Thank you for the explanation. I will cross check the information and add some text and some formatting too.
I checked all my entries , removed duplicate entries, formatted the text.

Re: Historical Events Database

I just sent an email out the creator or the maps of cosmic impacts from the article (below) carried on Sott asking where he got his data from and if it was from historical sources or science piecing the info together. I also asked him to point me in the direction to find the data he used. Will post here again if anything from the contact might be used for the this database.

Good idea. Seems to me that a few biggies are missing from the earliest parts of the animation.

Re: Historical Events Database

Here is the link the creator of the maps provided, which is searchable by country and you can put the entries in date order for the single country you've selected:

I selected a few countries and looked for old reports and they pointed to another database. The above database seems to have pulled some entries from this CDROM database, which might be worth checking out. It can be purchased for 370 euro for a single user (CDROM is mailed to you).

Re: Historical Events Database

Okay, I see. It is basically a record of meteorites and probably not really "impacts" as in Tunguska type things unless you saw otherwise.

Re: Historical Events Database

Yes looks like it is a record of meteorites, but I think it does contain records of sightings of meteors.

It's awfully pricey. I'll have to think about it.

Re: Historical Events Database

I just emailed the metbase contact email asking specifically about how much and what information is contained about meteor sightings, etc instead of information about the meteorites themselves. Hopefully they will provide some information to see if it is even worth considering buying before plunking down a big chunk of change.

Re: Historical Events Database

Looks like Metbase doesn't fit our needs.

From the Metbase people via email, "You are absolutely correct. There is no systematic database within MetBase for meteors, except for literature about meteors. For example, you search literature for certain keywords, but you cannot list, e.g. daytimes of meteor sightings. So, I'm afraid it's not the matching tool for your studies."

Re: Historical Events Database

Laura, if you have Hydatius in pdf, can you send it to me please? (I used a library book, and I must review some entries).

Well, I was sure I did, but I don't find it as a file or on my shelf. So, I checked amazons... sheesh! We need a copy or scan of this one. Like 500 bux!

I thought I had seen it before, but I can't find anything either (nor Bo). My library has it though, this is the one right?:

The 'Chronicle' of Hydatius and the 'Consularia Constantinopolitana' : two contemporary accounts of the final years of the Roman empire
Hydatius Lemicus 5e E. ;Burgess, R.W.
cop. 1993

Re: Historical Events Database

Yeah, that's it. I did a second file search this morning with no result. I've got some papers about Hydatius, and a couple books that refer to him (on historiography), but not the chronicle itself.

Re: Historical Events Database

Most probably this does not help you Zadig. You can download the latin text as pdf for free if you confirm private / study use.

I will get it next week and I think we will have it ready next week too :)
