OIGN!

(oh I get it now)

sorry to divert the thread but if we continue in this fashion this is how our communication will look like, well perhaps I am too biased against rampant use of shorts for everything...

The short forms used on this forum come from a well established tradition dating back to the pre-WWW bulletin board dayss, heavily used by Internet forums. Surely you have, by now, come across many of them. So, it seems a little odd to be railing against them now.

Considering how much shortening is going on outside of this forum, and how the short forms used on this forum remain basically unchanged, there is little evidence to support your concerns and I am left wondering if there is any difficulties going on in your life that you might wish to bring up in the swamp?

Not really... just a personal grudge against accepting new shorts. Ones that are well established on this forum I accepted so much that I catch myself using them elsewhere to other people's confusion. AFAIK is far from being widely accepted short, at least I never encountered it before and I perhaps too hastily voiced my dislike. Was trying to point out how this situation can get out of control if we start to shorten every phrase. That's all there is to it OSIT :P

Actually I believe is it fairly common. Along with AFAIC ( As Far As I'm Concerned). I google a list that I can consult when in doubt. :)

Here's one:

Yes, AFAIK has been fairly common on the forums that I've used in the past.

Another one that was quite common, but wasn't in the list that you linked Mrs Peel, is ETA for Edited to Add. I used this a bit when I first came here but stopped when I realised that no-one else was using it. In fact I'd used it so often that I'd forgotten how to spell 'edited' and had to look it up - one 't' or two?. I guess that's one of the down sides of using acronyms.

Well, I just posted a link to the first list I came to. And to me, "ETA" means Estimated Time of Arrival!! As in, "what's your ETA?" I guess maybe it should be ETOA. :)
