How much weight did you lose after starting the low carb diet?

After Christmas holidays, I weighed myself. In total, I've lost -15 pounds (-6kgs). In other words, I've gained 15 pounds. :P (Just thought I'd chime in for those of us on the other end of the spectrum!)

:D I've lost about 5-6 kg (11-13 pounds) at the beginning and then gained about 4 kg (9 pounds) again. It's definitely easier and faster with the diet to lose weight instead of gaining.

8 kg since June.

I've lost 4 kg in this month! SO happy!!! Cutting foods with high glycemic index it the best thing you could ever do to lose weight!

I have lost about 10 pounds and a couple few inches off my waist. I am down to about 165 pounds. I think I was about 177 pounds over a year ago the last time I weight myself. My waist is now about 34 inches, I am not sure. But all my pants are to big.

I have never been 165 pounds and cant believe it. Not since I was an adolescent at least. Considering I have been as high as 230 pounds, this is really amazing. I never got on this diet just to loose weight. The weight never bothered me. It was a healthy choice.

 for the paleo lifestyle.

Im experimenting with the diet for some months now... what changed for me was more energy and eating almost nothing.
Also I noticed that my carb cravings reduced a LOT. I still have not totally eliminated carbs, but now If I eat too many carbs on one sitting I feel really sick minutes later, and totally drained for hours later.
No weight loss for me since I tend to be on the thin side. Lifiting weights plus the diet are trimming the fat out, as the body is appearing more muscular, but the weight is remaining in the same range - 78-80kg.

** Lost 5 KG in first half of 2011, but gained it all back in 2nd half of 2011 **

All with the same diet.

Of course some of that gained weight may be muscle, from the added protein, but I have measurable visceral fat, and there is no denying that. I would like very much to be near that 80kg again like I dropped to July 29, 2011!

So I am now checking if I have had too much protein since that can be changed to carbs. I did already discover that probably my portions are too large: I may have had some kind of "hunger fear". I have been experimenting with smaller portions, and I have recently found a place that sells pig fat separately so I can fry a some of that to replace some of the protein.

Also I am just starting to invent a suitable High Intensity Training program for myself to do every so often and we will have to see what benefits that brings. I like doing it so far.

I was at 190 lbs (86 kg) at my heaviest about 4 years ago. I started doing a gluten free / casien free diet and lost about 20 lbs (9 kg) over the course of about 8 months or so. Then I started the more intensive detox diet here on the forum and lost an additional 15 lbs (I remember this weight coming off very quickly). Then after going onto the Paleo Diet I think I've reached my ideal weight at 150 lbs (or 68 kg). I remember this is how much I weighed at 15 years old!

As others have said the weight loss is more of a side effect of healthy living. The periods where you feel incredible health isn't even comparable to the indulgence of eating whatever you want. It still amazes me just how powerful the body can be when given the nutrients it needs.

I went from 70 kg to 57 kg in 2 - 3 weeks; so fast my skin was baggy. Stable now and oh so much better thanks. I'm kinda short so at 70 kg I was starting to look round.

I wouldn't replace it with carbs, but rather with fat.

I think Breton meant too much protein per day / portion / meal which can be converted to glucose if it's beyond the body's need for repair and maintenance. He can correct me if I'm wrong.

And his mention of frying pig fat to replace the protein confirms what I suspect he meant, so you're both (Laura and Breton) on the same page it seems. :)

I've noticed that I'm getting muscular without any exercise on this diet. I've always been lean and never accumulated fat even in my days of eating CRAZY amounts of carbs until about 5 years ago (that's one of the reasons I ate so much carbs, besides having an enormous sweet tooth all my life, because I never got fat which would have had a chance to put the brakes on the insanity). It wasn't until I started having health issues at the age of 39 -- over 5 years ago -- that I totally changed my diet, first cutting out refined sugar completely, and other sweets, along with eating lots of organ meats, etc. after doing some research and my health problems went away in several months. This made it much easier to transition to the no to very low carb / high fat paleo diet.

Pretty much all my life, I had the kind of body that any exercise at all would make me get muscular very quickly. But, as I said, I ate insane amounts of sweets / carbs all my life too. So I'm thinking if I do any kind of exercise on this diet -- having switched to nutritional ketosis -- I think I will become REALLY muscular and in the process put on some weight (muscle weighs MUCH more than fat). I've already gained just a bit of muscle mass and increased muscle tone and definition (even more than before the diet) with no exercise so if I decide to exercise on this diet, I think I'm going to pay attention to do exercises that tend to enhance muscle tone / definition so I don't put on too much muscle mass and start looking like a body builder. :P

Oops thanks for pointing that out - I really wrote that unclear. (I need to be more careful).

What I meant by that line "since that can be changed to carbs." was "it is my understanding that the body can convert excess protein to carbs/glucose".

And yes, that has been my focus lately, to increase the fat and lower the amount of meat, as SeekinTruth pointed out.

My weight has stabilized at 155lbs, down from 220 at my heaviest. :headbanger:

It was down to 150-145, but I didn't feel very good at that weight, and it was a struggle to get it back up again, which surprised me. The last three weeks I've been eating meat and fat almost exclusively, with very little rice or veggies once or twice a week. (And I'm still drinking bacon fat in the morning, about 2T, though I've had to back off of that some until my Ox Bile comes in.)

The problem I'm having right now? Low blood pressure. Normal for me is in the 90's over 60's. Lately it goes down to 80 over 45, and I fall over and feel sick. I'm hoping the higher dose of Ox Bile, biotin, and HCI will help with fat digestion, and help keep the BP stable.

Exercise doesn't seem to help with this much, it keeps things up for a while, then I crash again.

Have you increased salt and maybe take in some potassium and use some transdermal iodine?
