M6.5 earthquake in P.N.G occurred 3 days after the Mercury-Venus-Mars planetary alignment on December 19 and 2 days after the new moon on December 20.​

Starting on December 19, planetary and lunar geometries involving Mercury, Venus, and Mars will occur. On May 28, 2025 for example, this configuration occurred, and during this period, earthquakes measuring M5.8 and M5.9 were recorded. Two days later, an M6.2 earthquake was recorded south of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean.

Seismic clusters continue, although most notably in the western Pacific Ocean region. The energy from the M6.5 earthquake in Papua New Guinea continues to manifest itself with earthquakes of magnitude 5.0+. (P.NG. would be the fulcrum point, and an M6.0 earthquake occurred in Taiwan, so the current seismic activity towards the region of Fiji, Tonga, and the Kermadec Islands is not unusual; in fact, another strong earthquake could occur in that region) Japan, meanwhile, continues to record aftershocks from the M7.6 earthquake.
