No aftershocks have been recorded so far, and the earthquake occurred between the boundary of the Australian plate and the Pacific plate, possibly in the Bundi Fault Zone. We could expect responses of equal or lesser magnitude towards the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia or the Tonga and Fiji Islands region.

In fact, the region had experienced large earthquakes in the preceding hours.

M6.5 earthquake in P.N.G occurred 3 days after the Mercury-Venus-Mars planetary alignment on December 19 and 2 days after the new moon on December 20.
Starting on December 19, planetary and lunar geometries involving Mercury, Venus, and Mars will occur. On May 28, 2025 for example, this configuration occurred, and during this period, earthquakes measuring M5.8 and M5.9 were recorded. Two days later, an M6.2 earthquake was recorded south of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean.

● Earthquake forecast

According to SSGEOS, several critical lunar and planetary geometries will occur this week involving Mercury and Venus with Mars and outer planets.

●Earth, Moon, Mars on Dec 28
●Earth, Moon, Jupiter on Dec 28
...there can be a larger earthquake as a result, possibly mid to high 6 magnitude. And given the time, that could be around the 30th or the 31st of December. But we may already see this burst of strong earthquakes to higher 5, borderline 6 magnitude with and following the lunar peaks overall.

Let's wait and see
