This activity occurred in a "seismic gap" between recent large earthquakes to the North (Kamchatka M 8.8, July 2025) and the South (Japan M 7.6, December 2025). This is a subduction zone where great earthquakes last occurred 2006-2007 (~M8.3) Frank Hoogerbeets

The typical seismic cluster has also occurred.​

We can have seismic activity well into the 6th magnitude, maybe even approaching magnitude 7 as a result of this geometry. And that could be later today, tomorrow, I would say around the 11th give or take one day.​
The next peak will occur on January 14th with Venus, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter involved and also a planetary conjunction involving Mercury, Earth & Jupiter, while the Moon was also in a conjunction with Uranus late on the 13th. By this date, the quintuple conjunction will be dissipating, so we could expect a seismic cluster typical of magnitude 5+ earthquakes.

On the 19th, there was a lunar geometry involving Venus and a critical planetary geometry involving Mars and Mercury. The next critical period will occur between January 21 and 23, mainly with lunar geometries involving Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Neptune and Saturn.

On January 26, two critical planetary geometries will occur. The first involves Mercury and Venus with Neptune, and the second involves the Sun with Mercury and Venus. Around this day, a significant seismic event could occur.

There have been 5,069 aftershocks following the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that struck San Marcos, Guerrero, on January 2. Early this morning, the National Seismological Center reported several earthquakes in the country, the largest measuring 5.0.

The Mexican Government's National Civil Protection Coordination reported that following the 5.0 magnitude earthquake recorded 29 km southeast of Crucecita, Oaxaca, no sea level variations are expected, according to the CAT bulletin issued by the Ministry of the Navy.

 
Was as usual at this early hour, well into my second cup of coffee reading the breaking news section of RT when at 4:55 am a loud sound and unusual shaking of the house came out of no where. Earthquake are not that common in my region of Canada, here is what a google search as to say.
While thousands of minor tremors occur yearly across Canada, in the Ottawa-Gatineau (Outaouais) area, you can expect to feel a small earthquake (Intensity III+) about once every three years

Well it was a 2.8 nothing to worry but there was another one on January 5 of 3 so we should be ok for the next 3 years lol.
