Well it is clear – all channels, newspapers and websites inciting a wild national patriotic hysteria. Well, let’s say it is a side effect of war. But what about facts? We visited the editorial office of one of the most moderate websites. The type of people from Lugansk working in Kiev, some former leftists out there involved. They claim to be against torture, kidnappings and so on. But on the wall hangs a large poster on which are written the aims and principles of editorial policy. The first among them “to create a conducive atmosphere for ATO ” (anti-terrorist operation). That means – fueling the war. Accordingly, the facts are selected for publication. All that is conducive for the “atmosphere” — is published without validation. Everything else is simply not published. Forget about the TV box. NTV and Lifenews could learn from them.

Well, propaganda is a military tool. Now about the occupation. I was not in the zone of ATO. Whether Russian troops are there, I don’t know. We were deep in the homefront. In Kiev, Odessa, Kharkov. Alex, I swear to you, what’s happening over there is a civil war. Without any intervention. The internal war. The worst — in Odessa.

7 out of 10 ‘ordinary people’, i.e., taxi drivers, pensioners who rent rooms for visitors, waitresses, passengers of public transport repeat the passwords: ‘junta’, ‘fascists’. I dont have any stats, and in this situation it would be impossible, but it feels like its a majority in the city. And you would not imagine the degree of tension. Typical words of one taxi driver: “We’re just looking forward to when it will be possible to take revenge.”

And, on the other hand, I gets more interesting. We were interviewing the Right Sector (I went there as a Swedish journalist). They are 18-year-old slacker enthusiasts. A complete copy of those who came to the LF in the 2011-2012. The same naive and inexperienced romantics. But they are reading not Kagarlitsky, but Yarosh. And their heroes are Mussolini and Franco. They say “those who don’t like the new Ukraine — suitcase, train station, Russia”. This is a no nonsense fascist organization, which is supplied with green youth in abundance. But it’s not the worst. The worst thing is the moderates.

I’m not saying names, but I have all the interviews. Picture this: a nice office in the centre of the city. At the gates is an armored car. In the courtyard – a bunch of meatheads with machine guns. And the map of Ukraine. They are the ‘community activists’. Collecting money from businesses for patriotic purposes [racketeering]. They have a great system. Enough money and ammunition and their own territorial defence battalion and a bunch of armed guys on call. Think about it — they’re nobody, they have no official status. But they have real power: money, weapons, organization. And no official authority can do anything against them. They are the moderates. “We hate Ukrainian nationalists, they are provocateurs.” But I asked them, “you have half the city of people who disagree, how will you live with them? And he says to me, verbatim: “For them we have a compromise. They sit quietly at home. If they want to talk about the ‘junta’, they say a whisper to the toilet bowl. If they go out on the streets, we will start shooting “.

You know, Alex, but it is real fascism. Without the clowns with swatsikas. And Odessa and other cities have sworms of these guys.

And the capacity of civil dialogue is limited to this: “We’ll shoot.” And they have weapons, money, organization. And it’s not empty threats. They already shot. In broad daylight.

Ejnars Graudinsh, Latvian human rights activist with a group of experts of the OSCE visited the mass graves in the Donetsk region. According to them, the military gang-raped women, including minors and the elderly.

"We were approached by a group of women. They spoke very emotionally, literally wept. Said it all at once, then one by one. They said that mercenaries of the battalion "Azov" and "Donbass" subjected to frequent gang-raped all the women of the village. Victims of abuse became teenage girls 12 years and older women.

In front of me was one of those victims - 13-years old girl. Thin, weak, with haunted eyes. Her mother said that Ukrainian soldiers repeatedly raped her daughter. Mother's grief is beyond words. She literally screamed with horror "- pointed Graudinsh.

In addition, he was informed that fighters of ATO [all military of Kiev junta] send via mail stolen from village goods.

War in the time of ceasefire
Kiev militants and Novorossia militia both turn to partisan tactics.

The necessity to uphold the formal ceasefire in Donbass region has forced Kiev and the People’s Republics to move towards the use of sabotage groups inside enemy territory. The reported number of such incursions grows every day, forcing the opposing sides to develop new countermeasures against this type of a threat.

The rhetoric used by Ukrainian politicians suggests that Kiev government is not backing down on the idea to retake Donbass. Hence the efforts to sabotage the economies of People’s Republics and to lessen the military potential and capabilities of the militia. According to the DPR press-centre, two electrical substations inside militia-controlled territory were blown up last Sunday.

According to captive soldiers of Ukraine’s National Guard, a group of 50 men, specifically trained to carry out terrorist attacks, was formed in Cherkasskaya Oblast. All members of the group are convicted criminals who have been promised amnesty in return for their services. Over the last few months, the Ukrainian side has carried out dozens of attacks on infrastructure, many of which lead to destruction of bridges and railroads.

At the same time, reports are coming in indicating an increase in partisan activities inside Kiev-controlled territory. Information about shipments of military equipment and ammunition from special militia units near Mariupol to anti-Maydan activists in Khersonskaya and Zaporozhskaya regions recently surfaced on the internet.

It appears that the authorities in Kiev are taking the threat of a real partisan war against them very seriously. That would explain why 400 volunteers from the so-called “Kherson self-defence” unit have been armed and are currently being trained to defend against attacks by sabotage groups. “First National” TV channel reported that in Kiev women are being trained to camouflage and survive in wooded areas. The volunteers are also asked to pay a fee of 200 grivnias to the instructors. There is a plan to offer such training in other Ukrainian cities.

The main question that remains unclear – can partisan tactics influence the political situation in Ukraine.

According to the co-chair of Novorossia People’s Front Vladimir Rogov, it is too early to talk about training special sabotage groups in Donbass region for action inside Kiev-controlled territories. But Ukrainian authorities should not expect an easy ride.

I am skeptical of the information about potential shipment of arms and armoured vests to partisan groups in Zaporozhe and Khersonschina. Such information helps the enemy by giving the authorities in Kiev grounds for repressions against our activists who have been using only peaceful means so far. But some of the partisans are actually armed. At least the ones who are integrated into Ukrainian security services.

Having said that, pinpoint strikes have already began. Recently, a “volunteer” who was collecting arms for the Ukrainian army was shot dead in Zaporozhe. On September 25th, an office collecting aid for the National Guard was set on fire in Mariupol. On the 26th, National Guard headquarters in Kharkov were fired at. And let’s not forget about fuel tanks and bridges that were blown up recently. I believe that the authorities in Kiev understand that we won’t let them breathe easy as long as they are on our land.

“SP”: Is the Resistance hoping for a political system change in occupied territories?

Let’s remember the Great Patriotic War (WWII). It didn’t matter how many trains were derailed or how many Gauleiters were killed, it would take regular Red Army units or large partisan units to actually change the situation. Destroying enemy forces is not enough, it is important to setup a system of civilian authorities which would be responsible for the normalization of day to day lives for the local population.

It is obvious that our resistance has made the authorities and security services very nervous. We can also see that even road cops are getting very anxious, which is leading to incidents such as the recent police beating of a driver who simply happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Governors and oligarchs are beefing up their private security services. They are living in constant fear, finding refuge in alcohol and narcotics. Zaporozhe and Dnepropetrovsk regions are great examples of this.

“SP”: Do partisan movements have the support of local population?

Even if you take just the Zaporozhe region, thousands are ready to fight. But they are all looking for a clear and intelligent direction, they don’t want to sacrifice themselves meaninglessly. Given proper coordination and leadership, they will rise up and fight alongside us. And the authorities feel this.

Another measure of the support we receive is a relatively new site “People’s Tribunal”. The site lists supporters of Ukrainian authorities. The first day after its launch, despite being absolutely unadvertised, it received close to half a million visits. The format of the information on the site suggests that a lot of it comes from sources within Ukrainian security services.

Millions of people have now effectively become partisans. Anyone intentionally not paying for utilities or withdrawing their funds from banks is fighting against the authorities. They are willing to live a few months, or even a year, in total poverty, limiting themselves, just to help bring closer the liberation of the country. And to help bring those who have fallen ill with the “Ukro-Nazism” virus to the proper facilities where starvation and cold will start them on the healing path.

“SP”: Minsk agreements suggest that Donbass will have its own system of authorities, while the rest of Ukraine will be controlled by the authorities in Kiev.

This scenario is impossible. It is important to remember that the agreement signed in Minsk was a memorandum, a simple preliminary document that states intentions, but does not actually bind anyone to any particular course of action. Right now fighting is continuing, dozens of people are dying – what ceasefire are we talking about? Novorossia will be from Kharkov to Odessa, or it won’t happen at all.

People are starting to rise up. This is why the authorities in Kiev are increasingly terrorizing the population. Another wave of the “war on monuments” is now under way. The authorities want to show that they are capable of winning, even if it is only within the information and media battleground.

According to the leading expert of the Centre for Military and Political Studies in MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of International Relations) Mikhail Alexandrov, only active involvement of Novorossia supporters all over Ukraine can change the situation in the country:

After the Minsk ceasefire agreement, when Novorossia armed forces were forced to stop their offensive, sabotage and partisan activities effectively remain as the only useful tactics for its supporters. Without an offensive on Kiev’s positions, People’s Republics will not be able to survive. Kiev is using the ceasefire to build up its troops. The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has recently secretly ordered an “extraordinary pre-war preparation period”, a timeframe that the country will use to prepare itself and its armed forces for a war. It is important to force Ukrainian authorities to disperse their resources and get involved in many conflicts all over the country. Then Kiev will not be able to form a strong force against Donbass, and the entire regime will be on shaky ground.

The process of liberation of Ukraine will be speeding up. Partisan tactics allow for pinpoint strikes on the most important targets such as army headquarters or Security Service of Ukraine agents and offices. Other targets could be activists of political parties that support the regime in Kiev. Parties like “Svoboda” (Freedom) or the ones formed by Poroshenko and Timoshenko. Ammunition and equipment storage facilities could be other very important targets – strikes on these can paralyze the Ukrainian army. Foreign mercenaries and their bases. All of this will aid in forcing Kiev to lose control over the situation and the eventual fall of the regime.

“SP”: Security Service of Ukraine will not sit back and watch events unfold.

Of course, Kiev will not sit back and relax. Security Service of Ukraine is one of the major structures that the regime relies on. This is why it is especially important to carry out strikes against its agents, to ensure they are afraid to even leave their offices. Right now the opposite is happening. SSU is intimidating the opposition, but it should be the other way around. This will open new possibilities for resistance. The punitive regime needs to be destroyed, this is the only way they will stop terrorizing the population.

“SP”: Partisans need specially equipped facilities.

I believe that possibilities for partisan resistance exist under any conditions. Even in Arabic deserts. Bases with arms and ammunition can be setup in big cities. If the locals support the partisan movement, the fight will be a success.

“SP”: Mass support is not visible for now.

Yes, the majority of population is very passive. But you can always find people who are opposed to the regime. Some are against the authorities because their relatives were killed, some lost their possessions, others are joining the resistance based on ideological motives. Worsening economic situation speeds up the process. People are irritated by the political repressions, roadblocks, by armed National Guard thugs roaming the streets. During Second World War in France, the Germans were not overly rampant, locals lived alright and still there was resistance. I believe Ukrainian population has a lot more reasons to fight against the regime.

“SP”: Can the partisan movement develop into a real political force?

Partisans can destabilize the situation. Under such conditions Kiev will be losing control over the country. Especially if the resistance will be active all over Ukraine, even in Kiev, not just in a few regions. The regime will crumble and more and more regions will break away from Kiev. The authorities will not have enough troops to throw into every conflict zone. This will allow Donbass militia to start a new offensive and capture regions, which will become effectively free of Kiev authority. This way, the partisan movement and political change are interconnected.
Partisan war has a long history in Russia, here are just two articles about how it worked during WW 2: _http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/russian_resistance_movement.htm

Having trouble verifying this. Allegedly the police chief is Kostyantyn Pozhydayev. This site says:
_http://www.nwodissident.com/?p=28
After an outrage, Right Sector claimed it was a “provocation”, yet did not explain how they obtained the video or why they uploaded it at all. Its authenticity seemed confirmed when a copy of the video was found on a memory chip of Irma Krat (entire chip available here), a Right Sector activist who was captured in Slavyansk on April 20. While there are no apparent reports of Pozhydayev’s death in the media, there are no reports of him alive either (and this story has gained a lot of traction in Ukraine).

But someone else linked to this: _http://mvs.gov.ua/mvs/control/donetsk/uk/publish/article/132494 showing that he gave a press conference a week or so after this video was uploaded. I can't find a picture of Pozhydayev to compare to the man in the video.

Then there's this, which allegedly shows that someone faked the video:

Mustafa Nayyem is responsible for recent staged videos about executions by Praviy Sector. His correspondence was hacked by Anon and it revealed some interesting details. And he calls himself a journalist? Please save and share http://ntv.livejournal.com/353029.html?nojs=1

This is how the KIEV JUNTA USES JOURNALISTS AND MASS MEDIA for their propaganda and psychological war!

Details of their collaboration in English as follows. Mustafa Nayyem (or Nayem) is a popular Ukrainian journalist and public figure, former journalist of newspaper "Kommersant-Ukrainy" and the TVi channel, currently working with the internet newspaper Ukrainskaya Pravda, also participates in the "Stop the censorship!" Ukrainian journalist movement and Hromadske TV project. In April 2013 he openly stated that he was not paid by politicians. However, as discovered by Anon, he was the one to FABRICATE VIDEOS FOR THE JUNTA'S INTERIOR MINISTER Arsen Avakov. On one of the videos a policeman is killed by people from the neo-nazi Right Sector. On the second one a Russian is hanged by the neo-nazis. The videos were fabricated to scare people and make them silent. Nayyem is also suspected to be the head of the special department working for the illegitimate authorities that is responsible for disinformation, propaganda and psychological war.
...
Nayyem: In search engines I see "Right Sector killing policeman", "Right Sector cutting throat". The video has spread well on the Internet.

Avakov: You worked just beautifully, as always. )) Well done!

Nayyem: Thanks again for your help with people.

Meanwhile in Germany, a country which, unlike the UK (and Russia) has, largely successfully, dealt with its sordid past, state-owned ARD came in from criticism from its own board this week. They found that “The station’s coverage had ‘given the impression of bias’ and appeared to be directed against ‘Russia and Russian standpoints.’”

According to the Hannover-based Telepolis, the report “criticizes the absence of any fundamental analysis of the negotiations between the European Union (EU) and Ukraine on the Association Agreement. It criticizes the fact that 'NATO’s political and strategic intentions' with regard to its policy of eastern enlargement were not raised. Nor was any critical analysis made of the legitimacy of the 'so-called Maidan council.’ The same applies to the 'role of the radical nationalist forces, particularly Svoboda' and their activities during the failure 'of the agreement to resolve the crisis in Ukraine of 21 February.’”

The "constitutional and democratic issues" involved in the removal of President Yanukovich and the role of right-wing forces in his overthrow were also not adequately investigated by ARD. In addition, there was no critical analysis of the role of politicians such as Yulia Tymoshenko and Vitaly Klitschko.

“The council also challenged the station’s coverage of the secession of Crimea from Ukraine. There was no proper investigation made of the procedure and legality of the Crimean referendum, its international legal status, the significance of popular participation in the vote, and the role of historical issues and the ethnic groups in Crimea in the secession process,” Telepolis continues. If other Western media was subjected to the rigorous examination foisted on ARD, one wonders how different coverage might become.

There is no doubt that sections of the Russian media are, often, guilty of hyperbolic reportage. However, much of the Ukrainian-media is completely one-sided propaganda. In a conflict situation, it’s the duty of the independent press, from nations not directly involved, to sift through the information (and disinformation) and produce a narrative which accurately describes the reality.

Too often, in this year’s Ukrainian turmoil, coverage has been completely of one hue, a yellow and blue one. This is wrong. It must stop.

It is without doubt useful to raise the question why the medias have been so silent or distorted about much of what has happened in the UA (and qutie a number of issues) It is a pity not more journalists have reflected on the game they are involved in.

There has never been freedom of the press in lackeyland (Ua), no freedom of opinion. media mogul of Kolomoiskiy "1+1" blocked YouTube channel of Ukrainian media expert Anatoly Shariy by the false reports of "copyright infringement". cynicism is that prostitutes of the channel referred to the bloody oligarch allegedly own videos, which they stole from the other channel. Shariy is currently suing them, promising to restore your account on YouTube.
