On the other hand, Ethiopia has recorded more M5+ earthquakes. In December 2022 Ethiopia recorded an M5.5 earthquake. Finally, the Owen fracture zone has recorded seismic activity this year, mainly a swarm that occurred last April.
A sequence of earthquakes occurred in the Owen fracture zone northeast of the Horn of Africa in the Arabian Sea.

Strong seismic activity in Japan. Three earthquakes of magnitude 6.2, 5.6 (aftershock) and 5.9 (North of the island) shook the island of Honshu, while a fourth quake of magnitude 5.1 hit the southeast of the island.

It is curious that yesterday DSCOVR recorded a solar wind density of 65.36 p/cm³ which is considered a very high density. This occurred at 02:25 UTC on May 10 and the earthquake occurred at 16:02 UTC almost 14 hours later

However SSGEOS issued the alert hours before the solar wind density peak and the earthquake, which may indicate that this peak could be related to another future seismic event. Frank Hoogerbeets points out May 11-15

Critical planetary geometry on 9-10 and 13-14 May can result in strong to major seismic activity, potentially reaching mid 7 magnitude, most likely around the 11th and 15th. Have an earthquake plan!
According to the fulcrum hypothesis, the impact on Tonga would have repercussions on both sides, i.e. towards South America and towards the Indonesian region.

Microseism shakes Mexico City (CDMX)

The earthquake in CDMX was of magnitude 2.3 in Magdalena Contreras at only 1 km depth! This explains the strong perception and makes me suspect that it may even have been due to causes not only natural (over exploitation of the soil, clandestine construction etc).

People on social networks mention that the earthquake felt very strong and that the quake knocked things off the furniture.

People left their homes and buildings in panic. The quake seems to have been felt further south of the city.

Curious thing is that is one of the earthquakes with epicenter at Mexico City that is registered at USGS.

And, in this days the seismic alarm went on by mistake. No wonder people are worried.

Usually, the numbers are lower at USGS, this time was the other way.

And, Mexico National Seismic had updated it to 3.0 as well.

Accelerations above 50 gal were recorded, according to the @RedSismicaRACM.

Having the epicenter under the streets of Mexico City, it is IMPOSSIBLE for the #AlertaSísmica to be activated.
 
The discovery of Russian scientists: repeated tremors after an earthquake can be caused by the effect of a round-the-world seismic echo.

Russian scientists from the Schmidt Institute of Earth Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences have made a discovery that could change our understanding of how earthquakes occur. They discovered the effect of a round-the-world seismic echo, which can lead to aftershocks after the initial earthquake. This discovery was made thanks to studies of elastic seismic waves that diverge from the earthquake source and return back after a few hours.

Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences Alexey Zavyalov, Head of the Laboratory of Seismic Hazard of the IFZ RAS, explains this effect as follows:

"When propagating over the Earth's surface, elastic seismic waves form surface seismic waves that scatter in different directions and return back to the epicenter of the earthquake after a few hours. Their amplitude is amplified, creating a cumulative effect that can cause a second push."

This effect can be dangerous, because a second push can be strong enough to destroy much that the first push did not have time to destroy. In addition, it can harm the rescue services, which have already begun to dismantle the rubble and rescue people.

Such an echo does not occur with every earthquake, but only in 40% of cases, with strong initial tremors. So far, scientists do not know why this happens only in 40% of cases and cannot identify areas where this effect occurs more often.

According to Alexey Zavyalov:

"This discovery can help us better understand how earthquakes occur and how we can protect ourselves from their consequences. However, to do this, we need to continue to conduct research and learn more about the nature of this effect."

Currently, scientists continue to study this effect and try to identify its patterns. We hope that this discovery will help us better understand the nature of earthquakes and protect ourselves from their consequences.

On Thursday afternoon, Northern California was rocked by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake, and the effects of the tremor were felt even as far away as Sacramento.

Initially, preliminary readings indicated the quake had a magnitude of 5.7, but the USGS website later updated the reading to 5.5
