Floods in Nigeria: worst flooding in decades leaves thousands trapped​

Up to one million people are believed to have been affected by devastating flooding in northeastern Nigeria.
According to the UN, as of September 10, more than 414,000 people have been hit, 37 have been injured and at least 40,000 have been killed. About XNUMX XNUMX people were registered in three camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs), which originally housed people fleeing violence. As assessments continue, the number of people affected is expected to increase.

The passage of Cyclone Boris through northeastern Italy is leaving severe flooding in the Emilia Romagna region due to overflowing rivers and during the night.
People had to be evacuated and schools will remain closed. The whole region of Emilia Romagna which was on orange alert turned to red in a few hours and was hit by heavy rains throughout the night and more than 800 people were evacuated in the area of Ravenna, another 165 in the area of Bologna and spent the night in the reception centers made available by the municipalities.
  • Around 300 – 400 mm (11.8 – 15.7 inches) of rain fell in the Emilia-Romagna Region of northern Italy in 48 hours.
  • Almost 1 000 people were forced to evacuate.
  • Helicopters had to be used to rescue people stranded in the flooded regions.

The worst part of all this is that there was very little time to evacuate. These flash floods came really quickly.

How did FOTCM members and the Caesaria property fare?

I live in eastern SC near Augusta, GA. On my three acres, we had 70 mph winds (with 90 mph gusts) Thursday night which blew down NINE 18-24" wide oak trees and snapped one off 30 feet from the base. The roots from one torn out my water supply line. Three fell across my entrance road. By Saturday afternoon, we'd cut a path for the car, and by Sunday evening, the electricity was back on (surprisingly early since we'd been told it'd be at least a week). I've got tons of cleanup to do, including removing a tree top that feel on my chicken coop, but overall, it was a good "dress rehearsal" (e.g. using my solar panels and a gas generator to power my refrigerator and freezer; utilization of emergency water supplies for cooking, dish washing, bathing; and a multitude of "little" details that revealed themselves and were duly noted)

No issues here, just a little cleanup from downed branches. There was a run on gas yesterday throughout the whole region. No cell service anywhere and it's cash only at businesses except for Wal-Mart (I've heard).

So relieved everything is ok over in Caesaria. I was just looking a pictures from Asheville. Also relieved to hear that @JGeropoulas you have fared well and were prepped well. I have cash, gas and a real water purifier but no back up power.
 
I am SO thrilled to hear you guys are OK. I was flying all day Friday and got pretty sick that night and found out on Saturday how bad things were in Asheville and have been worrying ever since with all these visuals. VERY RELIEVED!!!

If you know of organizations that you think are particularly in need that are getting the supplies to the people that need them, then please let me know. I am in California but my family members in NC are working such that we can give financially to those in need in NC. Given your proximity to the devastation, I would value your local expertise/knowledge as to who might most desperately need the help. Happy you are ok.

We’ve been getting a lot of questions on ways to help Western North Carolina recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. We encourage everyone to give to reputable organizations and donate to community supply drives sponsored by your local county governments or local charitable organizations. As many roads are still impassable in Western NC, do not collect supplies to drive to this area. Utilize established organizations that can help get these supplies to the people that need help. In times of disaster, there are many scams that try to use an individual’s strong desire to help to get them to donate to fraudulent charities. Be sure that the organization you choose to give to is one that is trusted.

It got to the point where I do not trust any organization. Both my wife an I are volunteering and helping locally.

We only got hit with the remnants of Helena here in East TN mountains, but what did the damage was (still ongoing) 12 days of continuous rain. Ground is so wet, that it takes a small gust of wind to uproot otherwise healthy tree.

Several power outages, internet outages. Giving people food and water.

This afternoon spent couple of hours at neighbor`s place clearing bushes around trees which are started to lean towards his house, so we will hopefully take them down tomorrow. Started raining again in the middle of it. No heavy machinery can get anywhere, skid steers are simply sliding off. Mess.

Whoever else got hit, it is really bad.

We have had the technology to create, control, and steer hurricanes for decades.

“Project Cirrus is the first Official attempt to modify a hurricane. It was run by General Electric with the support of the US military. The official theory was that by changing the temperature outside the eye-wall of a hurricane, which they did by seeding the clouds with various compounds such as silver iodide, a decrease in strong winds will result.

On October 13, 1947, Project Cirrus targeted a hurricane heading out to sea. Approximately 180 pounds of dry ice was dropped into the clouds. The crew then reported a "pronounced modification of the cloud deck". And the hurricane abruptly changed direction and made landfall near Savannah, Georgia. The public blamed the government.

Irving Langmuir, who pioneered General Electric’s atmospheric research department, and admired that the project was about learning how to weaponize the weather, also claimed the reversal of the hurricane had been caused by the project, but the government denied it for twelve years.

After a short delay, the project officially continued. And in 1965, Project Stormfury had targeted Hurricane Betsy for seeding. On that day the storm immediately changed direction and made landfall in Southern Florida. Congress blamed it on Project Stormfury but the government claimed that the hurricane changed direction before they ever had a chance to seed it. And after two months of Congressional hearings, the project was allowed to continue.”

Last year, the Department of Defense entered a ninety-million-dollar agreement with Albemarle Corporation to increase domestic production of lithium for the nation's battery supply chain. Specifically, from Kings Mountain, North Carolina starting by 2025.

This is the same area experiencing what is being described as biblical floods.

While the Federal government spends billions on foreign wars and illegal immigrants, they simply can not be bothered with the health and well-being of the American people. Especially those living on coveted mineral rich land.

All these people who have been devastated by the flooding are seeing how no help is coming from the government in any way. FEMA, useless. Looking at the bigger picture and how this may impact the country going forward, it has brought people together to help each other in a powerful way. They'll need to become stronger and find creative solutions at the public level knowing the government is useless. I consider what the C's have said about the necessity for people to suffer more. There is great suffering happening now and as bad as this is perhaps it will move things in a positive direction. Its another huge wake up call, this time affecting the mainland.

Citizen rescue teams have been told to leave the area in some cases. Its the same as in Maui when supplies where stopped from going in.

There is talk about all the natural resources in the area and specifically a huge deposit of lithium under the Ashville area. With the callousness of the government its being questioned if they are after the lithium.

Florida is stepping up to help. Congressman Cory Mills is one of the few good ones.
