Finding it difficult to smoke lately

Too many choices on hand rollers out there--anyone have recommendations for a specific type that you find works well? I know nada about hand rollers and want to get one soon...(or is electric better?) I don't want to use filters either, nor a pipe. THank you!

what about from this selection?? http://www.pipetobacco.com/page/pipet/PROD/ghpt/GHSG
The only thing I see on the page linked is tobacco. Apologies if you mentioned this already but is there any reason that you don't want to/can't use your hands? It took me a bit of practice, but I prefer it.

Actually I use roller similar to this one ->http://www.asia.ru/images/target/photo/51510922/Cigarette_Roller.jpg
It is very easy in use, plus- cheap, it costed me 12 PLN, which equals to around 3,5 euro.

I'd have to find someone to give me lessons, and that could be possible, but then it seem that I'd be forever rolling ciggies...how many do you roll at one time? How do you keep them fresh? I'm open.

It only takes a few minutes to hand roll a cigarette. If you only roll one when you need one, the tobacco will stay fresher as well. I used to roll them in a big machine that attached a filter so I'd roll a pack (20) that would last me a couple of days. By the time I smoked the last one they were beginning to dry out. It's much easier, quicker and they taste better (to me) to roll them when you want one. It's relaxing too. :)

Yeah. I roll them one at a time. I also don't think of it as a chore but enjoy it as part of the whole experience. It may take some time for you to roll them exactly the way you like, but I think it's worth it.

I have roller machine but I prefer hand rolling one at a time. Some things I found annoying with hand rolling is some tobacco shags(cuts) are not made with rolling in mind. The best cuts for rolling are long and thin; these tobaccos usually come in bags of 50grams and they are a pleasure to roll and don't make too much of a mess. Also, dried tobacco is not very pleasant in my opinion. When it starts crumbling in between your fingers, then that is super dry and a pain in the butt to roll.

OK, synchronistically the lady that I thought of to show me how to roll just happened to show up here as I was reading this thread...hmmm. Love it.
Now, one more thing--what do any of you (Andi?) here in the states, who buy tobacco to roll recommend...in the line of what you just said about long and thin cuts, bags of 50 grams, and what have you. Once I procure the tobacco I will be on my way to smoking again!

Smoking

I live in Canada and I think we are more limited here than in the States. However, Canadian tobacco is a real treat if you can find good ones.
I used to smoke and still do, Drum Original (dark blue pouch) imported form Netherlands -not the one made in the US.
Also, John Players and Son is my favorite - but if you live in the States you would need to buy them over the internet. Both are 50g pouches and cost between 15-17 can$. The drum lasts me for about 4-5 days because it is a bit wet; and the player's for 8-9 days (I'm a unusual one pack smoker).

I am aware that this two brands are not additive free, through not as many as in normal cigs.
I have no access to organic tobacco here and still can't find those NorthField cigs.

What is amazing is that a cartoon of smokes weights about 200g and lasts me for 7 days. Now, it's 50g for almost 9 days; and I get the same amount of nicotine, the rollies last as much as normal cigs do, and are 3 times smaller -so less tobacco for the same thing.

Best luck ;)

Yep, that's the one. I still can't figure how to place an order. Aren't they just selling to distributors?

I see what you mean--its hard to tell. I think I'll send off an email to some person listed and see if I get an answer to that.
I had heard that Northfield was a good cig, but hard to get. I just may end up rolling my own. Thank you for your help.

When I tried AS organic in the pouch in a pipe, I found it harsh and unpleasant.

i also found AS too be "bleh" and harsh. i stumbled across some "dual purpose" (for both ryo and pipe use) organic kentucky select pipe tobacco. i roll my own with it, and i find that it's both smooth and sweet. love it! here's a link if you're interested: http://www.rollyourown.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=90_212&products_id=736

as far as nausea, i would experience it in when i would go w/o smoking for long periods of time and then light one up. it was apparent in my first few months of smoking, but i no longer feel nauseated. i smoke maybe 3 a day but mostly just 1 or 2.

cdh4r,
I'm still looking into this...I would like your advice on this product for hand rolling cigarettes(which looks like I can get here in CO.)
Did you try this yet? http://www.pipetobacco.com/page/pipet/PROD/ghpt/GHSG
Which hand roller would you recommend? http://www.pipetobacco.com/page/pipet/PROD/ghpt/GHSG
Life got chaotic, but now I have time to look into this---miss smoking! :cool2:
thank you!!!

thank you!!!

sorry for my late reply as it's long over due! i do hope you'll find it in yourself to forgive me!!! :D by now you've probably acquainted yourself with a cigarette roller and some wonderful tobacco but i'll still give you my 2 cents for what it's worth

there are different variations of cigarette rollers such as machine rollers which are usually a hefty penny compared to your inexpensive plastic rollers (such as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uugsvZ0gEuw) that you can buy at your local "average joe" tobacco shop . i started with and have stuck with a plastic inexpensive 78 mm zig zag cigarette roller that i literally bought down the street (in a little honky tonk of a town in tenn) that cost me around 3 or 4 dollars. i say money well spent b/c it's oh so simple to use. the only thing that one has to worry about is getting the right amount of tobacco when rolling so that it's not too loose or too tight to draw from. this is more of a required feel and after multiple usage (and multiple frustrating tight and loose rolls), you'll have it down pat in no time. i promise!

tobacco, i've tried
1. american spirit organic which as you know i greatly disliked due to what i thought was too much of a bitter taste (no offense to those who like it :))
2. kentucky select organic pipe tobacco (http://www.rollyourown.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=90_212&products_id=736) which, to me, wasn't bitter at all and was smooth smooth smooth with a wee bit of a sweet taste to it (that wasn't overbearing at all) from the organic vanilla extract within.
3. Custom blend tobacco : http://www.customblends.com ... these guys carry non-additive roll your own tobacco and pipe tobacco. the only downer is, if you live outside of PA, they can't ship roll your own tobacco out of state due to PA law BUT they can ship pipe tobacco out of state! in which case, i've tried around 6 different kinds, those being: Blend U Vanilla, Blend A Vanilla Black, Blend B Danish Pastry, Blend D Chocolate, Blend J, and Blend R Buttered Rum.
my personal favorites would have to be blend J along with the Blend R Buttered Rum as they both had just the right amt of sweetness without being too dominant or too dense. Blend B Danish Pastry was in 3rd and Blend U Vanilla was 4th. they were good but i still preferred Bend J & R. the others were "dark" tobacco and i found that they were rather tooo dense and too dominant for their tastes. but everyone has their preferences and you may very well like such tobacco!

the wonderful thing about having access to all these flavors is having the choice to smoke what i'm in the mood for, maybe even blending and smoking choice flavors together.

the only downside about my tobacco choices is that i have to buy them online, which requires that damned shipping fee (BOOOO!) but you'll never quite know what you like if you don't spend the money to try different things. in my opinion, i would start off with the kentucky select organic as it is on a neutral scale as far as taste and smoothness goes, i.e., not too bitter but not too sweet; the smoke is not too dense but not too light. after trying that, deciding if you like it or not, you can venture out and perhaps buy small sample bags from custom blends of their pipe tobacco (as i'm assuming you don't live within the PA state lines in order to buy roll your own tobacco) as they aren't all that expensive.

rolling papers: i use RAW organic hemp papers (http://www.rawthentic.com/ENTER.php). i love the taste it has with the tobacco and on top of that it has no chemical bleaches or additives. just plain old organic paper. if you preside in the U.S., these websites seem to have the best prices along with ebay:
http://www.mystoresupplier.com/RAW_ORGANIC_1_1_4_ROLLING_PAPERS_24_COUNT_p/zz099.htm
http://www.rollingpaperdepot.com/RAW-Organic-Rolling-Papers
and of course, before you buy an ample supply, purchase a few single packs to see if you actually like them.

now, as far as preserving the tobacco and keeping it from drying out, i use an inexpensive gel cigar humidifier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1FgVsuAnIk). all one needs to do is let it soak in water for up to 20 minutes, then all you do is stick it in the same bag that your tobacco is in and it keeps it nice and moist. i could probably go without a month of re-soaking it but re-soaking time is only 5 or so minutes if you find you need to do so. so up keep with a gel humidifier = carefree and easy! if you have any cigar shops nearby, these should be easy to come by. if not, try ebay or tobacco websites.

there are also airtight containers on customblends' website but i've never used them, so my say on such is minimal. it's basically used to keep air out, preserving the freshness of one's tobacco.

hope i'm not too late in helping you out! if you have any other questions just ask and i promise to get back to you sooner than a month this time!!!

Not here, no problems smoking, so far I mean.
I discovered this awesome, little farm that grows and curres tobacco and have gone wild buying my own tutun, smoking, playing, writing like a fiend.

I'm getting ready to swap over to RYO this weekend hopefully. I've been smoking American Spirits store-bought for a while now but the FSC has made them almost unbearable and it dries out my mouth and throat terribly. It's just been a convenience thing for me but I've had enough and I'm tired of smoking carpet glue. Anyway, Ive seen no mention of anyone using injectors and tubes. Everyone seems to be using hand rolling methods, which I'm not opposed to but wondering if anyone has had any luck using tubes. I think Rizla makes a "chemical free" tube so I am thinking about picking some up this weekend and giving it a shot.

It's strikes me as odd that even though I live in tobacco country, in the home of RJR, local tobacco seems non-existent. I'm not sure if RJR has a clamp on most of the growing around here or what. I was hoping to come across a little farm that does some tobacco on the side but no luck so far. From what I've seen from reviews here and there on additive free tobaccos my choices are down to Kentucky Select (as mentioned), Canoe brands, and Golden Harvest. Still, being additive free doens't mean that it's grown without pesticides or other chemicals which is a bit disconcerting. Is AS the only one that is certified organic?
