I find it somehow striking on symbolic level that a chamber of commerce (money) is being compared to the iconic Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. Kind of emphasising the consequences of replacing religious faith with the new god of mammon...
The evening before the State TV had shown a report about the Notre-Dame fire, one FB comment read. I tried to verify and found an article, that could have been a five-minute news report published the day before:
Five years ago, Notre Dame went up in flames - this is how the restoration took place It has so far cost 550 million euros to restore the Parisian landmark. There have been other documentaries and series about the Notre Dame fire over the years. If people did not know about the Paris church before the fire, they might know about it now. Perhaps it is on this background that the Reuters article included a comparison:
"Horrible pictures from the Bourse. So sad. An iconic building that means a lot to all of us ... Our own Notre-Dame moment," Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen wrote on X.
Reuters quotes the Minister of Defence, as if he is the only one able to make a Tweet? Minister or not, saying that the building meant a lot is reasonable, considering that it is only 200 meters from the Danish Parliament, where he is working. By him writing, the Government goes along with the idea that it was just a fire, or is it known or suspected in those circles that the Notre Dame fire was sabotage? For a discussion, see

While the symbol of Notre Dame and the old stock exchange are very different one being religious, the other commercial, the respect the society has for old buildings, and the achievements of the past, is that it connects them to their ancestors, the memory of an illustrious leader. It is not openly admitted or talked about in such terms, but I suspect that element is there.
If it was sabotage what would be the motive?
Some commentators found it odd they had seen a news report on TV about Notre Dame only the evening before. Was that part of the circumstance that led to the fire? This would be highly strange, especially because the people in Copenhagen did not suffer from the Paris fire, but who knows? In a different field, there was:

If a downward spiral falls, what does that mean? One can speculate, in this case, the context of the spire was the building, and its purpose to protect against enemies and fire. Even if it was initially just a place for trade its last fame was as the place for the national stock exchange. Contrasting older ways of doing business, actual paper stocks, with newer ways which is digitalized trading, and especially digital money, where would there be less fraud? Or how is it possible that the US can have trillions of USD in debts while others suffer, and have to do as told?
Inside the building, there were large images of, Courage, Diligence, Justice, and Wisdom. I don't know if these were paintings on canvas or wall paintings, but the ideas are noble. How do they compare with what goes on today in western politics and parts of the financial world?
Among the comments, some said the event reflects the actions of a war-pushing Government, that is taking the country down. The media and the government are publicly behaving as they should from a US, Ukraine, Israel, perspective. For instance, the Nordstream sabotage investigation was kept from becoming a problem and closed down without revealing much. There is no apparent lack of support for US projects The same day as the fire, it was announced the Government has made
another huge donation to Ukraine.
The day after the fire, there was this article in one paper, the author commenting on weapons that did not go to Ukraine:
Denmark has sold the last F-16 aircraft to Argentina. It is strange that, with the current situation in Europe, they send 24 fighter jets as far away as possible. It is a bad signal for Ukraine and the other countries in Europe. With the sale, Denmark does not have the opportunity to donate the last planes to Ukraine at a later date. Is it the United States that pushed the decision through?
The author of the above article is very late for the show, as the selling of the 24 F-16 to Argentina, was
cleared/facilitated by the US in October 2023. Seen from a US perspective, the Danish Government did what it should.

Ekstra Bladet was present during today's press conference with Hovedstadens Beredskab. Among other things, it was about the crew's continued efforts at the historic Stock Exchange building.
Didn't know what awaited them
The capital's emergency services did not know the extent until after their arrival.
Four vehicles arrived at Børsen at 7.40am, and none of the ten firefighters responded to anything unusual.
- But two minutes later, flames and smoke rise from the building. The police must investigate what happened before they arrived, says the incident leader.
From the press conference, it was clear that the work is ongoing, they are trying to stabilize what is still standing, and remove anything flammable, as there still are risks from smoldering embers. The fire began early in the morning, just when people would be busy getting to work, to school, in time for maximum media coverage.

As fire advisor at Copenhagen Fire Engineering and fire expert at the engineering association IDA, Jens Kastvig is a man with a solid CV.
And there is something that doesn't really make sense to the seasoned fire expert, after he, like so many other Danes, saw the images of Børsen's dragon spire, which succumbed to the flames on Tuesday and crashed to the ground.
- There are some things in this that are not 100 percent connected in relation to a normal fire sequence, he says to DR Nyheder.
And
what does not add up for Jens Kastvig is, among other things, how a fire can develop so violently if it were to have started on Tuesday morning.
- People talk about it being a roof fire, but yesterday it emerged that
those standing on the roof could not see smoke when they started hearing the fire alarm.
- Four minutes later the fire brigade then arrive, and when they get on the roof the fire has already become violent, violently large.
Far from normal fire progress
- The fire quickly gained a very large scope and is spreading with an explosive character, said Tim Ole Simonsen, chief of operations at the capital's emergency services, and one of the first on the scene.
And that is exactly what makes fire expert Jens Kastvig wonder.
- It's not a normal fire course. A 'normal fire' will spread over time as an exponential development until everything in the room ignites - what is called a flashover.
- This indicates that it has gone almost directly into over-ignition, says Jens Kastvig.
Therefore, he is now presenting a new theory about the fire. He believes that something indicates that the seed for Børsens was finally laid already on Monday evening.
- My best guess would be that there has been a smoldering fire inside a cavity from the night before.
If you want to see a smoldering fire in your inner eye, you have to imagine a fire or a stove that has almost gone out. No flames, but plenty of heat, explains Jens Kastvig.
- If something has been smoldering inside a cavity all night, and it then breaks through the cavity in the morning, then air gets to it, and then the conditions are present for a rapid fire development, says the fire expert.
At the same time, he emphasizes that he naturally does not know the actual cause of the fire.

Smolder fire would make sense
It is also consistent with why the fire alarm was first heard early on Tuesday morning.
- It would also make sense for fire development in a cavity, as it has not been detected by the fire alarm system previously, because there is no legal requirement that small cavities of less than 200 cubic meters must be monitored by a fire alarm.
Jens Kastvig does not dare to point out where a smoldering fire might have started, but in an old building under renovation there are several possibilities, he explains.
- In an old building, it can happen in an old electrical installation if hot work has been done, or if some linoleum cloths have been lying on top of each other or something completely different. But I will leave that to the police.
The Copenhagen Police, who are investigating the Børsen fire, did not want to comment on the theory of whether it could be a smoldering fire that started the night before.
However, this morning it was heard from deputy police inspector at Copenhagen Police, Brian Belling, that they are still in the process of clarifying the cause of the fire.
- We continue to work with the traditional investigation as we still cannot enter the actual fire scene.
- So we continue with the interrogation and review of building drawings to clarify the cause of the fire.
Yesterday it was stated in a press release from the Copenhagen Police that the investigation could take months.
People in the FB thread, remarked on the image that were on many videos and photos of the fire. "Fear nothing" is a slogan from Copenhagen based designer of
work boots and safety shoes, Airtox.
