It does seem like the devotional path is a good way for some people's growth. Just because it is different than what works for some people does not mean that it is not helping others.
Not sure if this is the mode of thinking, but undiscriminated relativism ("A man's poison is another man's gold") is sometimes a logical trap. Sometimes a man's poison is also another man's poison.
