(45:43) Sanctions on Russia Via Trump 2017 to 2021

NOVOSIBIRSK, December 6. /TASS/. The Industry and Trade Ministry hopes that Russia’s manufacture of steel will be roughly at last year’s level in 2024, Minister Anton Alikhanov told TASS.

"We hope that manufacture of steel will be at around last year’s level. We have seen a certain slowdown in recent months, but we hope there will be no sharp drop compared with last year, though it was a record one," he said.

According to the outlook on Russia’s social and economic development for 2025 and the planning period of 2026 and 2027 drafted by the Economic Development Ministry, the country’s pig iron production will total 54.7 mln tons in 2024 (+0.2% compared with 2023), while steel output will grow to 76.3 mln tons (+0.4% compared with 2023). Moreover, the production of finished rolled ferrous metal products will amount to 64.3 mln tons in 2024 (+0.2% in annual terms). By 2027, the production of finished rolled ferrous metal products is expected to add 7% to 68.7 mln tons. Meanwhile the production of steel pipes is projected at 13.5 mln tons in 2027 (+1.5% compared with 2023).

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia ramped up its platinum exports to the United States in October, reaching a two-year high of $203 million—almost one-third of all US platinum imports, according to Sputnik's analysis of data from the US statistical service.

This mid-autumn surge in Russian platinum exports marked a 2.3-fold increase from September and a 2.1-fold rise from the previous year. The $203 million in exports represents the largest total since October 2022, when shipments amounted to $253 million.
In October, Russian companies accounted for 31.5% of US platinum imports, marking the highest share since April 2020.

As a result, Russia was the second-largest supplier of platinum to the United States, second only to South Africa ($270 million). The top five exporters also included Germany ($51.5 million), Italy ($25.2) and Belgium ($22.3).

According to Maria Zakharova, the regime in Kiev does not think in such categories at all
MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky turned down US President-elect Donald Trump's call for a ceasefire because achieving peace in Ukraine is not a priority for Kiev, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"In a telltale sign, Zelensky's reaction to Donald Trump's call was left without notice across the ocean. Ukraine's alleged leader Zelensky, with his long-lost legitimacy, cynically rebuffed US president-elect and once again stated that he would not agree to any peace deal without a security guarantee, by which he means the country's membership in NATO," she said at a news conference. "Why is it all like this? Because peace is not a priority for the Kiev regime."

According to Zakharova, the regime in Kiev does not think in such categories at all.

"They have been taught so. By whom? The regime of [US President Joe] Biden, the White House administration has been training the Kiev regime for many years to do exactly the opposite," the diplomat said.

From Rueters on Zakharova's warning:

Russia tells its citizens: avoid travel to the West

By Dmitry Antonov and Guy Faulconbridge

  • Summary
  • Russia says avoid US, Canada, EU countries
  • Russia says US hunting down Russians
  • Kremlin: Biden is dialling up tensions ahead of Trump
MOSCOW, Dec 11 (Reuters) - Russia said on Wednesday that relations with Washington were so confrontational that Russian citizens should not visit the United States, Canada and some EU countries in coming weeks because they risked being "hunted" down by U.S. authorities."

"In the context of the increasing confrontation in Russian-American relations, which are teetering on the verge of rupture due to the fault of Washington, trips to the United States of America privately or out of official necessity are fraught with serious risks," Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told a news briefing."

From TG Channel of State Duma Deputy Andrey Lugovoy, there was, in Russian, on December 10, 2024:
Western intelligence agencies use migration to solve the problem of destabilizing Russia: they "charge" migrants, organize illegal corridors and introduce radicals.
This is the same that the Anglo-Americans with help from a ME country and others have worked to achieve in some areas of Europe. The summary continues:
We were able to effectively resist foreign agents. Now it is important not to miss the topic of illegal immigrants, who, with rewired brains and aggressive ideas, pose a threat to national security. And just like with foreign agents at the legislative level, we must create a legal framework that meets the interests of Russian citizens.

2.7 million illegal immigrants received support from the British government to enter Russia. In 2022, the Foreign Office allocated more than 225 million rubles for migration projects. Pro-British NGOs lobbied for the importation of migrants, taught "tolerance towards migration", protected terrorists, criminals and religious extremists.

The enemy's "soft power" is active in the post-Soviet space, including those aimed at creating an image of Russia as an aggressor and enemy in the eyes of potential migrants. In 2023, the collective West invested ₽ 254 billion in CIS "humanitarian projects", and in the period from 2001 to 2023, more than ₽3 trillion.

The "Russian colonialists" and the "occupation" of the CIS countries during the Soviet period is a new reality that is instilled from school. Textbooks issued with funds from foreign sponsors contradict not only historical facts, but also common sense. Thus, in the textbook on the history of Armenia for the 8th grade, the annexation of Eastern Armenia to the Russian Empire is called annexation. The number of students studying in Russian in the post—Soviet republics has halved to 690 thousand people. The most noticeable decrease is in schools in Turkmenistan, Georgia and Armenia.

We also know about the MI-6 program and the CIA's "Strategy for the decolonization of Russia", one of the tasks of which is to provoke national conflicts, up to the uprising of migrants.6 diplomats from the British Embassy who worked with the agency to create protest activity, including through migrant communities, were exposed and expelled from Russia.

This force, gathered by agents of influence, was supposed to "shoot" and become a threat to Russia's national security.
Translating from another source, there was
"Under the influence of the West, especially the British, a narrative was formed about the negative consequences of the CIS countries being part of the USSR. [...]Our country is presented as an occupier, which is not only untrue, but generally contrary to common sense.

Of course, we trust our CIS partner countries, but we should not forget about the work of Western special services. Through controlled non-governmental organizers, Western curators are doing everything to re-educate the new young generation. And migrants who come to Russia with brains rewired by the West show not just intolerance towards the local population, but sometimes aggression and cruelty.

Of course, we no longer pretend that the migration problem does not exist! We are working. And what the State Duma has done in the last quarter is, of course, striking. But what we could have done 5-10 years ago has not been done! And thank God that they showed their will here.
[...]

I must confidently tell you that especially in the Central Asian republics today the Great Game number 2 is unfolding – this is what happened in the 19th century between the Russian Empire and Britain. If we leave there, then the Anglo-Saxons will be there instead of us. They are already present there."

Some slides from the presentation.

1) The first screenshot from the slides refers to a paper published by the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe - US Helsinki Commission. As an intro, on their webpage, they say about themselves:
The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission, is an independent commission of the U.S. Federal Government. For over 45 years, the Commission has monitored compliance with the Helsinki Accords and advanced comprehensive security through promotion of human rights, democracy, and economic, environmental, and military cooperation in the 57-nation OSCE region.
The two names for the Commission explains a lot.
At the time of the signing of the accords, around 1975, the idea was to reduce tension between East and West.

There is a program of the UN to stimulated mass migration into Russia, initiated and supported by western agencies. At least that is the Russian interpretation.

Form the website the UN in Geneva in Switzerland, they write about IOM, The International Organization for Migration
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.
Looking up the German Wiki the name and purpose of the organization has changed:
Context of origin and predecessor organizations (1951 to 1989)
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) was founded in 1951 in response to the large number of internally displaced persons and war refugees in Europe after World War II. The IOM was initially a logistics agency that organized the transport of nearly a million migrants in the 1950s and has undergone several name changes since its inception. The transition from the Provisional Intergovernmental Committee for the Movement of Migrants from Europe (PICMME) in 1951 to the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration (ICEM) in 1952, to the Intergovernmental Committee for Migration (ICM) in 1980 and finally to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in 1989 reflects the evolution of IOM's mandate over its existence, by becoming the leading intergovernmental organisation in the field of migration. [1][4]

Integration into the United Nations and the present (1990 to present)
In 1992, it was granted observer status at the United Nations General Assembly
(GA resolution A/RES/47/4). [5] In September 2016, United Nations (UN) member states unanimously adopted a resolution through the General Assembly approving the agreement to transform IOM into a UN affiliated organization. [6] This agreement has strengthened relations between IOM and the United Nations and improved their ability to fulfil their respective mandates in the interests of migrants and Member States. [1] IOM coordinates the United Nations Network on Migration, which was established in 2019 and includes UNHCR, WFP and UNDP. [7]
The chaos creating of the hegemon is patched up by migration policies to stir up more chaos elsewhere. Russia would not be the only example. From their website, of IOM, there was:

Armenia, a country of 3 million, and less than 30,000 km^2, boasts hosting the largest diplomatic mission in the world, 2500 US "diplomats".

According to the speaker, Andrey Lugovoy, Kyrgystan has tried to put legislation in place, but many spheres of public life are influenced by funding from the US, the EU and the UK. Other neighboring SNG have so far done very little to oppose the intentions of the Western Governments

Russia’s divorce rate has reached unprecedented levels, with eight out of ten marriages ending in separation in 2024, according to Elena Mikhailova, an adviser to the director general of the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM). The ratio places Russia third globally for divorce rates, Mikhailova told a press conference on Wednesday.

Statistics from Rosstat have revealed a significant decline in the number of marriages. Between January and September 2024, 689,800 couples married, marking a 5% drop compared to the same period in 2023 and the lowest September figure recorded in 18 years.

Annual marriage numbers have steadily fallen over the last decade, from up to 1.3 million between 2006 and 2013 to just 945,000 in 2023.

The declining number of marriages has coincided with a reduction in birth rates. In 2023, just over 1.2 million children were born in Russia, the lowest figure since 1999 and one-third fewer than in 2014.

The downward trend has continued in 2024, with a 3.5% decrease in births in the first nine months of the year. The Russian government has expressed growing concern over these demographic trends.
This is quite alarming. Is the woke mind virus still gaining ground in Russia despite the government's strong will to embrace traditional values?

Yesterday there was an event, on the one hand traditional, on the other hand somewhat new. Previously, two events were held. One was called a "big press conference", the other was called a "Direct line with V. Putin". This year they decided to combine these two formats and call this event "The results of the year with V. Putin". The material is quite voluminous - the video lasts 4.5hours. I will provide a link to the full video and a link to the transcript. The material is in Russian. Unfortunately, I did not find it in English (we have many sources blocked).

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed with the statement that a war has been declared on the "Russian world," echoing the remarks made by the leaders of the Duma factions at a State Council meeting at the Kremlin.

"Colleagues have spoken, asserting that a war has been declared on the 'Russian world,' and I agree — it is indeed so," Putin said in his closing remarks.

Putin also agreed with Sergey Mironov, head of the "A Just Russia - For Truth" faction in the Duma, who said that "the birth rate is insufficient, because the matter concerns extinction."

Mironov earlier drew attention to the fact that the birth rate of 1.6 children per family does not ensure the reproduction of the nation, as it should exceed two for this purpose. "In the Soviet Union, the required two children per family were largely achieved through the republics that are no longer part of Russia," Putin noted.

It does not mean there will be no such risks in the future but it is very important in this regard for the financial stable to remain stable, Elvira Nabiullina said
MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Ninety-five percent of assets of the Russian banking sector are under sanctions but banks find an opportunity to work in such environment, Central Bank chief Elvira Nabiullina said at the press conference after the regulator’s Board meeting.

"I would like to remind that we have 129 banks under sanctions now; there were two times less of them a year ago. Approximately 95% of the banking sector assets are under sanctions. I should say that despite sanctions of such level, the banks remain resilient, find opportunities to work, and they coped with these challenges," Nabiullina noted.

It does not mean there will be no such risks in the future but it is very important in this regard for the financial stable to remain stable, the Central Bank chief said. "We are keeping a close eye on that and configure banking regulation to provide for that in the long run," she added.

The European Union boosted imports of Russian LNG against the backdrop of deepening tensions over pipeline supplies
  • Europe’s top buyer France imported record volumes this year
  • Russia is second largest LNG supplier to EU after US
The European Union boosted imports of Russian liquefied natural gas against the backdrop of deepening tensions over pipeline supplies that flow through Ukraine.

The bloc purchased a record amount of Russian LNG this year, according to ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. Among top byers, France has already hit its highest-ever volumes and Spain is closing in on records seen last year.

"The Bank of Russia will assess the need for a key rate increase at its upcoming meeting taking into account further lending and inflation dynamics," the regulator said
MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Russia’s Central Bank has decided to keep its key rate at 21% per annum contrary to analysts’ projections, noting though that it will assess the need of raising the rate at the next meeting.

"On December 20, 2024, the Bank of Russia Board of Directors decided to keep the key rate at 21% per annum. Monetary conditions tightened more significantly than envisaged by the October key rate decision. This is the result of the effects of factors autonomous from monetary policy," the Central Bank said in a press release following its board meeting on the key rate.

"Given the notable increase in interest rates for borrowers and the cooling of credit activity, the achieved tightness of monetary conditions creates the necessary prerequisites for resuming disinflation processes and returning inflation to the target, despite the elevated current price growth and high domestic demand," the regulator said.

Meanwhile, the balance of inflation risks over the medium-term horizon is still significantly tilted to the upside, although certain disinflationary risks have increased. "The key proinflationary risks are associated with persistently high inflation expectations and the upward deviation of the Russian economy from a balanced growth path, as well as with a deterioration in the terms of foreign trade. Disinflationary risks involve a faster slowdown in lending growth and domestic demand under the impact of tightening of monetary conditions," the press release said.

The Bank of Russia also stressed that it will assess the need for a key rate increase at its upcoming meeting "taking into account further lending and inflation dynamics."

The Russian economy grew in October-November at a rate close to that in the third quarter of 2024 according to high-frequency data, while its upward deviation from a balanced growth path remains significant, which is also evidenced by high current inflationary pressures. High domestic demand is still the main driver of growing economic activity.

That said, the cooling of credit activity has already encompassed all segments of the credit market. In turn, growth in interest rates supports a high propensity of economic agents to save. "In November, growth in retail lending nearly stopped. For the first time since the beginning of 2024, corporate lending growth decelerated significantly. The current intentions of banks to expand lending, taking into consideration, among other things, the current demand from borrowers, create the conditions for a notable cooling of lending activity in 2025," the regulator said.

According to the Bank of Russia, given the monetary policy stance and the effects of autonomous factors, as of the end of 2025, total lending growth may be close to the lower bound of the October forecast range of 8-13%.

Meanwhile, the labor market remains tight, with unemployment having once again dropped to a new historical low.
"Rising wages continue to outpace growth in labor productivity. Concurrently, demand for labor force in certain industries has been decreasing, and there has been a reallocation of employees across industries. This may indicate a slight reduction in the labor shortage. This trend is also proved by the decreasing number of vacancies," the Central Bank said.

Annual inflation in Russia will decline to 4% in 2026 and it will stay at the target further on, according to the press release.
