Looking at the last 30 days worldwide, then there were 510 earthquakes equal or greater than 4.5, of which only 12 happened in the above map area. So the pressure is allowed to build from what I gather, which will only make the big one, bigger, when it comes.

This last week has been a bit quieter with only 74 earthquakes equal or greater to 4.5 worldwide and none in the usual map area. In all there was a total of 2099 earthquakes worldwide of all sizes, of which 1785 were in the map area amounting to 85.0%. That there consistently are above 80% in the map area speaks for itself.

This last week 1 of 117 earthquakes worldwide above or equal to 4.5 fell in the map area and of all earthquakes 1720 out of 2244. This amounts to 76.6%.
I thought it would be because of the big earthquake (6.8) that happened almost 7 days ago in the Philippines and which made some aftershocks, but those aftershocks were only fairly big and only account for 38 out of the 2244. The 'culprit' seems to be 252 earthquakes in a very small circle around Puerto Rico. It just goes to show that big earthquakes also release a lot of tension and that they don't necessarily spur a lot of small earthquakes to happen. An earthquake of the size 6.8 is equal to 1000 earthquakes of 3.8 or 10000 of 2.8 in terms of energy (roughly).

Anyway here is the map of the usual area:
