High Dose Intravenous Vitamin C (and other vitamin infusions)

An update from Orthomolecular News:

Why Vitamin C Fights Cancer So Well
And why more and more oncologists are now using it

Commentary by Andrew W. Saul, Editor

The success of intravenous vitamin C for cancer patients is a repeatedly-demonstrated clinical reality. Here is the full, detailed Riordan IVC protocol, a free download for everyone. http://www.doctoryourself.com/RiordanIVC.pdf Do not let loved ones suffer unnecessarily from one-sided care directed exclusively by physicians educated in pharmaceutical-funded medical schools. Bring your oncologist up to speed. No more leeches; no more calomel. No more procrastination about utilizing nutritional therapy. Enough is enough! Drop this protocol on your doctor's desk and demand an IV of vitamin C now. If the doctor refuses, go over their head or sue them for denying treatment.

Cancer cells are killed by vitamin C precisely because cancer cells are different. Inside a cancer cell, vitamin C, normally an antioxidant in a healthy cell, actually acts as a pro-oxidant and kills a cancer cell. Give enough C and you can kill malignant cells almost anywhere they may try to spread or try to hide.

Pancreatic cancer

Because pancreatic cancer is notoriously difficult to stop, administering vitamin C is all the more important. Here is a free download for a paper showing clinical success with very high-dose IV vitamin C against stage 4 pancreatic cancer. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5882293/pdf/cad-29-373.pdf The senior author, Jeanne A. Drisko, MD, is a diagnostic radiology specialist and professor at the University of Kansas, Division of Integrative Medicine.

Ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer was successfully treated in two patients with very high dose vitamin C therapy. Free download of the paper at https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/0ff3/697498de73c7fc1f8483abecc193d5117079.pdf Since ovarian cancer is particularly dangerous, this finding needs to be shared far and wide. The study was done in 2003 and still a whole lot of people have not heard about it. Once again, it's the research of Jeanne Drisko, MD, and colleagues.

Vitamin C does not "interfere" with chemo

Antioxidants and other nutrients do not interfere with chemotherapy or radiation therapy and can increase survival. (Simone CB 2nd, Simone NL, Simone V, Simone CB. Altern Ther Health Med. 2007;13:22-28. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17405678 See also: Block K, Koch AC, Mead MN, Tothy PK, Newman RA, Gyllenhaal C. Impact of antioxidant supplementation on chemotherapeutic toxicity: a systematic review of the evidence from randomized controlled trials. Int J Cancer. 2008;123:1227-1239. doi: 10.1002/ijc.23754. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/ijc.23754 )

"At high concentrations, ascorbate does not interfere with chemotherapy or irradiation and may enhance efficacy in some situations . . . Meta-analyses of clinical studies involving cancer and vitamins also conclude that antioxidant supplementation does not interfere with the efficacy of chemotherapy."

No, vitamin C does not "interfere" with chemo. I'm going to hit at this again and again. Why? Because innocent patients are suffering needlessly, and that really ticks me off. One of the original urban legends about chemo interference was hatched by Sloan-Kettering back in 2008. Here's the real story. http://www.doctoryourself.com/chemovitC.html

Not only does vitamin C not interfere with chemo, the vitamin itself IS chemotherapy against cancer. Vitamin C given intravenously is selectively toxic to cancer cells. http://www.doctoryourself.com/riordan2.html And while various oral forms are very helpful adjuncts, when fighting cancer, it has to be intravenous C to get the job done right.
  • Why a cancer patient receiving conventional treatment also needs vitamin C:
  • Vitamin C reduces the side effects of chemo.
  • Vitamin C reduces the side effects of radiation.
  • Vitamin C reduces post-surgical inflammation and infection, and reduces healing time.
Cancer patients can and should take antioxidants and other nutritional supplements while undergoing radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Vitamin C and other nutrients reduce side effects, and actually improve the results with both chemo and radiation. http://www.doctoryourself.com/February2008NutritionReporter.pdf

Radiation oncologist Victor Marcial-Vega, MD always administers high dose vitamin C therapy to his cancer patients. He says, "Vitamin C has two effects. It increases the beneficial effects of radiation and chemotherapy and decreases the adverse effects. Once you start using IV vitamin C, the effect is so dramatic that it is difficult to go back to not using it." http://www.doctoryourself.com/oncologist.html

"Vitamin C increases the beneficial effects of radiation and chemotherapy and decreases the adverse effects. But this is not a subtle effect, is not 15-20%, it's a dramatic effect. Once you start using IV vitamin C, the effect is so dramatic that it is difficult to go back to not using it."

( Victor Marcial-Vega, MD En español: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbOXgG998fI )

Chemotherapy for cancer actually is effective . . . in just over 2% of the cases. (Morgan G, Ward R, Barton M. The contribution of cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adult malignancies. Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol). 2004 Dec;16(8):549-60. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15630849 )

Radiation on localized tumors fares far better. Either way, nutritional support reduces side effects of such harsh treatments. Face facts: you are going to get nowhere with an oncologist if you flatly reject what they have to offer. And most patients and their families, scared out of their wits by a cancer diagnosis, are going to listen to that oncologist and use conventional therapy. If you want the doctors to listen to you, be ready to compromise with them. Then have something to say and give them an earful. This may help: http://www.doctoryourself.com/cancer.html

"After breakfast, I visited Linus Pauling who was staying in the room next to mine. When I walked in he was busy with a hand calculator. I told him that on the basis of my fifty patients I had concluded that he and Dr. Cameron were right, that vitamin C in large doses did improve enormously the outcome of treatment for cancer."

Physicians have been successfully using vitamin C against cancer since the 1970s and 80s. Those telling you otherwise are misinformed. Twenty-two years ago it was confirmed and reconfirmed that high-dose IV vitamin C is effective against cancer. http://www.doctoryourself.com/riordan1.html How long do patients have to wait for it to be accepted as an essential, standard therapy? In Japan, it already is, says NEWSWEEK: http://www.doctoryourself.com/NewsweekSept06English.pdf

For those wanting to know precisely how vitamin C fights cancer, here you go: https://www.youtube.com/embed/04cOSwZ43II?autoplay=1 Ron Hunninghake, MD, is the presenter. The second half is more directly about intravenous vitamin C. Dr. Hunninghake is medical director of the Riordan Clinic. He has decades of experience and has supervised tens of thousands of IV vitamin C treatments. As your own life progresses, observe how many critics of vitamin C are so certain of their negative beliefs that they will never view this video.

Vitamin IVs can be arranged in virtually any hospital, anywhere in the world . . . if you push hard enough. Learn how from an attorney - who also just happens to be a board-certified cardiologist. A final note concerning intravenous vitamin C: Do not accept stories that "the hospital can't" or "the doctor can't" or that "the state won't allow it." If you hear any of this malarkey, send me the text of the policy or the law that says so. In the meantime, here is how to take the reins and get the vitamin in the veins: http://www.doctoryourself.com/strategies.html

Looking for places that make intravenous vitamin C, I found a place where they do several treatments. These are the doses: I am writing in spanish too because I am not sure if it is correct in english)

Complex B 1 ml
Vitamin C 25 ml
Magnesium Chloride (cloruro de magnesio) 8ml
Pyridoxine (piridoxina) 10 ml
Calcium Gluconate (gluconato de calcio) 2 ml
Physiological Solution 9% 500 ml.

These doses are good to start and help for Rheumatoid Artirtis? This place has already established cocktails but they also make it special for each case. I asked for the cocktail of myers and vitamin c and it was what they answered me. They do not do IV Minerals

Vitamin C 25 ml

Is this milligrams or grams? If you really meant to write "ml", do you know how many grams of vit C are in 25ml?

In your case, I would make an appointment, explain the situation, and see what they have to offer that is specific to your condition. Then here with Gaby.

This cocktail is good to start with, though I would clarify the amount of vitamin C in grams. I think that 20 grams at the most in one go would be better for a more antioxidant effect and to evaluate your tolerance. 25 grams is a killer dose which is best reserved for later after evaluating tolerance.

They might not have all the ingredients for the Myers cocktail, but what they're offering to you is good enough.

I already confirm they are 25 grams of Vitamin C. They told me they could put the amount my doctor recommended.
I will go next week to see the place and talk with the doctor there.

Hi. Today I went to the clinic where they do IV to give me more details. The doctor recommends 4 IV sessions of two different mixtures.

The first mix: Vitamin C are 15 grms

Selenium - 1ml
Pyridoxine B6 - 30 ml
Magnesium Sulfate 10% - 20 ml
Calcium Gluconate - 5 ml
Complex B - 5 ml
Vitamin C - 30 ml
Physiological solution 9% - 500 ml

Spanish.
Selenio - 1ml
Piridoxina B6 - 30 ml
Sulfato de Magnesio 10% - 20 ml
Gluconato de Calcio - 5 ml
Complejo B - 5 ml
Vitamina C - 30 ml
Solución fisiológica 9% - 500 ml

The second mixture is Myers cocktel with 2 grms of Vitamin C.
Vitamin C - 25 ml
Magnesium Chloride - 8ml
Pyridoxine - 10ml
Calcium Gluconate 2ml
Physiological Solution 9% - 500 ml

Spanish.

Vitamina C - 25 ml
Cloruro de Magnesio - 8ml
Piridoxina - 10ml
Gluconato de Calcio- 2ml
Solución Fisiológica 9% - 500 ml

He recommends adding Glutathione and DMSA.
And the process is the following:
One week: First Cocktel.
Second week: First Cocktail
Third week: Break
Four week: Second Cocktail
Five week: Second Cocktail.

Hi Claudia! I think if you get started on this therapy, you will feel better fast!

Of course, you might want to ask the doctor if he has heard anything about arthritis being caused by pathogens and would he be willing to administer the "pathogen killing dose" of IV vit C.

So far I've done about 4 IV treatments with 12-15g sodium ascorbate at home. I feel like there's been good benefits. My mind feels clearer and my body in general feels almost calmer physiologically... probably due to the antioxidant effects. I decided to look into this because to have a clinical injection is on the expensive side... normally at least $90 for 12g (my 25g was $125). Purchasing all the supplies myself a 12-15g Vit C infusion is less than $10 in consumables (assuming you buy to scale):

-butterfly needle, 21G or 23G, luer lock, sterile
-60mL syringe, luer lock, sterile
-ringer's lactate saline solution
-100% pure pharmaceutical grade sodium ascorbate powder, non-GMO
-0.2 microlitre syringe filter, luer lock, sterile

The first 3 can be obtained from most decent medical supply or midwifery supply websites. The syringe filters can be obtained at science supply websites (Fisher, VWR, etc.) The hardest part was learning how to evacuate the tubing of air properly, so that no bubbles are present in the line... although when I received it at a clinic the assistant didn't seem too concerned about a bubble less than 0.1mL in size :-/ . I'd like to move up to doing 25g infusions eventually. It requires a few more things that will increase the cost per infusion by about $10, although once I can do that it's much easier at that point to scale up to higher concentrations for fighting infections or cancers.

Interesting you have figured this out for home self-treatment applications. The naturopath here has started doing this treatment - and I've yet to schedule, however my partner has. I'll consider what you have explained.

I'd like to move up to doing 25g infusions eventually.

Just noting again what Gaby mentioned:

For anything higher than 15 grams, a glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase blood test is recommended just to make sure your red blood cells are okay with high doses of C in IV.

Appreciate the update and how best to obtain equipment.

Thanks for the reply @Voyageur. I've had a 25g infusion done at my naturepath's clinic, so I did get the appropriate G6P-dehydrogenase testing done. I also wanted to add (in case it needed to be mentioned) that it takes about an hour to do the 12-15g, since doing any more or any faster can burn the vein. I had to bring a book and do some EE during the 25g. I'd like to graduate to adding more complex mixtures, perhaps with glutathione or B vitamins or DMSA. I will be diligent and not rush things though.

For those that would like to see how you can create Liposomal Vitamin C, the dutch team has made an instructional video that can hopefully be of use!

The recipe can also be found here: Heal Thyself with Homemade Liposomal Vitamin C | The Health Matrix

Recipe

3 level tablespoons of lecithin.
1 level tablespoon of sodium ascorbate.
Dissolve the lecithin in 1 cup (240cc) of warm or cold water, preferably distilled. Let it soak for a couple of hours or so. It doesn’t have to clump, so using warm water is preferable (not hot!).

Dissolve the sodium ascorbate in 1/2 cup warm water, preferably distilled.

Pour both solutions together into the ultrasonic cleaner and mix for around 20 to 25 minutes.

A loading dose, for several months, of liposomal vitamin C is likely 2,000 mg three times a day, maintenance , 1,000 mg twice daily, increasing doses and amounts when needed.

This recipe provides 12 grams (12000 mg) of Vitamin C Ascorbate at about 70% – 90% liposomal encapsulation efficiency. It will keep at room temperature for about 3 to 4 days and refrigerated, it will keep much longer.

Recall that 6 grams of this stuff is the equivalent of 50 grams IV vitamin C. So you can take half the solution throughout the day for a day or two in case of illness. Wean off gradually throughout the days though, so no artificial drastic lack is perceived by the body.

I’ve used 3 tablespoons of sodium ascorbate with good absorption results as well. Three tablespoons instead of one tablespoon as indicated in the above recipe will yield around 16 grams of vitamin C per cup. The absorption of the liposomal variety is about 5 times the absorption of vitamin C straight, so that is approximately 80 effective grams (IV therapy). That is a very high dose indeed! You will have to take that one cup throughout the day though, I doubt you’ll tolerate drinking in one seat without having diarrhea.

For those considering high dose vitamin C perfusions, like 50-100g several times a week which is the typical anti-cancer protocol, be aware that it can be damaging to the veins. But there are ways to mitigate those damages:

perfusion
- reduce the drip speed
- reduce the hypertonicity of the solution
- perfuse 100ml of saline solution with 5 ml of actovegin (helps the veins reconstruction) right after the vitamin C perfusion

Drugs and supplements
To help the the veins to recover the following can be useful: DMSO topically along several oral drugs and supplements: pentoxifylline, serrapeptase, daflon (flavonoids), vinpocetine, OPC (oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes) and horse chestnut extracts.
Also, actovegin (intramuscular) can be a helpful molecule.

Just a note that there is a new form of diosmin discovered with better bioavailability, and there are already a several products with it on the market in some countries.
