I really like your translation, Noctu. I'm from Holland, so instead of gewaarzijn I would say something like bewustwording (?), but other than that it's a prayer I would recite.

I'm wondering what the spirit of the word awareness is in the source text. Is it completely synonymous with consciousness or not?

Gewaarzijn is more specific and moment-specific, focused on perceiving a specific experience in the now.
Bewustzijn is broader and encompasses the total mental landscape, including self-reflection, memory and abstract thoughts.

In my case, since the beginning of this year, since I'm fortunate enough and have the opportunity, I've been doing the "Daily Prayer" during the final stage of my trekking excursions.
Such a beautiful prayer, and I want to enjoy it in a place I've worked so hard to conquer.
